  What's your degree of anti-JWness?

  so, on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is absolutely pro-jw, 5 is neutral and 10 is youtubing nutjob apostate, where do you stand?.

  i'm probably around a 6. i have the view that jws are a nothing marginal religion.

  if i hadn't been brought up as one i doubt they would have ever entered my consciousness.. the reasons it's a 6 and not a 5 is that i have some concerns over their child baptism and safeguarding procedures, but i think it's down to them being a bit dim rather than any pro child abusing ethos.

  The reasons it's a 6 and not a 5 is that I have some concerns over their child baptism and safeguarding procedures, but I think it's down to them being a bit dim rather than any pro child abusing ethos.

  If it wasn't for that I would be entirely comfortable in my apathy and it would be a 5.

  The government can do very little in reality.

  As Ruby says, the biggest point of pressure will be public opinion. It's something the WTS need to sort from the inside out, and the more their poor safeguarding policies become known, the more pressure they will have on them to change them. Which in all honesty, I think they are doing, albeit very slowly.

  Sooner who later, when posters innocently reply to Richard Oliver's OP, he will re-enter the fray and start pin-pricking posters' replies so that he can - once again - impose his strongly pro-JW organization views. He will sprinkle a bit of "legalese" here and there and use an "I'm only asking" mantra.
  Then Fisherman will join in and posters will realize the "information-seeking" OP is just another way for these two men to further their well-exposed pro-JW organization views.

  So what if someone does have pro-JW views? Is it your job to censor them?

  My mother has pro-JW views. It's a good job I don't treat her IRL the way anyone with even remotely pro-JW views gets treated on here.

  when i was a jw, i was taught that i can never succeed in life if i leave the sect.

  now that i am no longer a member of the fold, how can i succeed in this only life i have and achieve my dreams?.

  JWs Like to Take Away Hope...

  i think the worst thing about jws is that they like to take away peoples realistic hopes for a happy life now and replace it with false hope for the future.

  tell a jw you want to go college and get a good career and they'll tell you that college is a waste of time, that you'll end up in debt or that the economy is so bad there are no jobs.

  tell a jw about how scientists have discovered a new technology that could improve millions of lives and they'll tell you that scientists and technology have "ruined the earth" and cannot be trusted.

  In the late 1950's early 1960's I was reading Eric Hoffer's The True Believer while I was pioneering 'where the need was great.' It certainly changed my perspective about remaining a loyal JW.

  The Danger of Settlements

  i was pondering the recent influx of lawsuits against wt, specifically in regards to the child abuse cases (ie.

  conti, fessler, lopez, etc).. in each of these, wt has settled for an "undisclosed" amount, assumed to be in the millions of dollars each.

  i know there are many many more cases, subject for a different thread i'm sure.. i was reading something completely unrelated a while back that mentioned the dangers of settlement agreements for a large corporation or business (not just wt).

  Richard Oliver, do you believe that they should be responsible when accusations are brought to elders and not dealt with? Once they know, do you find the Watchtower responsible?

  The problem is is there's that many variations on scenario it renders your question meaningless.

  The only situation in which the WT could share any responsibility is if an accusation is made, the elders advise the parents not to go to the police and the offender reoffends.
