OK! They aren't sure. So what? It is unfair to occlude their sacrifice with questions about "exact" numbers. If only one person died it was still horrible. But it was at least hundreds more than 1 person. These people refused to be made into herd animals by Nazi thugs. They died because they refused to kill others. On the other hand the imprisonment of JWs in the USA and other countries because of their doctrinal confusion over alternative service can be placed at the feet of the Watchtower hierarchy.

If Adam did not sin, would humans have lived forever on earth?
by jwfacts inthe new testament talks consistently of a heavenly hope, not an earthly one and the idea that humans are to live forever on earth is not supported scripturally at all.. however, what would have happened if adam and eve had not sinned.
the watchtower likes to make the point that it is only sin that caused adam and eve to die.
romans 5:12 that is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.. what do christians believe regarding this scripture?

The idea of everlasting life is egotistical. None of us are so special or unique that there isn't another flesh module that could easily fill our space. Life wants to keep going. That's why the earth is filled with living organisms. Slap an extra layer of cortex on the brain so a living organism can abstract qualities and you idealize life's struggle to continue to the level of "everlasting". The New World Translation avoids the word "everlasting" and uses "time indefinite". I think that's a good translation because it makes sense. Even more sense than the Watchtower realizes. I would be content with living in a world without war. That would be sufficient paradise for me.

BTShips:
This essay is so far from accomplishing the task it sets out to accomplish....
But then again maybe not. It is clearly meant for the ears of doubting Christians.
There isn't a premise in the whole thing that will persuade an atheist to become a believer.
Why don't you give your rebuttal to the serious challenges against this "eloquent" essay instead of taking offense at eclipse's "offensive" comment.
You have posted a lot of cut and paste stuff that appears to impress YOU.
You fall for ear tickling. Get a book on logical fallacies and read it when you use the toilet.

The Steps Between JWism and Atheism
by compound complex ingreetings, friends:.
i recently put up a thread entitled "when can i comment?
" new to the thought process of critical thinking, i have felt overwhelmed by the wealth of information now available to a mind opened up to society-banned material.

With me has taken a long time. I don't jump around a lot in my thinking. First I try to tuck point the foundation. Then I knock out the loose bricks. Now when I look back I see that I have completely rebuilt the whole house.

Disturbing news regarding Arctic Melting.
by sweetstuff ini know, i know, someone is going to say, there is no proof that global warming is real, or that its man-made.

There are winners and losers in climate change. Russia is looking forward to an ice free shipping lane at the top of the world. All the countries on the arctic rim are anxious to exploit the natural resources there.

God and Evolution
by BurnTheShips induring the second half of the nineteenth century, it became common to speak of a war between science and religion.
but over the course of the twentieth century, that hostility gradually subsided.
science should not try to become religion, nor should religion seek to take the place of science.

The ball is in "God's" court. So far he hasn't hit it back. This makes for a boring game. Atheists win by default.

When I was in school 1950's & 1960's teachers were allowed to paddle the kids.
My JW dad told my teachers that they are welcome to use me as an example if I get out of line.
So - I got several paddle spankings in front of my grammar school classes.
I hated it - but I think it made me develop some coping mechanisms to get around my ADD.
I would do a little homework. Then reward myself with play time. Do a little more homework.
Then reward myself.
But in those days play time usually meant playing outside or listening to a radio show (didn't have TV until I was about 12).
I don't think I would have been able to cope if I was surrounded with Cable TV, MP3's, Video Games, DVD's and the internet.
I think the use of Ritalin for school behavior is a substitute for the paddle. I don't like either but actually think the paddle was a more realistic inducement to self-control. It was a reminder that REALITY can hurt. -

I have had this problem all my life. I have a child that also has it. Since people with ADHD have a problem fitting into organizations do you think it may be one of the reasons why you just couldn't take the JW's any more. Initially, I think JW's attracted people who had ADHD. Because it was a new organization it caught the wandering attention of the Searching ADHD. But as the organization has matured it has become more regimented and stiff. When ADHD people are driven out that leaves a lot of really, really, boring people. Do you think that explains anything?

"Conservative talk show radio host"
I can't think of a lower level occupation. Yes, I would rather host a show like Jerry Springer's.
Conservative talk shows are like "professional" wrestling. Fake. Phony.
Serious defenders of liberal thinking are completely screened out of those shows.
You have to make the phone screener think you are about to place a big juicy kiss on the host's anus before they will let you on.
As soon as you start making your point they push the squelch button so they can talk over anything you might say.
The only liberals they let through to the host are those that sound mentally deficient.
The result? People listening to Conservative talk radio think liberals are idiots.
Very soon the FCC is going to force stations that broadcast on the peoples airways to be fair in their presentation of political thinking.
