Chelmsford is an Asbestos Dump
by Slidin Fast inthe dubsters in the uk are being taken for such a ride.. on one side they have prime land and property to sell in north london worth many millions of uk pounds.. on the other they have bought a contaminated site used for years of illegal dumping.
one of the main contaminants is asbestos.
it will take volunteer labour months simply to remove the toxic material.

Young idealistic people are handling this work at their own expense, wonderful!
What Cofty said. If you have evidence that this is true (you do have evidence, don't you?) then you need to inform HSE asap.

Evolution is a Fact #27 - Monkeys, Typewriters, Shakespeare, 747s etc.
by cofty inmost creationist arguments can be summarised as "complexity, complexity, complexity - therefore god".
we have all heard the illustrations about the odds of (insert favourite example) evolving, being less than 10,000 monkeys typing macbeth by pure chance.
evolution is not like that.

Landy, yes that argument is used by creationists but that does not mean it proves creation.
Sorry - I was referring to Fukitol's mini rant :D
Yes, I know irreducible complexity would be a reason to rethink evolution, but nothing of that nature has been discovered as yet. If it was, or even the hint if it, the creationists would be shouting it from the rooftops.
And here's the thing. If ever it was then the scientific establishment would learn from it and redefine the theory. That's the beauty of science - it's evidence driven.
You couldn't see religious fundamentalism doing that.

I really am confused now joining here, but it might be the best thing I ever did if what I am reading is true.
I think most of it is true but a lot of it will also be tainted by not a small amount of bitterness.
The problem is both viewpoints, the one get in your study and the one from here, will be polarised.
Ultimately you need to make your own mind up - no one else can do that for you but the fact you're having serious doubts should be an indicator for you.

Bevause you're trading in a bike you're not looking at the cost of the bike, you're looking at your cost to change - it doesn't matter if they knock some off the screen price or give you a better price for yours.
Set yourself a limit of what you'll pay to change and go and negotiate.

The Accounts Report or lack of one
by OnTheWayOut ini am pretty sure it's still the same since i stopped attending almost 10 years ago, but this is something to think about:.
at the kingdom hall, there's an accounts report.
they say they gathered in an exact amount of money for both local expenses and worldwide work and that it exactly went to these exact expenses and this amount was sent to watchtower.

xelder, thanks. That seems low. Even $20 a head would be $100000. Even a long time ago, Bakersfield should have been hauling in more. Maybe it was the free aspect that changed things. And they had the old parking scam- charge them ahead of time to park in a free lot.
They don't normally contribute per head though - they will normally contribute per family unit.
I know I certainly never contributed as a teenager :)

Is that an argument against evolution then?
If so, well done on proving the point :)

Inviting disfellowshipped to the memorial
by wannaexit ini read in a european ex jw forum that this year they are making a special effort to invite not only the inactive but also a special effort is made to invite all disfellowshipped.
.
i don't know if this as always been a common practice, or something started anew so they can boast about the numbers of attendees..

Always been the case - at least at my old cong 20 years ago - the elders used to try to contact them if possible.
