Possible announcement in October....
by Skinnedsheep inpure speculation for several reasons.. "friends, it has been 100 momentous years since christ arrived as king.
in the last 100 years a great shout of praise has gone up to jehovah.
technology has greatly changed the way people live and communicate and jehovah has made sure that his organization is on the forefront of these changes.

we can now say with all confidence that the work of preaching the good news to the entire inhabited earth has been accomplished.
Meh. They already said this.
*** w95 9/1 pp. 17-18 par. 17 Christian Witnesses for Divine Sovereignty ***
Still, that first-century preaching work was merely a foretaste of what would be accomplished during the last days. Looking forward especially to our time, Jesus said: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14; Mark 13:10) Has this prophecy been fulfilled? Indeed, it has. -

It is legit. My elder father-in-law mentioned it to my wife the other day. I wasn't present. My wife told me. I had to act as if I didn't know about it.

Oh, my... what a HUGE spin here!
I was immediately struck by the "New World Translation" next to the verses. It actually caused me to look closer. I mean, why put that out there unless it says something different in other translations, right? Well, it actually DOES!
First, they make it seem like all one verse, but it's not. They combined two separate verses into one, with all the verses in between being taken out. Thus, context is in question.
Next, they make it sound like the verse is actually talking about the Bible. It ISN'T! Psalm 119:160 in the NWT reads this way:
"The very essence of your word is truth, And all your righteous judgments endure forever."
Other translations read:
"All your words are true"
"The sum of your word is truth"
"The very essence of your words is truth"
The Hebrew Interlinear at biblehub.com reads:
"[from] the beginning Your word [is] true"
Sneaky, sneaky, once again.

Where does the Governing Body say "old light" comes from?
by matt2414 inthe governing body claims they've received "new light" from jehovah every time they change their doctrine.
so where did the "old light" come from that's being replaced?
if the old light is incorrect, could it have come from god?

Any who dare to open this "can of worms" will see their favourite elders "suddenly" morph into Pharisees with big stones in hand...

What has the WTS EVER "predicted" that has actually come true?
by integ inyou'd think they could point to something right?
obviously we're the one true religion".. i can't fathom how anyone of any intelligence would be willing to join up with this org after doing even rudimentary research.. for years they have taught that it's wrong to seek advanced education or to plan for a "worldly" future by trusting in this system of things and then this past sunday the watchtower article rips on people for not planning for the future in regard to their elderly relatives.
maybe if they hadn't been teaching for 100 yr's that the end was "just around the corner" and telling us we'd better believe that fact...or else, we would have planned better for a future that you said without reservation would not even occur.. what mind blowing prediction can they point to that would convince someone "oh yeah..these guys have it right"...?.

If you read the Bible alone, you will fall out of the "truth". True!

@ADCMC... also, there are no downtown hotels on the official lodging list. None. Not a single one. I was looking at that list a couple of weeks ago just to see. That part of the email is pure bull****. The most expensive room costs $124 per night for a four person occupancy. Most range from $79 to $119, with the bulk at the lower end of that range.
About the only thing that MIGHT be true is that Husky Stadium has never been rented out, that is, the NEWLY RENOVATED Husky Stadium, and only because it was completed last summer. Well, duh!

Our cong. is doing the same thing. The bus system from where we are is spotty, so it makes sense. But the rental is pretty spendy. Can't recall the exact cost, but I was surprised when it was talked about months ago. The cong. isn't fleecing. The money is going directly to the bus company. But the fact that WTBTS put an International Convention in Seattle in an OUTDOOR STADIUM kinda makes one wonder what they were thinking. The weather could be nice in July, but it could also be miserable. We'll just have to wait and see and hope for the best.
