Anna, not sure what your point is?
Are you justifying shunning?
" love never fails " is the main assembly headline for this years district assemblies for the jws and what a contrived lark that is .
the jws leaders have created doctrines to which the organization's followers obeyed accordingly which have killed thousands , destroyed families and indirectly caused numerous suicides.
these men have instituted such doctrines such as refusing blood transfusions, vaccinations and organ transplants at one time, they still uphold the no blood transfusion doctrine though.

I always try and Temper my comments with the thought that "It was what I was doing for many years".
I still remember giving a 20 min local needs on how to act properly with DFed friends and family.
It was a great talk. I was very loving and understanding. Acknowledging the pain and the confliction. My sister was DFed at the time. I talked about how hard it was for us, and how Jah experienced it himself, and all the other bullshit to make it seem like it was the right thing and the best thing for the DFed person. After the meeting, every family with a DFed person came up to me to thank me. UHG :(
I look back and have many regrets at being an "exceptional" speaker. I hate that I motivated many people to be stronger in the cult. I also helped 2 people to baptism, and 2 others that regularly attend, though not baptised.
I WAS the problem for a long time, even though I was never the dogmatic, idolog, ruling class, thoughtless elder we generally get.
No matter what we did as JWs, elders or publishers, we were part of the problem during that time, and we should always remember it.
interesting interview.

Nathan DUDE! She was giving a short interview helping people understand what it was like being a JW.
She was NOT conducting a Bible Study.
There are MANY details she left out that Bible Studies would only know after weeks, months, or years of being in JW land.
Really, she should only be praised for not only leaving the cult, but being brave enough to expose her soul as well as embarrassing details about her life, all the while EXPOSING what JWs are all about.
Not many (including me) in this forum have or will be doing what she is.
the april 2019 study edition page 20 has an article on resisting wicked spirits.
it says "magic refers to practices associated with the occult, or the supernatural.
it can include curses and the casting or breaking of spells.
OMG you can't imagine the FreakOuts because I played Dungeons and Dragons in Middle and High School (late 70's early 80's).
The number of times I had to dig my Books out of the garbage.
Somehow I never killed my cat, raped a girl, worshiped satan, or turned to a life of murder and drugs?
Go figure???

I have found that in the JW world - Love fails at every level.
For me, because I stopped going to meetings, love failed on the level of long time close friendships and family.
So maybe a rewrite may be in order?

in july of 1969, i was 16 years old and was pretty excited by the prospect that the us would shortly land a man on the moon.
however, i remember, vividly and older brother at the time confidently stating that man would never walk on the moon, quoting psalms 115 - "as for the heavens, they belong to jehovah.
but the earth he has given to the sons of man.
Pale blue dot. Best thing ever written.
To bad the bible writers were not as insightful.
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.
