  So what about Lent and Easter??

  ok, so today is the first day of lent (which is painfully obvious to me because i've chosen to give up my favourite snacks for lent and right now, i have a really bad craving for doritos), and it got me to thinking, once again, about wts doctrine and the whole banning of holidays thing that they have going on.. i've read the reasons behind banning things like birthdays, christmas, halloween, mother's and father's day and national holidays like canada day and independence day, but i have yet to read anything about lent and easter.. so, what's the line of reasoning behind the banning of lent and easter??

  and i don't mean easter as in chocolate bunnies and easter eggs and all of that, i mean easter as a religious celebration of the resurrection of christ.

  after all, jws have the memorial of the crucifixion, don't they??

  so there i was... (i've always wanted to start a story with that line) .

  i'm sitting here taking a look at the posts on jwd when i start to hear a commotion coming from the direction of the cats' litter box.

  i look and one of my cats is jumping and flailing around... sometimes stopping to drag its ass across the floor... with cat crap dragging behind it.

  Advice please re Police blunder

  in november last year my partner applied to become a police officer.

  he received a letter saying he had passed stage 1 and would be invited to stage 2 which was an assessment centre.

  stage 3 was a fitness test which he was sure to pass as he has been running 6 miles a night in preparation.. we received a letter in february 2006 telling us that 300 people had passes stage 1 but they only had 192 places at the assessment centre therefore he and 107 others had been 'randomly de-selected'.

  What Went Thru Your Mind While Sitting at The Meetings?

  i used to listen but not really.

  i'd look at the platform/speaker stand, look like i was paying attention, get antsy, and find another elder to "discuss" something ith.

  i just got to the meeting----right before it was to start and if the talkative po decided that his last part was going to go overtime, i'd put on my coat and look at the big clock on my way out in front of everyone and leave for the local bar.

  I was shunned today in the post office.

  well this poor jw walked to the table to sort out the throw aways just as i headed there also.. i saw him and smiled, then he dropped his head to not look at me.

  we both sorted out the things for the trash bin and were only about 20 or so inches apart.. i remember him coming to my house when my daughters were young girls and he wanted to get aquainted.. maybe i should have spoken to him but i just looked at him and he refused to even look back.. how sad.

  he always has this really sad disappointed look on his face.

  Honesty, If the company know that they say that to you, shouldn't they be disciplined because they are being "religiously abusive" to you.

  I'm a school governor and if a child did this to another they would be disciplined and the incident reported to their parents. It would be treated on a par with racial abuse and could lead to exclusion.

  I complained when a 7 year old in my daughters class said to her face infront of the whole class "I hate Christians". I was pleased to be informed that the incident had already been dealt with in the manner above. I don't see how your situation is any different.

  JWs and the British Museum

  anyone been to the british museum?

  i know of some jws who are planning to visit.. i wonder just how incriminating could a visit be to a jw interested in looking at babylonian artifacts?

  i imagine that nothing really jumps out at you relating to jw chronology.

  Did they get a doing off the elders for not donating it to the kingdom work?
