Wife just made the point that we hope it doesn't scare her off from moving forward with her channel. Obviously she's just starting out and the more voices out there, the merrier. As Wally said, good on her for realizing the misstep.

Yesterday the Pennsylvania Attorney General announced charges against 4 men for preying on 19 victims of CSA, all defendants and [alleged] victims were JWs. One of the men took his life after being charged:

I'm not laughing at her, god love anyone calling out their former religion and any cult, etc.

But if that doesn't show just how far Lloyd has fallen and is nowhere near his lofty goal of being a superstar, household name, beloved anti-cult expert, and whatever else we all know he wanted.

I will bet that the neck beard probably failed to realize that an advance is just that; an advance on future royalties, not an added payment.

In other words, even if a publisher paid him a $1000 advance, he wouldn't receive any royalties until that $1000 was earned from sales (and kept by the publisher to repay the advance).

Wife even glanced at his YT channel for some reason this morning and quickly compared views over the years. She said it's definitely on a decline and esp. in the last year since all this came out (she didn't give specifics but she's very analytical so I take her word for it).

since when does a publisher give a random former JW elder an “advance”? Advances are given to celebrities or prominent people for their memoirs.

He's a legend in his own mind... and only his own mind.

Obviously he thought he was going to "blow the lid off" the Watchtower, that his memoir alone would bring down the entire religion.

I remember that little book signing he did at some tiny bookstore... god love them for hosting an event but he was obviously so excited, like people would be lined up around the block to meet him. I thought I heard that literally no one showed except some xJWs that he had asked to arrange it or something?

Anyway, his ego is what got us here to this point. Years of bullying, narcissism, arrogance, entitlement, you name it. It's no surprise that mentality eventually spilled over into his disgusting sex life.

I think it would have been more appropriate if you had started another subject on this discussion board about the GoFundMe account I started for folks to post their opinion on other than this one that never seems to end about the shenanigans of, and controversies respecting Lloyd Evans.

Barbara with all respect to your work, let's not downgrade Lloyd's behavior or question why we're continuing this thread. Lloyd admitted to frequenting prostitutes even while in Thailand, an industry (and country in particular) notorious for not just human trafficking but also child sex trafficking.

What hypocrites would we be if we worked so hard to call out how Watchtower hides CSA in their religion but didn't work to eradicate this cancer in the ex-JW community?

We're sickened by what goes on in the back rooms of the Kingdom Halls but should turn a blind eye to what must go on in the back rooms of brothels?

Shame on elders for abandoning children to abuses but ignore how Lloyd is paying pimps to provide him with women to abuse?

Sorry but I don't see Lloyd's actions as "shenanigans" and "controversies" anymore than I see WT's coverups as mere "shenanigans." We want the world to wake up to Watchtower's abuses; I imagine victims of sex trafficking want others to wake up to their abuses as well.

He's too typical of many JW men I knew when I was in and absolutely despised. I always had this idea that you work and stand on your own two feet and even have something left over to support those in need... wife always felt the same, she's always worked and had her own apartment when we met and married.

Now, imagine the two of us surrounded by unemployed and unemployable slugs who worked as little as possible, thinking they didn't need to because the new system was going to save them or they were owed a living because they were pioneers.

What's worse is when they drag their kids into it... full sympathy to anyone working hard but struggles just because it's a tough economy but of course that's not what we're talking about with JWs or this neck beard.

In that YT page, people are leaving comments patting him on the back and saying that the reporter looks so shocked at what he's telling her.

No, she shocked that she can't get a word in edgewise and that Lloyd doesn't answer her, and he's rambling on about rubbish. He's so far removed from a "conversation," just stuck in his own head.

It really betrays his narcissism, that he doesn't listen or even interact with the other person. It's about him, all the stuff in his mind that he thinks is so important, and that he must get out at all costs.

I know it's too cheap to keep comparing him to the WT but he reminds me of JWs when they're talking to people. They desperately need to share all their great knowledge about Jehovah and hellfire and paradise and why they think the trinity is wrong and yada yada yada. No one gets a word in edgewise with them, or this guy either.

No doubt another reason why his great career as an anti-cult "johnny on the spot" commentator never really took off. Who would call him up after seeing that self-absorbed, rambling nonsense?

Bear in mind, this was when the site allowed just about anyone to contribute; it's not like they edited it, reviewed it, thought it had any merit, etc. It even says above the article:

"This post was published on the now-closed HuffPost Contributor platform. Contributors control their own work and posted freely to our site. If you need to flag this entry as abusive, send us an email."

Why would a BBC interviewer read his self-published post for a quick, incidental interview like that? He really is so deluded, he thinks the outside world is just hanging on his every word.

P.S. I remember a site that was active at the time had an xJW psychologist sometimes write guest pieces and she wrote something supportive of those who favored the ban, even calling out Lloyd for "silencing" others. She made the point that, while Lloyd argued that the ban "does nothing but feed into their persecution narrative and drive them underground where the abuses can continue, only this time without any hope of intervention from the outside world," she said that being cut off from continuous indoctrination could wake up some. I think the paltry attendance after the COVID lockdowns shows which one was right, and it wasn't the fat one with a neck beard.
