Spotlight won Best Film
by Sugar Shane induring the post-awards interview, the director said that the story is not over.
it's still ongoing.
could this have been a vieled jab at jws, and/or a hint at a spotlight part 2?

It could have been a reference to anything. -

What TV shows were forbidden in your JW household?
by Funchback inin the u.s., three's company was not allowed.
it was explained to me that it was an immoral show because a man and women lived together and no one was married.
the sister who gave this observation was a family friend and we were newbies to the religion.. at least i somehow managed to watch the benny hill show undetected..

This thread is for proof that God exists
by juandefiero inhowever, i haven't found any evidence to support that belief.. have you?
if so please, show me the evidence that god exists, and i will believe along with you.. criteria:.
(1) you must specify which god you are talking about;.

The root of the issue isn't a belief in creationism or any of the other bible stories.
When it comes down to it, it's a choice between rational, evidence based thinking vs superstition.

Evolution is a Fact #25 - Deep Time
by cofty inin the 18th century the calculations of archbishop james ussher regarding the age of the earth were still accepted without question.
according to ussher god made the earth at 6pm on the evening of saturday 22nd october 4004 b.c.. this naive certainty was to become a victim of the scottish enlightenment and the brilliant mind of james hutton.
having qualified as a medical doctor in 1749 hutton returned to the family farm in berwickshire not far from where i am typing this now.

Bryson's book 'A short history of nearly everything' has a fair amount on Hutton and geology. An interesting and entertaining read.

Some observations...
by Wonderment intheburstbubble: just as a translation is it as accurate as they say it is?
or have they played with some of the verses to suit the beliefs?
just curious... i don't know why but i find it quite sad if the nwt is so misleading to support their own beliefs.

Is there a particular reason you've started a new thread on this instead of using the existing one? -

Why Do Intelligent People Believe in God?
by cantleave inone of the most common thing thrown at atheists is - lots of intelligent people believe in god.
this darkmatter 2525's video is an excellent explanation as to why very logical people possess religious belief systems.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y201qzddzbg.

we'll never get the truth of the matter if we dismiss it because it will ' create more questions'.
How to contradict yourself in one easy sentence!
I don't have all the answers. Science doesn't have all the answers. Lots of science's answers create more questions. That is A Good Thing. I'm quiet happy to accept that we don't have all the answers yet. You're quite happy to ascribe the unknowns to God.
If you'd lived a thousand years ago you'd be out sacrificing goats so the the rain god will allow rain to feed your crops. In another thousand years people will look back on current day believers in tne same way we look on those who worshipped in ignorance a thousand years ago.

All JWs need to watch this great documentary...it may give them pause for thought.
by deanxxx ini know how hard it is to awaken people still inside the cult bubble.
there are many reasons for this, chief among them the unwillingness to read or watch anything critical of their religion.
on the other hand, jws love few things more than hearing bad stuff about other faith groups.

I think JWs have an inability to correlate anything that happens in another religion/cult with their own. They will happily watch any docs on other cults and nod satisfactorily to themselves, self confirming that they have the 'truth'. -

Anyway, like Simon said who cares what intellectual believes in God. It adds no weight to the argument.
According to a survey done (can't remember who or when) of the Royal Insitute there's a hell of a lot more don't believe than there is that believe, less than 5% iirc. And virtually no scientists in the biological fields.

My belief in intelligent design is because it's a lot more logical than spontaneous out of nothing.
Did your God spontaneously come from nothing then? If not then how did he get there? Your 'logicalness' creates a lot more questions than it answers.
