i don't go to church, but right now they're playing god bless america and i can hear it and it's just cool.
i like seeing the parisioners walking in and out when i drive by and seeing them fire up the huge grill on saturdays for cookouts.
just something i wanted to share this morning.
Sometimes that "smug" look is a vain attempt to combat attack. In an increasingly secular world, some folks are disconcerted when their beliefs are challenged. You see it in all sorts of people, over all sorts of issues, not just religious ones.
Hmmm, kind of like the dubs then? I think they (my churchy neighbors) put on an extra special smug face when I walk by. Perhaps it's a reaction to how I'm dressed, which is usually unacceptable by their standards it seems.
I think that proselytisation (both ways, secular or religious) has a lot of negativity attached to it. If your beliefs don't speak through your life and walk, they are unlikely to make much impact through your words...
Are you saying that's a good thing? I see people around whose looks just scream "CHURCHY" (like a dub for instance) and I instantly form an opinion and walk the other way. These are the same people who have to know in the first minute of an introduction whether or not you are Christian and make sure you know they are.
Obviously your last statement has a lot of negativity attached to it for me. Perhaps I misunderstood your meaning.

Ach, go boil yer heid
That's the skirt talkin'.
I'm sure it's lovely living near a church in Scotland, Wales or England. US churches (not ALL of them OK?) seem to be different. The people are smug, self righteous and entitled and it's annoying as hell to non-churchgoers.
I'm also quite sure if the baptists behind me had a bell, they'd have to deal with vandalism and/or a missing bell...A LOT.

You want me to tell folks how y'all are devil's spawn?
Rude.
I can't speak about the practicalities of living beside any organisation that uses its offices on such a regular basis, but I personally don't have much time for that particular church, as I wrote here:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/82694/1356861/post.ashx#1356861
All you had to say was "yeah they are crap" or something like that. Geez...posts a link...how lazy can you get?
Blondie, we get the brunt of it due to the location. The next door neighbors feel the same but don't have to deal with the parking/lawn walking issues or the solicitation of the kids for bible camp. They do rant and yell when the parking lot is cleaned at 3am and the honking/general noise making problems.
Cyg, yeah I just wanted to point out the issues one has when you live BEHIND a church. If it were just NEAR, I could probably deal with it.

Living by a church sucks.
They park in front of my house and walk across my yard.
They solicit my kids to attend their stupid bible camps.
They are loud on Tuesday nights when they have teen groups.
They are louder on Wednesday when they have Awana.
Sunday mornings (summer) the organist arrives around 7am to practice with the doors open.
Sundays in summer means they leave the doors open so we have to listen to their crappy music all day.
People use the parking lot at all hours of the night.
They sit in their cars honking horns for family members to hurry up.
Monday mornings the truck arrives to empty their dumpster. They apparently have sticky garbage because the truck bangs the dumpster about four times to get it empty. This happens between 6-8am.
They don't have bells. They are rude and self righteous.
They treat us like we are devil's spawn.
Little Toe has been there. You tell them the rest.
i hate it!
i went and did shopping tonight for two of the three kiddos and it was so bad that i could not get into the aisles with a cart.
so i set it aside and squeezed thru the way and found ...er, fought for what i needed.
I think you are right about the laptop. I'm sure by next year the teachers are going to require ink cartridges or something.
Don't get me started on the baby wipes, kleenex and hand sanitizer. The list is endless and I'm having them re-use the stupid stuff like scissors, pencil boxes and pencil pouches. Otherwise, the stuff ends up filling up closets after awhile.
Bugs me when I buy nice stuff for them and it all goes into a general supply pile for the class where my kids end up using the crap crayons Richie's mom buys and Richie's using the Crayolas.
$5.67? That's sweet. I'm sure I won't ever get off that easy.

Wow, already back? We just got summer a few weeks ago.
We just chatted with Rhys and Zoe's first grade teacher after a run (me) and bike ride (kids) on a trail behind the school. It's so exciting when the teachers are back getting ready. I have to put everything on hold for the summer and the work piles up. I look forward to catching up.
My kids start on Sept 6 and are out around June 22.

People never cease to amaze me.
I was shocked when I had to buy school supplies a couple years ago. It's so expensive! This year I went to Officemax. There were maybe three other people buying school supplies there at the time. They had crayons for 9 cents and colored pencils for 39cents. With the massive lists of things to buy my total still came to over $60.
I still haven't bought lunch boxes and Zoe needs a new backpack. That should be good for another $50. Rhys needs a flash drive this year. Geez, he's in third grade!
You Texans go back soon don't you? We have to wait until September 6.
today we went on a hike to summit lake just outside mt.
rainier national park.
i wanted to share some of the pictures, its so gorgeous up there!.
WOW Sherry, those are some beautiful pics! What a gorgeous hike.
Steve rode the RAMROD (Ride Around Mt Rainier in One Day) two weeks ago. I sat in Enumclaw at the finish line reading my book and occasionally staring at the mountain. Can you ever get enough of it.
I totally wanted to move there and then I slapped myself up alongside the head. It's Enumclaw for God's sake.
You guys up for some fishing soon? We went last week but nothing. Going again in two weeks and then probably most weekends in September.

.
do you shop at wally world?
i can spend over $100.00 on little items, man shopping at wally world is the devil on my checkbook.
Hey Princess or other Washingtonian, has Wal-Mart expanded beyond Renton since I Iast visited? I couldn't believe how late it was coming to the Puget Sound area.
Yep. One in Lynnwood, just off I-5. SuperWal-Mart in Marysville...just off I-5. Also one in Chehalis about 100 miles south of Seattle also on I-5. Those are the only ones I know about. I happily avoid all of them.
