First of all I am not alone in this opinion. Those that agree with me are probably in the minority. As I suggested, a search on Google will expose you to arguments against awards and other public expression of praise. In most cases we're not talking about measureable things such as sports statistics. By the way I think those statistics are necessary to carry on the sports business which has more to do with business than sport. Halls of Fame whether for Athletes or Musicians are just ego trips.

Nothing prevents you from praising people in public. I personally feel it is a tasteless & vulgar exercise. And I say that without fear of being ridiculed for voicing my unpopular opinion. If a person wants to quietly & privately compliment someone that may be acceptable.

When I think of awards I think of Nobel Peace Prize/Yasser Arafat

There has been references to the old idea of "inferiority complex" . Extraverts tend to like pats on the back. Introverts don't. There are more Extraverts in the General Population than there are Introverts.

And where are those who would repudiate you for using that kind of terminology? Not one person here appears to disagree with your behavior enough to call you on it.

my elderly dub aunt (who's the biggest whiner the world has ever seen) came over tonight to first of all, whine about how her neighbour shuts her kitchen cupboard doors in the most annoying way possible and her dog barks and what was she supposed to do about it?

anyway, as soon as these monumental problems were solved, she informed me that at the bookstudy the other night, the conductor told everyone to "stay after the prayer" as he had 'something important to announce.

" naturally everyone did this, all the while wondering if the red phone at patterson was in direct contact with jehovah himself as the study was being conducted.

vs 34. "In fact, there was not one in need among them; for all those who were possesors of fields or houses would sell them and bring the values of the things sold.

vs 35. "and deposit them at the feet of the apostles. In turn distribution would be made to each one just as he would have the need"

Actually they won't do this. They don't take the example of the early Christians THAT seriously. But you have to wonder why they don't do that. Are we asked to dedicate our lives but not our money?. Think how much could be accomplished with that kind of fund. With JW families bunching up in special dorms - everyone could be a pioneer.

i have a hard time accepting the fact that intelligent men truly beleive the creator has a special arrangement with them and somehow they are being used in a special position because of one scripture about the faithful and discreet slaves.. they should all be locked up in a nut house for beleiving that.

I am sorry for the "cut and paste comment". Re-reading some of your posts I can see the original thinking involved. I am happy to see that you "dislike popularity threads". "Thank Yous" can be given privately through the boards message center or in connection with an on-going thread. And it means a lot more when it is in context of a discussion because it lets the writer know that they are getting through to the reader.

One of the things I resent about the God of the Bible is that he requries "praise" and worship. I figure if there really were a God he wouldn't be so pathetic as to give a damn about his creation singing songs to him.

I want to add that there are others who share my feelings about these threads. But they realize they risk disapproval if they voice their oppinions.
