Very catchy song. I love the video's ending. Kevin ditches it all, steals daddy's car and takes off to start a new life. It's what I daydreamed about standing at doors.

Am i reading this right...? The preaching work is done??
by Nobodyspecial inim sorry if this has been addressed, i have not seen any topics on this yet.. the wt for today seems to state, quiet plainly, that preaching work is done.
para 14,15 the question asks:.
"what proves that jehovahs witnesses have fulfilled jesus' prophecy with regard to the scope of the work?".

Exactly right, Outlaw. How can they, poor things, when the official line changes every couple years and gets more outlandish every time.

At a regional convention today....
by Nobodyspecial init really stands out to me just how phoney the bonds of forced brotherhood are.
the smiles are paper thin when they see each other in hotels.
the laughs forced.

Have you ever noticed its a bit like dealing with reptiles? Their mouths smile but their eyes are so cold.
The very last time a pair of elders showed up at my door to 'show concern' for me was three? maybe four? years ago. Been so long I can't remember. They came by because they wanted to discuss my skepticism about the Bible as divine revelation. That conversation had taken place two years, TWO YEARS! before. Such love. Such concern for a long ago strayed sheep. After I told them no, I don't believe in the Bible, instead of trying to reason with me, they spent half an hour talking with my non-JW hubby. Probably trying to get my 'husbandly owner' converted so he'd drag me back in. The whole time I never felt that those elders, men I've known practically my entire life, had any sincere interest in me.

I can't give you statistics, but I can give you a few examples from my old hall. One elder's wife suffered a nervous breakdown. Another elder's daughter attempted suicide and was hospitalized for several days. There was a middle-aged 'sister' with mental illness, not sure which. My former best friend was diagnosed as bipolar. My mother suffered bouts of depression when I was growing up. I began having suicidal thoughts and depression beginning when I 13. There were probably others but these are just the ones I know of. That's six people out of a congregation of just over a hundred.

"Honor thy father and thy mother, that it may go well with thee." I have no respect for anyone who lets their own blood be in need while they go off and 'serve Jehovah'. If there is a god, wouldn't that god want his/her/its followers to take care of their families first? And its not a good advertisement when outsiders see believers shirking their Christian duty to their needy elderly parents.

Is it persecution or just a poor decision?
by ctrwtf injust been thinking about the "persecution" video where the modern day "job" loses everything.
here's an alternative narrative.. instead of turning down the salary job in the next town over, our hero takes the job even though it's a tough commute.
he is still able to contribute in a meaningful way to his "ministry.

You'll notice they never offer follow ups to the 'experiences'. Guy quits his job because his boss wouldn't let him have a day off for the convention? He's praised for quitting but you never hear that Jehovah never blessed his lack-witted decision. Instead, he was unemployed until his benefits ran out, then took a much lower paying job stocking supermarket shelves at night. And he's going to lose this job too because the managers won't give him the day off for the convention because he hasn't worked long enough for vacation time. Guy's wife had to stop pioneering so she could get a job and keep a roof over her kids' heads and food in their bellies.

This thread was such a bummer! I was hoping that they accidentally played porn on the big screen at the convention.

Judge sanctions WTS - $4k per day penalty for not producing sex abuse documents
by Simon injudge sanctions jehovah's witnesses.
imposes $4000-a-day penalty for not producing documents in sex-abuse case.
by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.

It's not just the JWs. The Catholic Church isn't finding a lot of love from courts these days when it comes to child rape cases. Society in general is far more aware than when I was growing up and a lot less likely to ignore abuse when it becomes known. The JWs should pay attention to what's been happening to its old archenemy and learn from it. You make no friends in the courts or on the streets when you try to deny, cover up, and protect child rapists.
