The Appeal and Draw of the Watchtower
by Saved_JW inwhen i first left the watchtower organization in 2008, a flood of emotions came back to me.
betrayal, anger, resentment, deep depression from the relationships lost.
emotions seemed to guide my viewpoint of others as well.

One of the attractions to the JWs is that you are special, only you can see the truth while others are blinded. God has chosen you to reveal these " truths" to. Appeals to one's pride, and the JWs will emphasize the opposition you will get to show just how blind and deceived everyone else is. Aren't you smart. -

Critique of the lastest New World Translation?
by dontfitin inhi, i'm a long-time lurker who is still in due to family.
i'm hoping someone here can help me.. is there anywhere online that i can find a critique of the new bible revision?
one of the things that really got me was when i researched about the new world translation and found how there was no basis for adding jehovah's name in the new testament, and then other areas where they translated to accommodate their interpretation.

Hi Wonderment,
I really found your comments encouraging. I must be honest and say I am a little discouraged today, since reading through so many posts, I wonder if it really is healthy for me to carry on with all of this. So many struggling people out there and so few answers to be found. I think I have hit a low point, and am confused as to why. Just dealing with losing family for all these years is so hard and the isolation, sigh. I thought that listening to others in their struggle would aid in my own recovery to take the focus off of myself and my own problems, but I am starting to really feel worse than before. Maybe this is not the place for me.
I just finished praying this morning that Jesus is the Way and to please guide me, and you reminded me of your favourite passage, what a coincidence.

Hi Wonderment,
I appreciate your feedback. It is such a struggle to find information that you can rely on. Everything we read has to be looked at with critical thinking. I guess one reason the Watchtower has got away with deception for so long. I really have empathy for all the struggling JWs who are trying to sort it all out. Thanks again, Connie

Hi Donfitin,
I came across this today, I had not studied it for a while but thought it might be of help to you.
http://www.bible.ca/Jw-NWT.htm
under E. Examples of mistranslation within NWT in order to teach Jesus was created
There is a whole list of scriptures that have been changed in the NWT to support their doctrine.
What has really helped me are the Netbible and the Blueletterbible both online and I loved being able to see the Greek, and all the various English translations all on one page. Even being able to pull up Strong's Concordance was helpful too. But I looked at specific Scriptures used by the Watchtower Reasoning Book to support their position as I wanted to get an objective look at what the Scripture said. I also used my NWT interlinear Bible. I did not look into the trinity at all until much later. I instead chose to first prove to myself if scripture taught the Deity of Christ, and looked into John 8:58 and Ex 3:14. I set out to learn what the Bible teaches instead of trying to prove the Watchtower wrong. I also prayed a lot for guidance and every day seemed to read just the right thing at the right time, if you know what I mean.

Hi there,
There is a You tube channel by Tim Martin that specifically deals with the Trinity in relation to JW teaching. You might also find it helpful. Some of his comments helped me understand better the Orthodox Christian view of the trinity. It really is misrepresented in Watchtower literature. I also wanted to mention that Andrew Gabriel Roth discusses the Divine Name in one of his talks, that I found very informative. If you have a chance to read the Early Church Fathers writings it is good to see that they were clear that Jesus is God. Again the Watchtower misrepresents this fact in their literature, by selective quotations taken out of context. Some of these were the disciples of the Apostles. You can find their writings in the Catholic Encyclopedia on-line. There is so much information out there I found the hardest thing was sorting through it all. Have a wonderful day.

Hi there,
I don't know if you have seen any of these already.
www.watchtowerinvestigated.co.uk
The Screwed Generation YouTube channel did a review of the 2013 New World Translation
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrwchSNK6E0
I also researched the NWT using www.equip.org/ and just did a New World Translation search, lots of info there. www.forananswer.org I was able to find a list of the Bible Scholars the Watchtower quotes and what they actually said. You might also like www.doorstepbible.com which gives explanations verse by verse of JW doctrine in the footnotes and how to refute it. I have also recently been researching the Aramaic New Testament which uses a Divine Name substitute throughout the NT. You might be interested in looking at Andrew Gabriel Roth on You Tube.
Hope this is of help.

Peshitta, Aramaic New Testament
by Connie inhas anyone come across this line of research on the new testament?
i stumbled upon it today researching the divine name, and textual criticism of the nt.
it seems that the peshitta is an aramaic translation that has been handed down through the centuries without the controversies of the greek translation.

Dear The Wonder of You,
Thanks again for all the information about the Peshitta, the research is quite interesting. I am finding it is making a lot of sense. Especially when he was explaining the various texts that really seem to prove the Greek text is a translation from Aramaic. I was very intrigued by the information about the Divine Name. I guess I need time to really digest this information, but I just wanted to give you a big thank you. I had studied a little bit about the Messianic Jews but did not pay to much attention to it, and some of the Divine Name Restoration Movements seem to sound a bit cultic to me. You can't be too careful after the whole JW experience.

The mythical meaning of the “Lord’s Supper” was revealed to Paul by Christ, not by any man
by Doug Mason inthe following is from: christian beginnings, geza vermes pages 91, 92, 98.
paul inherited from his predecessors a second great cult practice, the communal meal, referred to as the breaking of the bread as well as thanksgiving or eucharist in greek.
as in the case of baptism, paul supplied a new meaning to the community meal and turned it into an imitation and repetition of the lords supper.

Hi Doug,
My research on the Last Supper showed the roots were with the rabbinical practice called Todah. The rabbi would gather his followers and break bread with them. I think I came across this in the Jewish Encyclopedia. It seemed to make sense to me as he gathered his closest followers for that final meal. I did not see it as a Cultic practice but merely descendent from its Jewish roots. I also thought that Mark was the first gospel written.
Have you read "The Lost Gospel" by Simcha Jacobovici and Barrie Wilson? They have some extraordinary ideas and theories about the religious movement that antedates that of Paul's, the Church of Mary Magdalene.

Hey Crazyguy, is that why the name, Crazyguy?
I never heard about the magnet (magnite?)before, maybe I could get by without my faith, but I went down that road for ten years, without belief in God, and it has been a long journey back. I have seen too many coincidences in my life now that science would have no explanation for, little things that have caused me to believe. So I keep plugging away with my studies. Praise the Lord. I am a Christian and love God.
You made me smile today,
Thanks.:)
