  I would love to post a comment to his comment, drawing attention to child abuse, the ARC, UN affiliation and much more, but I've got to sign in to comment. And the news site asks me for too much information - not comfortable with giving it at this point. If any POMOs would like to, do post your comments on my/our behalf. I'm sick and tired of seeing such comments from JWs wherever they can sneak a word in. They try to take the limelight away from the actual news and make it all about themselves.

  I had a short-term project with a computer department at one of the branches. I can't say which one because lurkers from within can track me easily. They take ages to implement something. It has to go through so many channels and there's always someone to shoot it down. The internet sucks. Nothing is free from monitoring. And new technologies are never implemented unless there's a legal need - and even then there's always some sort of spiritual twist to it. One of the worst types of people to deal with is a self-righteous, misogynistic techie.

  Chipping in to add my mite here. India has a massive problem with rape, shoving cases under the carpet and victimizing victims. Most victims hesitate to go to the police even if they are told to, because of social stigma. Add to this equation instances of elders and even circuit overseers discouraging victims from going to the police or even from getting therapy because "therapists can use sorcery on people".

  The cases I've mentioned earlier are on file at the branch office. Sadly, those papers lie dusty in a corner along with the many others that have been sidelined. In fact, the bethelite who molested the girl I wrote about - he's been assigned to serve in a sign language group in a remote part of the country. He confessed to abusing a child in the past, but that was covered up and he's not even on the list. I shudder to think what's going to happen to the many kids he comes in contact with - worse still, the deaf ones! The CO, by the way, is back and still among kids.

  The good news is that there is a group of PIMOs in India who are putting together a list of cases to present to the media. Going to the judiciary in India doesn't help as much as going to the media, and hence this move. As far as I am aware, this group is having a hard time convincing victims to testify. To begin with, there is the problem of social stigma even if you're not a JW. So if it's known that a boy or girl was abused, they become "used goods" here. The girl's life is over and the boy is labeled as being weak. In addition to this, if you're a JW, you lose your family if all are in. India has a lot of joint families and family closeness counts. Losing this can have a larger impact than it could have in more developed countries. And if your family isn't part of the congregation, you'll anyway be tormented with people saying "we told you so". India doesn't have a proper system of therapy or emotional aid for victims. A person who visits a therapist is labelled "insane" - that's probably why you've got so many crazies both in and out of the organization.

  With all of these factors against the victims, it's generally a trend to try to just bury the past, pretend it didn't happen, and move on. I'm not sure how successful the group will be, but I guess if they get at least one victim to testify, that will be a gamechanger.

  With this being said, there's been a spurt fake videos that have gone viral - these videos claim that there are child traffickers in the area. Because of these videos, there've been a number of lynchings and deaths of innocent people. This has especially happened in villages - they didn't even spare an older woman. Now since JWs go out in twos, they look pretty suspicious. And since they're urged to speak to even little children, they look even more suspicious. I believe they've come under the scanner primarily because of this. I don't think there's trafficking in India but there definitely is a lot of child abuse in the organization. I'll anyway check with a source at the local branch office and try to find out what's happening.

  I'm personally aware of cases in India that have been hidden. One was hidden for 15 years. When it came into the open, the circuit overseer who was the perpetrator was disfellowshipped. That's it.

  Another kid I know was accused of lying. Yet another was molested by her father's bible study conductor. And a person in authority told me that there are many cases that are coming out and some are especially gruesome.

  Another case was hidden for years although the family kept asking for help. One circuit overseer said that nothing could be done because there weren't two witnesses. He suggested reading of the magazines to improve her spirituality. Another circuit overseer was angry when he got to know of the abuse because it messed up his plans for the visit. Nothing was done. The kid was sent back to live with the abuser for 7 years. Much later someone who knew about the case and couldn't stay silent anymore wrote to the branch. The kid was grilled on what had happened, made to relive the ordeal to three men. The perpetrator cried a lot, which seemed to signify repentance. He was publicly reproved. And the kid was sent back to live with him till she broke free years later and moved away from home. Fastforward a few years later and the same kid becomes a regular pioneer and joins bethel. Her abuse damaged her emotionally. I've met her on a short project at bethel. She comes off as a tomboy, intelligent girl, compassionate and loving. But she's never been able to express her emotions. I've never seen her cry. Once she said that she cannot scream when attacked. A bethelite molested her on a bus and then confessed to the elders with lots of tears. He was let off because he cried a lot. She was sent out of bethel and had restrictions put on her because she didn't scream when attacked and she didn't cry to the elders. They didn't stop to think of her history. I lost contact with her after she left bethel but I heard she survived.

  There are quite a few more that have come into the open. None have been reported to the authorities.

  Funny News From My Old Congragation - Elder Fight!

  i haven't stopped laughing since i heard this.

  a pimo in my last congregation told me that an elder has been removed from his elder position.

  apparently he grabbed another elder by the throat, put him up against a wall in the back room and punched him in on the nose... during an elders meeting on thursday evening after the meeting.. the congregation were running round like headless chickens wondering what to do?

  The congregation that I grew up in had elders brawling in a open parking lot behind the kingdom hall...even while the meetings were on. This was back in the 80's. The reason? Some elders misused donations and the poor accounts servant found out about it. When he highlighted it, they beat him up, and beat up the other elders too who tried to stand up for him. My dad is now pomo. I'm still pimo, mainly for family and because I haven't had the courage to make a clean break yet. I'm a born-in, and my entire family and my husband's family are all still in. They've seen the crap within the organisation but they are sorta stuck for life. So I'm holding on until that "generation" (not the overlapping one) passes away. But yes, elder brawls are more common than are commonly known.

  The book burning has started

  don't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.

  the ms who's been given the task is a company man.

  no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.

  My parents and I have overlapping lifespans. But this does NOT mean we're of the same generation. That's the reason why we're said to have a GENERATION GAP, especially when we don't see eye to eye on stuff.

  Is it ethical to have children?

  this was a news article recently in an australian newspaper that caught my eye.. the premise was that to have a child is to inflict an extra human being onto the world and also, to inflict the world (with all its problems) onto the child.. there is a lot to say about this but from jw point of view, i have always believed it to be incredibly hypocritical that jw's have children in 'this system'.

  all my life at the meeting i heard how little time we have left, how sick the world is, how i was probably going to be persecuted and end up in a jail cell for being a jw.

  why would anyone want to become parents in this situation, particularly if they are confident there is only 'a short time left'?.

  Some of them have kids just to prove their "manliness" so that people don't think they're impotent. For others, getting kids let's them off the hook from pioneering...they can now live a marginally more "normal" life than childless couples who are constantly bombarded about doing more and more and more and more.

  this is sort of a continuation of threads on dubs and how they are conditioned to discipline their children.

  someone questioned whether the society actually encouraged dubs to whup their children.

  I remember the Watchtower magazine being used to beat up us kids at meetings. We were just 4 or 5 years old and couldn't sit still through all the boring talks. Our aunt (an annoyingly devout special pioneer) would take us out, roll up the Watchtower magazine tightly so that it resembled a rod and beat us with it. Many other parents too did the same thing. Years later it was sickening to hear them all joke about how they had literally disciplined their kids with the pages of the Watchtower. And yes I remember the song about "they are gifts from God, he says use the rod". Many adults would nudge their kids while singing. The whole thing was sickening. My elder sister got it much worse that I did. She still has wounds and scars of her beatings.
