think that’s what the WTS has in mind. They appear to trying to make it so that being disfellowshipped almost never occurs
You got it exactly
there are no serious consequences for doubting the gb.
there are no consequences for going against the direction.
we can now celebrate anything.. what will happen if you take blood, celebrate xmas and birthdays ect?.

There is no indication of any other change to the appeals process itself at all
No that is wrong. There has been a change.
The new direction says at the appeal of the person says they are repentant ie they are sorry and they won’t do it again that is enough. It will overturn anything else any other elders say.
The brother I know from Chelmsford Bethel told me there is a series of WTowers coming out about these changes and a new Elders book in the works. I think he has some info about what will be in these.
The largest change could be summed up by saying in the past it was upto what the elders thought about if they were repentant
now it’s what they say

does not actually sound like a change to the appeal process itself.
There has definitely been a change to the appeals process there is no point standing there saying there hasn’t.
Slim explained it well when he said perhaps this is the most significant change, I suggest you read his post again
The change to the appeal procedure is pretty significant. In fact maybe it’s the most significant change when you think about it. Because in the past an appeal committee was only allowed to overturn the decision if they were convinced that the original committee had been wrong about the person not being repentant at the original judicial committee. In other words it was not good enough if the person had become repentant meantime, the only function of the appeal committee was to assess whether the original judgement had been correct on the day, not to make a new judgement in light of any new expressions of repentance. In practice it has been reported that appeals very rarely overturned the original decision, and only in cases that were so clearly wrong or, more likely, damaging to the organisation in some way if processed that the circuit overseer or branch got involved to reverse the decision.
The new procedure sends out the clear message that the GB wants elders to avoid disfellowshipping people at all costs. Because now the appeal committee is allowed to reassess the repentance of the person at the second committee and, reading between the lines, encouraged to actively look for signs of repentance in order to avoid disfellowshipping, which is as different to the old appeal procedure as you could imagine.
i was really excited about all the wonderful news related to these changes.
i disassociated back in 2019 and my parents have not spoken with me since then.
my brother who never got baptized kind of serves as a liaison between me and my parents as they will not contact me directly.
This is the $64 million question.
What constitutes apostate or promoting serious sin?
these are the only two reasons that they think the scriptures apply not eating a meal or saying a greeting to.
Whats is apostate? I know many active JWs who express doubts over the GB but they are not necessarily apostates. I think you would have to be really strongly spreading anti JW news.
If someone is smoking or alcoholic are they promoting these things? Not really.

Has the appeal process changed? There has been an appeal process since at least 1980.
Yes it used to be more difficult but now it so easy.
There used to be just one meeting and if they were not repentant that’s it DF’ed. They could appeal but unlikely to go against the brothers decision.
Now after the new light it’s unlikely at the first meeting it will decided to DF. In the unlikely event it is there will be a second meeting after some time to think (basically elders will beg them to be repentant)
if the second meeting they still are not repentant then it will be announced next meeting that they will be DF’ed. but before the announcement if the person wants to appeal then all they have to do is say they want to appeal and that they are sorry and that’s it. That is all that’s needed to overturn the decision to be DF’ed.

Imagine someone being DFd for fornication, say 10 years ago, and they are now married to the person they fornicated with. Will they be reinstated right away?
The elders will contact everyone and ask if they can visit. If they say yes then the elders will go round and ask if they want to come back. If they are not Apostate or Promoting serious sin then yes they can be reinstated and someone will be assigned to have a Bible study with them.

Pete I can assure you that I am right. I am a PIMA elder and I went to the meeting where we had extra info from the CO. We also have a Bethel brother at our meeting who seems to know a lot more about the changes.
He commented that these changes mean it’s now very hard to get DF’ed in the first place and very very easy to get reinstated. Even while DF’ed JWs can still talk to you.
The consequences of this U turn are quite profound. Think about it. It is now very hard to actually get DF’ed. The elders will have to accept it if you just simply say you are sorry and won’t do it again.
This is very confusing because what if someone celebrated Xmas and every year told the elders they are sorry and won’t do it again? Under the new direction they would not be DF’ed

As well as long term DF’ed getting called on by local Elders wherever they live, they should be getting contacted by any friends or family.
Maybe friends or family will contact local congregations where the long term DFed ones now live?

Road to nowhere you don’t understand the huge U turn this new light brings.
It’s very hard to get DF’ed in the first place. It will only happen if the person actually says they are not sorry. If they say they are sorry that is enough. If elders ever think someone should be DF’ed there is now an appeals process where the person can say they are sorry and that is enough they will not be DF’ed.
If the person is DF’ed at all (extremely unlikely) it’s only for 90days and the elders will chase them begging them to be reinstated, all they have to do is say yes they are sorry and ok they will let the Elders reinstate them but don’t expect them to come to many meetings in person as they prefer zoom.
It’s totally switched to the opposite of the person begging the elders and having to jump through hoops to get reinstated.
Now the elders chase all DF’ed ones and beg them to agree to be reinstated. The elders have to jump through hoops now with this U turn.
All the long term DF’ed ones will be contacted every six months and they can basically say ok I Will agree to be reinstated if you first answer these questions and then come up with some very difficult questions every six months.
the direction is that elders contact ALL DF’ed ones in their territory every six months.
All elders have had their meeting by now going over the new direction. At my elders meeting we went over all DF’ed ones in our territory. This includes some names none of us have ever heard of. We are all going to be very busy now contacting them all every six months.
Some have moved into our territory and got called on by some publishers and they told them they used to be a JW but got DF’ed.
