what's with the recent spate of folks saying goodbye, or giving swansongs?.
this is a webboard.
people come and people go.
Apparently one poster though my ass should be flatter. Thanks though.
Hey Mega! Went great. I am so proud of Joy! She rode 100 miles the first day. She is not used to the hills here in the Pacific NW, but she made her way to the top of every one of them! We finally rolled across the finish line Sunday at about 5:30 after two long days of riding.
Weather was perfect! 70s and cloudy the first day and 80s and clear the second day. 203 miles and lots and lots of hills, along with 8,998 other bikers!
Sad we missed your sister at the finish but understandable for sure!

I'm still here but haven't posted lately, but I do visit this site on a daily basis to keep up to date.calamity jane "of the nobody misses me anyway class"
Me too. It makes me wonder how many of us are still around, reading silently. I feel the same about the "nobody misses me anyway" thing. I could write a lovely goodbye post and have it disappear to the back pages in minutes.
Princess who?
Been edited more times than Ross and have had more than one thread deleted, even had one poster wish me get my ass run over whilst riding my bike. Not that it's a good thing...
hello all.. ok i'm wondering if anyone here has ever had to deal with alopecia which is bascially loss of hair.. the reason i ask is because we have noticed that our 6 year old daughter's hair seems much thinner.
at first we thought it was just because she was getting ahold of the scissors and giving herself a trim.
but we are both (her dad and i) noticing that it seems like its just plain thin and that there is hair in her bed in the morning when she gets up.. i just noticed when she got out of the bath that it seems thinner at the root area.
Trichotillomania is obsessive hair pulling. It's an anxiety disorder. My son has it. Started with a bald patch on his head (he has let it grow back) then moved to pulling out all his eyelashes (has let them grow back) and now he has no eyebrows. We've been to the doctor and are moving forward in the referral system. <sigh> It's a long process.
my mum was just telling me today how 'good' my cousin is as she got to the assembly with her four kids, even though one of them is poorly with chicken pox!.
wouldn't you call that just being plain stupid?!.
me, i'm reduced to just smiling politely and remembering when i would have been that stupid!
So there is no easy answer, however READ READ READ and not info from fear-mongers, either.
I agree, but I think reading both sides is a good idea. The fear mongers are fun to read.
I was at the doctor with my infant son for a round of vaccines. The nurse gave me the polio consent form and left the room to prepare the vaccine. I read it and realized I absolutely did NOT want my baby to have it. She came back and I told her I changed my mind. She totally freaked out, told me she'd have to throw out the vaccine now, it was wasted, blah blah blah. I just stood my ground and refused, then I went home and did some research and decided he could wait until he was older to get his vaccinations. (She was gone by the next visit to the doc)
My kids are super healthy. At ages 8 and 9 they've only been on antibiotics once or twice.

I had chickenpox twice as a child. When I was twelve, I spent the weekend with a friend who had a cold sore on her mouth. Two weeks later I came down with shingles. It was the most excrutiating illness I've ever had, still have a patch of nerve damaged skin on my back from it 24 years later. Two weeks after my shingles, my best friend came down with the worst case of chickenpox. You never know how that disease is going to show itself.
Despite that experience, I have chosen NOT to vaccine my kids against chickenpox. I know several people who have had their kids vaccinated and they get it anyway. I feel it's too new to really know what the far reaching effects of the vaccine are. I'm not comfortable with it and my doctor is very well aware of this.
I refused to vaccinate my kids until they were two. I worry about the effects of those vaccines on a tiny body. Neither had any complications other than freaking out a few people, especially the nurse at their doctor's office. I flat out refused the oral polio for the reasons JimTX described and my doctor actually told me I was right to refuse it. He gave them two injections of the vaccine (IPV) over the next couple of years and then explained they had enough immunity (after the IPV) to handle the oral vaccine (OPV). I understand that is the way the vaccine is done routinely now.
Taking a sick child anywhere is cruel. Exposing thousands of people to a contagious disease is unconscionable.

.

because i love running and i am going to start training for the durango double.
it's in colorado (durango) on october 6 + 7. .
it is a 50k (~30 mi) trail run on saturday followed by a road marathon (26 mi) on sunday...
I run frequently. I have run two full marathons and many half marathons. I like 5K's and 10K's too, but they are over so fast! Right now I'm focusing on cycling since I have a two day, 206 mile ride next month. I can't completely give up running though, so I try to run five miles at least two or three times a week. After my bike ride I'm switching gears to triathlon training for a couple in August and a couple in September, then I switch back to running and training for the Seattle Marathon in November.
My advice is to find a good sports drink and most importantly, a good recovery drink. Since your events are back to back, you need a good recovery drink so you can feel fresh for that marathon on day two. I recommend Endurox. I take it after every big ride or long run and usually feel fine the next day. No residual soreness in the legs. It's important to learn how to properly re-fuel after training.
I train on the bike and on any run over 8 miles with a Camelback full of sports drink. I prefer E-fuel from www.cranksports.com. I don't drink it full strength (personal preference) but my husband does. It tastes good and is easy to mix. It comes in single packets, it's a gel and you just dump it in the water. They make excellent gu-shots too called E-gel. I find the hardest part of running long distances is not staying well hydrated. If I fill my Camelback with a packet of E-fuel and 32 ounces of water, I can run much easier and farther.

so, on tuesday afternoon i am driving in downtown austin.
there was this car in front of me that must have been lost and was completely stopped.
i decided i did not want to keep waiting behind him.
Princess, since Chris' reply to you was on this thread, perhaps your reply to him should have been public also. (Yes, I did see your PM.)Nina
It seems to me his comment was also unkind. I apologized for lumping him together with the others. Since he didn't even bother to acknowledge my PM, I'm pretty much through discussing this with either of you.

Until Princess apologizes to Loruhamah I won't retract my statement that I hope she gets her sorry *** run over. How she could construe that to mean that I hope she gets killed, I will never know.
It wasn't really a stretch. Cyclists frequently die when they are run over by a motor vehicle. I didn't realize you only wanted me injured...that's way nicer. Thank you!
Princess, I would like to appeal to you to apologize for your explosive language at Loruhamah. I am sure you know that your remarks were not kind.
"Explosive language"!! That's funny. She said she was intentionally going to run someone over and I agreed she probably was an F-ing bitch for saying that.
Kind? Nope. That kind of behavior doesn't inspire kindness in me.
