I remember that growing up - the GB were semi-divine. Respected and never heard from, spoke of in hushed tones.

no one can dispute these comments as every current and former witness is most familiar with the culture of the organization!this podcast references the experience of a sister that lived in an iron lung and her experience was used as a tool to measure the faith of jehovah’s witnesses with otherwise good health that did not live up to the daily demands of the watchtower.

Years ago, when we first stopped going, at the behest of my mother, the CO knocked at the door. My wife answered and during the conversation the CO pointed to our kids, who were small at the time, and said 'think of your children, they'll die at armageddon'.
Emotional blackmail at its finest. I won't say what my wife's reply was - it wasn't pretty :)

Question for those still attending the Kingdom Hall
by ToesUp inthis a question more out of curiosity, because we have not stepped foot in a kh in 3 years.. how is the attendance at the meetings/assemblies?
i know the answer will vary due to location.. are you (especially elders) receiving any notification or communication from bethel or co's that there is an upsurge of people that are simply disappearing or out right dis associating?.

And because they don't know anyting else. A lot of them now (I imagine) are of a 'certain age' - spent the last 40 years ias a witnes and that is their full social circle. To move away from that would be a Very Scary Thing.
I think that is one of the reasons so many witnesses struggle to change congregations.

by Quarterback inhe sure was well known, and apparently he left his wife some time ago.
his initials were m.l.. does anyone know about this?.

Certainly do. And yes he is/was. He was PO in his congregation and he ruled it as a dictatorship. All sorts of weird shit, sitting down to sing the songs rings a bell. This was late 80s. -

There was a DO in North Yorks who got DF'd years ago. Eloped with a pioneer iirc. Married the pioneer, was reinstated and became an elder again. I would imagine he's passed away by now as well. -

In Australia 1995 mass shooting by mentally ill man at Port Arthur 35 dead. Our government cracked down on gun control and people handed in illegal guns for cash and no legal charges. We had many mass shootings till then. But none since 1995.
Today is the 20th anniversary of the shootings at the school in Dunblane.
Since the gun control laws came in, shootings in scotland since 1987 are down 67%.
