  It is hypocritical to pick on the Watchtower on this issue. Helping people live moral lives is a noble way of helping the poor. Sometimes a hope is all that is needed to make a difference. JWs DO a very good job of looking out for each other. As with any system there may be people who fall through the safety net but that is not the typical situation. Any how nobody has any figures on this sort of thing. This forum of moaners and groaners in no way represents a statistical cross section of the 6.5 million JW's world wide.

  But I forgot. I'm not allowed to defend JW's on this open forum. Your ridicule has zero effect on me. Go get some facts.

  i have visited several churches with family and friends and this is something that i cannot get used to.

  i do not know if this is basically done in black churches or not ( i am aa) but it makes me a little uncomfortable.

  i will say that i have had feelings in these churches that i have never felt in the kh.

  My own curiosity would force me to investigate this situation 'til I made a nuisance of myself.

  What evidence was there that the person could speak Hebrew & Greek?

  Could he write Hebrew & Greek?

  Was he an expert at translating Hebrew & Greek?

  Did you put something written in Greek in front of him and then ask him to read it?

  Was he an idiot savant?

  Verify! Verify! Verify!

  Since you believe in demons and think they are powerful I would think that you might be a little gullible.

  I would love to have proof of this one.

  I don't believe that anyone can learn a language spontaneously. Sounds like an urban legend. I would need to really see some documentation of that.

  Sunspot:

  It has never been proven that anyone who speaks in tongues is actually speaking any known language. The infant situation is to show that humans are "speaker of words" so there must be some structure that can be tapped to produce something that sounds like language. We can all talk gibberish. Add a little group hysteria and a dash of rhythm and you too can speak in tongues. I am just suggesting that this is an area that could be examined scientifically if someone wanted to do that.

  Rappers develop a repertoir of word combinations that can be used just like a jazz musician strings together cord progressions and short musical phrases to improvise on a melody. Rappers who are good at "free styling" often appear to be in an ecstatic trance.

  So perhaps the JW's aren't the "only" ones who don't carry the burden of the worlds poor.

  Some may argue that under the current world situation more people would eventually starve if it weren't for the consumption habits of Americans.

  This is one of the reasons I think the Bible is still an extraordinary book. It suggests that there is something "deep" and "intrinisic" about the worlds problems. Humans can't solve these problems. There has to be a world revolution with help from the sky.

  The poor you will have with you always. The rich have to die. The meek shall inherit the earth.

  That's the message of Christ.

  From an evolutionary view the poor and starving are biologically successful. They keep reproducing in greater numbers than the rich who live long enough to die of cancer and heart disease.

  The part of the Bible that describes speaking in tongues just confirms to me that quite a bit of the Bible is nonsense if not fraud.

  We all start out life "speaking in tongues". The gurgling of a verbally frisky infant is the pre-cursor to the more coordinated word formation that comes later. There is bound to be a scientific explanation of this whole phenomenon.

  If you have doubts about modern day speaking in tongues you've got to wonder about the occasions recorded in the Bible.

  The identity of the AntiChrist is one of the earliest examples of wild Christian speculation. JW's are on solid Christian ground when they proclaim the End is Near. The Apostle John declared that it was the last hour based on his idea that the AntiChrist was anyone who left the faith. (1John 2:18,19) He was old and tired - the last of the Apostles and he no doubt believed the rumor that he would be alive when Jesus returned. (John 21:22,23).

  JW's have chosen to believe in the Apostle John's "apostate" interpretation of "anit-christ". The Apostle John an "apostate"? Not really. Apparently the early Christians were allowed to think independently without that label. But it is clear in hind-sight that John was in error about the anti-christ.

  If the end is really close then you would expect the anti-christ to be on the world stage right now. The "Left Behind" enthusiasts believe he is somewhere on the earth but remains to be identified.

  My candidate for anti-christ is Russian President Putin.

  He fits the description of the Anti-Christ at Daniel 8:23

  WTS positives- A therapy project

  so my therapist told me that if i am ever going to heal emotionally and psychologically from the damage done by the wts that i need to not just focus on the negative, but to think about how the wts helped make me a better person.

  i suppose it is because of the wts that i never got involved with illegal drugs or gangs.. .

  because of the wts i was always a good student in school.

  Does your therapist have a preferred type of therapy?

  It should be noted that the positives mentioned don't mean that these people think JW's are "right" . But excessive anger at people or organizations is a symptom that a person has some irrational issues that need to be worked on.

  It is one thing to say Jehovah's Witnesses are wrong and it's another to say that they are wicked, horrible.

  You are absolutely right. I thought about that after I posted it. But "meet-ups" for single JW's wouldn't be a bad idea. Complete with dramas about remaining "chaste" or is it "CHASED".

  The 30's article is interesting because it includes "disfellowship" as a false religious practice. I don't think they disfellowshipped people until the late 40's. I remember in the early 50's you could be disfellowshipped and have to show your repentance by attendance at the meetings for 5 or 10 years. I'm not against excommunication in cases of flagrant violation of community standards & "DUE PROCESS".
