don't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.
the ms who's been given the task is a company man.
no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.

based on legal arguments that revolve around violations of several articles of the portuguese constitution, and of the law of religious freedom, a petition to the portuguese parliament has been set in motion to extinguish the legal entity that represents the jehovah's witness in portugal and remove this community from the national register of recognized religions protected by law.
the petition does not seek to ban the jehovah's witness as a whole in the country.
the petition denounces the institutional policy of shunning former members as a violation of basic human rights and psychological torture, and asks the portuguese legislators and judicial authorities to take action to stop this abuse, and suspend legal recognition to the branch office entity until the policies of shunning are changed.
Lol Diog, 2016 convention video showed parents being instructed to shun their daughter and they did so for 15 years. Video uploaded to website as well, and freely accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
Even the public was invited and those who decided to come saw that video.
The “hiding beliefs” angle fails and borders on outright lying.

The question I have is how do you go about proving “coercion”? Whether one agrees with jws or not really is not the question, because jws do inform all potential members of their beliefs. In fact, it takes maybe a year or more to get baptized — that’s plenty of time to know what’s involved, to think about it, and to accept/reject their beliefs. I’d argue that the sheer amount of people who don’t get baptized though raises by JW parents dismantles that argument. Pew polls have showed that 66 percent of people raised as JW’s leave the faith as adults.
That’s a far to low retention rate to even remotely suggest coercion.
But the again, this petition really is nothing more than a way to drum up negative media publicity, as usual. There is no real attempt here enforce laws.

Well, too bad he points a gun and shoots dead what are claimed to be good videos with his very winded, self-indulgent ramblings.
But you don’t have to eat the whole egg to tell if it’s rotten.
having listened to the two gb helpers (and cedar's interspersed commentary), i was somewhat taken aback at the comments on the widespread availability of smartphones and such at bethel.
of course, in the congregations, too.

To the OP
Thats like saying it is, in part, IBMs fault for the spread of child sex abuse because they made it easier for pedophiles to solicit children by inventing the personal computer and putting one in everyone’s home.
The absurd and intellectually lazy depths some of you stoop to so to discredit jws is amazing.

Who knows why it flopped. I won’t pretend to know. But the fact is that flopped as it relates to the teaser.
It was meant, and edited, for parody. That much was obvious. People got their laughter in and didnt bother with the actual “rebuttal” for whatever reason. Or the ones that did sit through the “rebuttal” were the same ones who clicked the trailer several times each (which will mask the actual number of unique views). Who knows.
And the fact that articles from decades ago were referenced by the speakers means the video is in line with what they’ve believed for years, generally speaking.
So there was nothing really “shocking” there — just a build up with a click-bait teaser.

First 48 hours of the “teaser” release: 100+ views.
36 hours into the actual “rebuttal”: 21,000 + views.
We call that a “box office flop”.
Probably because the teaser was intentionally misleading.

No, dubstepped — you got ticked off when I dropped the issue right into your backyard — the issue about you being just as “culty” or “controlling” if your house rules are more strick than others.
The point in that comparison was to expose the flaw in your thinking big enough to drive a tractor through.
You didn’t like being forced to think critically about what you said, so you lashed out. That is a FACT.

Well, thanks Peno for at least having the willingness to reply to the actual question.
Honestly, I absolutely agree that there are links with being told gay is wrong and depression and suicide, but then it becomes a matter of how suicide correlates religious views on homosexuality. It’s not an issue of control at that point.
But it’s simply a term that’s been loosely thrown around to scare people and strike fear into them.
But the fact is that the infantile personal attacks are a result of me forcing people to challenge their own assumptions and analyze their own thinking and conclusions, but since they don’t want to, they lash out.
