Witnesses and Voting (in Chile)

january 15th of this year, i happened to be in chile (work related) during the presidential runoff election.

on the day of the election, we could not work and most businesses were closed so everyone would have an opportunity to vote.

i was told that it was compulsory that everyone of age vote.

Today, while reading about Witnesses and politics, I realized that the compulsory vote requirement in Chile could cause some issues for the Witnesses who live there. I looked into this matter a little further and found that only those who are registered are required to vote.

Even though this is not as strict as I had originally believed, it seems that it still might present a problem for registered voters that converted to the Witnesses.

Does anybody know if this really is an issue in Chile, or how Witnesses get around it?

Speaker Podiums at the KH

for some strange reason i started thinking about the fact that i've never seen a speaker podium like the ones used at the kh anywhere aside from the kh.

you know what i'm talking about...those tall spindly legs supporting a small table and then a bible holder thing attached to that.

are those made specifically for the kh?

evolution awake

i went to kingdom hall today and they had the latest awake for me about evolution.. i guess my kingdom hall is a bit late maybe as i have seen others which had this awake already.

on the first hand it wasn't that bad as i had expected it.

not as bad as the latest creation book anyway.. is there any review done on the artikels here?.

The Mormons came by my house several times. I acted interested and they gave me a Book of Mormon and some literature. I offered to pay, but they refused to take the money. They came back a few times and we discussed various topics. Their approach seemed disorganized with no real direction except to try to get me to go to their church/temple.

Great responses everyone.

It's funny, but I had never thought of it this way before. By today's standards Jesus would be considered a homeless bum. I can just imagine the look on the well-to-do Christian's face when he realizes that much of his religious belief's are based on such a person.
