There have been many comments also about "what the Watchtower didn't say". All sorts of accusations that "they never expressed condolences to the parents". Maybe they did. More than likely they did this on a personal level. But because of "hate" these wild accusations are made without any challenge. This is not unlike a lynch mob. It is speech that is inflammatory.

Am I to believe that you Odrade have gone on record condemning such tactics? Well then good. How many of the chorus will join you?

To keep "preaching and pushing" for more than a century---how the "end" is going to make folks pop out of the earth and surprise their loved ones, is a cruel sham. These people are victims OF that fraud, and of the WTS itself.

Your argument apparently isn't with JW's. It's with Paul who said stupid thing like:

1 Cor 15:32 "If, like men, I have fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, of what what goot is it to me? If the dead are not to be raised up, "let us eat and drink for tomorrow we are to die."

This is indeed enemy territory. I don't have time to answer all the comments individually. And I have no intention of becoming your village idiot like YOU KNOW. I really DO have a life. I am content to make my point.

But I am surprised no one that is observing this discussion has the courage to challenge the propaganda. I am referring to the repeated suggestion that IN FACT the little 14 year old boy with the two chickens is a fabrication. SHAME on all of you who made that remark. And EQUALLY - SHAME on all of you who let such blatant hatred go unchecked.

You all are indeed a "chorus".

My own witness parents failed to help me out on an occasion where I had a serious health problem. The congregation DID come to my aid though. They asked me if I have family that could help me. I explained my familys attitude. So they got together and paid my hospital bill.

This tells me that my family were A-Hole Christians but the congregation did the right thing.

As far as the complaint against JW's not running food pantrys etc. Every organization is free to define themselves as to the good they choose to do. This is the same for individuals. Russell had it in his head that his organization would never copy the other religions in their demands for money. Although this was a noble goal it has limited them in the scope of their charity. They pretty much have depended on voluntary labor and contributions. If they started to provide food pantrys (salvation army) healthclubs (YMCA) hospitals then they would have to actively spend most of their time raising funds for those purposes. Perhaps they would have to "tax" their members based on their income.

I have heard of many very heartening stories of JW's helping the needy. It would be interesting to see a thread about such stories. Most participants in this forum know of cases of JW generosity - but the culture here is to ridicule and criticize JW's.

I appreciate a lot of what you post...now that I have gotten used to your Carrot Top mode of presentation.

I don't give the Watchtower a free ride. I object to a lot of what they say. I don't judge religion as being "true" or "false". I look at specific teachings as "believable" or "unbelievable".

Minimus:

You asked why I support JW's. This question itself shows how far into the hatred end of the love-hate spectrum you are. You perceive my "ordinary" attempts at fairness as being support.

My personal view of Jehovah's Witnesses springs from my high capacity to tolerate ambiguity. I don't expect everyone to have the same tolerance. But I do expect people to exhibit fairness. I have no objection to "serious" discussion of JW doctrine but I would caution the undecided "lurkers" not to get caught up in the hysterical explosions of hate that have become common to this discussion group.

What do you mean by "perception"?

Which perception? Do you mean the perception I get from observing that Metatron and his chorus hate Jehovah's Witnesses?

I hate GE Appliances. They don't operate properly. Well, not all GE appliances. Just their dishwashers. Well, maybe not all their dishwashers but in particular the one that I use to own. Guess I shouldn't be so angry with GE. To be fair I have a couple GE appliances that have served me quite well.

As you can see I start out with a certain perception about GE Appliances. As I enlarge my horizon of experience with GE Appliances I realize that I need to change my perception of the quality of GE Appliances. Probably the next time I go shopping I will forget about being fair and fall back to my old perception that "I hate GE Appliances". My experience with that dishwasher had a powerful effect in defining my view of GE Appliances. Unless I keep reminding myself that my experience is limited to ONE BAD DISHWASHER my perception will remain the same.

Now do you think I am the right person to ask about the quality of GE Appliances?

This is obviously not a good place for people to come if they want a "fair" assessment of JW's.

To be "fair" JW's aren't fair either.

As with many posts here Metatron has stooped to petty fault finding and playing the game AIN'T IT AWFUL?...

Logic is not the only game in town. I am not sworn to logic in all circumstances. So if I choose to have an exchange with people that doesn't get bogged down in "logic" that is simply my choice - it does not make me a hypocrite.

I would like to invite you or Metatron to state your point as a PREMISE and CONCLUSION. Then I may decide to challenge its logic. So far things haven't unfolded in that direction.

In this particular discussion, especially at this point in this discussion, I don't think logic will help. We are dealing with "perceptions" in this situation. Logic can be used to reinforce perceptions (prejudices) but logic and argument will not change perceptions. Logic will tidy up things within existing paradigms but not change them. I am challenging the "perceptions" of Metatron and his chorus.

I think we tend to like logic because it makes us feel intellectually busy.
