As a witness, I never remotely considered that I was shielded by God from unforeseen events. Nor did I - for that matter - put my life unnecessarily in danger to preach. It might be a question of locality: belief in supernatural protection varies from one point of the earth to another.
I do know that in the publications, Jesus was repeatedly given as an example of not "tempting" God when he refused to jump to his death during Satan's temptation.
All said, this was a terrible - and probably avoidable - tragedy.

And you really believe treating this with levity is right!
Even if you believe those poor fellows were misguided by your standards, did they deserve to be kidnapped and some beheaded?
To what extent would some push their callousness, even in the face of such tragic events?

Looking After Widows and Orphans... and Spending One's "Riches"
by AGuest into the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you all have peace!.
from time to time the issue of how to fulfill the "form of worship that is acceptable to god," mentioned by james in his letter, namely, looking after widows and orphans "in their tribulation"... comes up.
given the issue of tithing, the plethora of institutionalized charity choices, and the existence of ones in need, perhaps in our own households and families... but certainly in our towns, countries... and around the world... how does one fulfill this requirement?

Shelby,
I commend you for all the hard work in here; it's a most daunting task. Please keep on posting. You may well be one of the very few reasons some people keep reading this board, notwithstanding its having been practically hijacked by intolerant atheists (not to paint all atheists the same way).
I see your posts as a ray of light in an increasingly dark place.

JW Interracial Couples
by Iamallcool ini was thinking about some interracial jw couples that chose each other because they do not have alot of choices like finding someone in their own race in the religion, i have been seeing alot more jw interracial couples lately.
have you noticed them in your area?
don't get me wrong.

There is no such thing as "inter-racial" marriage, except if/where a human being marries a non-human!
If you are not married to an extra-terrestrial or a four-legged creature or a fish or a bird or a fly or an object, you cannot claim to have an inter-racial marriage.
That is quite simple to work out.

I really thought i was going to live forever
by Aussie Oz inrandom discussion today ended up in my wife mentioning when she saw halley's comet (1986?
) and all of a sudden i had a total recall moment!.
when it came by, rather than make the effort to watch it, i flippantly said "nah, i'll see it next time!".

Is Your Life In Ruins Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness?

Not really. Being a Witness was/is not as bad as it is sometimes made out to be. Many things are/could be far worse.
Never suffered the non-college education thing and received all the support from my parents who saw excelling in school as the only way to escape the poverty trap.
I know it must have been different for many (going by experiences here narrated). But it is usually unfair to use one brush to tar all.

Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses Celebrate Thanksgiving?
by God_Delusion inhi guys,.
being a brit living abroad, i never really understood the whole thanksgiving business.. i think growing up as a jw didn't help either.
anyway, i've rid myself of those jw shackles and have decided to take an interest into the goings on over the pond, especially as my favourite place on earth is bar harbor.

The Bible makes no mention of turkey, an animal most lacking in grace.
Noah did not have turkey in the Ark. The beast must have been created by Satan after the flood.
True Christians refrain from such idolatry, akin to worshipping the golden calf.
These and other revelations will soon be communicated when the Chariot comes a-galloping.

1914 - It was the end of the world as we knew it - things got much better!
by TheStumbler ini was having a conversation with a jw relative recently i casually mentioned how much better the world is than a few centuries.
obviously the jw was incredulous.
the next day i found an email in my inbox listing a few qoutes from notable people saying how the world has gotten much worse since 1914 and that 1914 was a pivitol year.

No denying the fact! These are the best of times! Even sworn enemies make peace after just a couple days of "war" (Isreal/Hamas). Gays get married and are not stoned to death. Good muslims even drink alcohol.
Life is cool.

Job...less
by LouBelle init was about 6 weeks or so ago that i excitedly posted that i had gotten a job that i had been interviewed for.
in the weeks that have passed i have been in contact trying to find out about my paper work - i still have not gotten a letter of appointment, an offer or a contract.
i have expressed concern at their lack of professionalism but that falls on deaf ears.

Very sorry, but there is so much lack of human feeling out there. Do look elsewhere. Even if you were to hear from them eventually, would you really like to work for such a company? You deserve something better!
