My hubby and I have come very close to being flat broke and at risk of losing our home. We both work in the construction industry and its sucked in our area for the last several years. I came face to face with how easy it would be to become homeless through no fault of our own. We've been lucky to keep our jobs when so many others have lost theirs.
I'm surprised you didn't see any JWs working the homeless camps. They're great at the whole 'keep warm and well fed' routine.

Judge sanctions WTS - $4k per day penalty for not producing sex abuse documents
by Simon injudge sanctions jehovah's witnesses.
imposes $4000-a-day penalty for not producing documents in sex-abuse case.
by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.

$4k per day doesn't seem like much, (and it really isn't) but if the WT keeps this crap up, the sanctions and fines can end up being much higher. This is just a warning shot on the court's part. Courts don't take well to having their orders ignored.

How will BREXIT affect Watchtower's interpretation of Daniel's prophecies?
by truthseeker innow that the uk has voted to leave the eu i wonder how this will impact watchtower's thinking about the end times prophecies in daniel and revelation?.
will trump win the presidency, and if so, will he and whoever is in charge of the uk form a new anglo-american power?
what about the ten kings ruling in the time of the end?.

If the WT is wise, it won't prophesy anything at all. They've had too many prophecies blow up in their faces.

Jehovah protects his people. Did he ever protect you?
by TimeBandit inhello forum.
i started this topic because i had been thinking recently about a story that i had heard many times in different congregations over the years.
kind of a jw urban legend if you will.

Big fat nope. Everything good I have in my life is because I worked for it. Everything bad is just a case of crap happens and sometimes it's going to happen to me. Doesn't mean I like it, but that's life.

List of "pagan" things JW's allow
by problemaddict 2 inwhat i'm looking for specifically is things that are "pagan" in the sense they predate christianity (or i guess judiasm to cover the ole mosaic code), that jw's allow or do.
the ones that come to mind are below.. rings - rings seem to originate in egypt.
for wedding ceremonies it became a symbol of "ownership" in rome.. pinatas - looks like possibly it originated in china as a part of the new year and a request for luck, and catholics later turned it into a beating of temptation type thing.. anything else?.

Disturbing. Very disturbing. I can remember being told we couldn't have worldly friends in school and that we should limit contact with non-drone family members, but I don't remember it being this bad. This is a whole new level of paranoia.

Cart "Witnessing"
by Funchback inbesides being a waste of time for those doing it, and being an easy way for the society to inflate its reports of time spent in the ministry, cart witnessing is also taking up space.
i live in a hot city in brazil.
today, the jws decided to set up their cart in the shady spot of the bus stop, where people going to work have to wait for the bus.. ugh!.

Funchback- the local JWs had a booth at last year's fair. It was a pretty sorry display. A table and display stand with some mags and tracts and a screen behind it playing some dumb video with sound you couldn't hear. The JWs on booth duty just sat in the back, not talking to anyone but each other. I only saw one lady go up to the booth, pick up a mag, realize what it was, toss it down and walk away fast.

Sin Inherited Humankind
by looter inso jws believe all humans have faults, problems, birth pangs, etc., because we all inherited sin from the original human being adam.
like i would like this to make since but why would jehovah do this to future humans who have done nothing wrong at all?
i think of it like if a parent has one child and that child really disobeyed her before then when the parent has a second child, she punishes that child because of what her first did.

The Adam and Eve story is just a myth made up to explain why humans suffer, age, and die. Don't try to find any sense in it. There isn't any.
