  i appreciate all my friends who stop to read what i write and post.

  you help me more than you know simply by being there as a sense of 'family of friends' for me to talk to and 'share' thoughts with.i guess if i didn't have stories left to tell or people to listen, i could pack it in and join elon musk in a colony on mars.january 15, 2020. .

  which world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.everywhere you found telephone booths!

  this is from a recent article about malawi, and the caption calls the man "brother welosi mbendera".. .

  First, Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Brother Welosi is dressed quite decently in the midst of endemic poverty (probably second-hand clothing imported from wherever). He has a "beard", but a lot of that goes with age in Southern Africa. He actually looks the better for it since said "beard" matches what hair is left on his head. The sister is not wearing a hat - it's a "head scarf" commonly worn by women of all ages throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

  Please, always remember the context. More than a third of humanity only manages to scrape by and cannot afford certain "luxuries" considered nothing by those who can. There is no point mocking the poor who only happen to have been born where surviving is more a matter of luck than anything else, or lampooning a person in whose shoes we've never walked even if, in our opinion, they are in the "wrong" religion. Oh, about that "knocked out" tooth? Were he in a society with affordable medical care and had the means, Brother Welosi would most likely have had that replaced. Overall, considering his "robust" looks, he's come a long way in a country where life expectancy at birth is 50.

  What Are Your Predictions for 2020 and Beyond?

  2020 the society will continue to have financial problems with massive pay outs because of their lack of protecting their young people from a religion that harbors thousands of pedophiles.

  thus this and other religions that has an 1800's mentality will continue to lose their young people.

  with the religion's lies easily found on the internet the smart ones will continue to leave in droves.

  i attended the international convention this year (to avoid chaos in family life).

  the convention center was right on the middle of downtown st. louis.

  the cult members had to stand in line on the public sidewalk before entering the arena.

  Need Help fleeing my country

  don't be startled by the title of this thread.

  heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts.. in planning for my escape from the borg, i've come to the sad realization that the best thing for me to do considering factors like: breaking my parents and siblings hearts, lack of support groups, lack of counseling groups for cult survivors, and the prospect of finding a mate who shares my secular views on life, i've come to the realization that i need to leave my country and even my continent africa.

  i know i sound desperate, but what can a brother do when all he can do is cry out for help or die in silence.

Not only does he want to "flee" his country - but he wants a destination outside Africa, a continent of 54 countries. The likes of you give Africa a name it does not deserve.   Witnesses and a plethora of Christian sects will continue to grow in sub-saharan Africa. That's for a fact. Misery fosters belief in paradise - heaven or earth, and God knows there is great misery out there. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the worst, the witnesses would likely score far better than most in SS Africa.

  Rationalize? In your question lies the paradox. Tony is human. That's it. And in the end, all he did was buy "expensive" alcohol, given his estate. Did he fail by his own standards? Perhaps, perhaps not. His standards have been proven to shift according to circumstances.

  I hardly comment. Simon's take and other posters leaning that way is about the most balanced in this tragi-comedy. Most other posters have an axe to grind in whatever fashion they fancy. Perhaps it's catharsis, I don't know. But it feels sad.
