  But not as alarmed as I am at how bat shit crazy many other posters have turned. It's like tuning out of JWD and into right wing corner by mistake.

  Scary isn't it. I go on other forums, particulary motorcycle forums where the conversation is a lot more combative, but even on there people are a lot less islamophobic than on here. Yes there are one or two, but the polarity seems reversed to here with one or two denouncing all muslims and the majority saying 'Hang on a minute'.

  I wonder if it's anything to do with the JW mindset. I've always viewed JWs as being black or white in their thinking, with very little propensity for empathy or seeing things from other points of view.. People on here are generally very anti-JW (where they used to be very pro-JW, black and white?) and any comment seen as vaguely pro-JW has posters stabbing at the dislike button like a spastic chimpanzee.   For all the people defending Islam, no one has ever come up with any explanation of what the actual difference is and why some are called Muslims and some are not.

  It's up to an indiviual what he believes and what religion he considers himself to be. Freedom of religion remember.

  A Muslim who doesn't agree with violence is a much a muslim, as a christian who accepts homosexuality is still a christian.

  The Muslim you think might be your nice neighbour is not really your real friend anymore than the guy at the local car dealership is your friend even though he's super friendly if you go look at cars.

  What I said is that claiming the only "good" kind of Muslim is an apostate or ex-Muslim is an attempt to stigmatise anyone who claims to be a Muslim by forcing them either to renounce the identity or by categorising them as not "good".

  The extremist Muslims are (rightly) condemmed for being extremist, and on here the Muslims who want to bring their religion up to date are condemmed as not being Muslim.

  Just been listening to an interview on Radio 4's Today progam where a Swedish law professor has been interviewed after spending the last year researching the issue. It will be on Radio 4 catch up if ayone wants to listen.
  

  Contrary to the facebooks posts by a swedish policeman that have been taken as gospel, the ethnicity and status of criminals are recorded. The crime rate amongst the immigrant community is twice as much as for the general Swedish populaton. Yes, this isn't good but it can be explained (not justified) by the socio-economic condition the immigrants live in, and yes, to a degree due to the conditions in their country of origin.

  What isn't happening in sweden is gangs of maurading islamic rapists running round causing mayhem with large no go areas.

  Incidentally, Private Eye noted that on Feb 17th, the day Trump made the statement about 'look at what just happened in Sweden last night', there were zero homicides or shootings in Sweden.

  In the US there were 128 shootings which related in 38 deaths. Time for the US to get its priorities right.

  And I'm sure there were popes of the same time period who did the same thing. It's about as relevant as anything that happened in the OT.
  

  With regard to the behaviour of immigrants, while I'm sure there will be criminals amongst them, if there were hoardes of immigrants running round Sweden raping and grabbing pussy Trump style I'm sure I would have heard about it.

  When it comes down to it humanity has a duty to provide refuge from those in fleeing in fear of their lives from a war zone. It really is as simple as that. Yes, it's going to cause social problems. Yes there are going to be criminals amonst them. There's criminals amongst every society.

  we just had a city worker come a knocking on our front door and my responce after she left was, she should go down to the local kingdom haul and give lessons.

  If the same laws and protections we enjoy in the west were applied in Muslim countries their crime statistics would be off the scale.

  That's a hell of an assumption and not my experience. I've visited a fair few Muslim countries and also am friends with someone who's ridden their bike through eastern turkey and Syria and never felt threatened. Anecdotal I realise , but still an indication.

  I realise there are countries where women's rights and the treatment of women (Iran in particular) is shocking.
