Oh leaving........What are you doing reading the bible without the WTBTS there to guide you?
LOL!
i was contemplating this verse this morning... what did james mean by "works"?
and it hit me like a bolt of lightning.. now, wts would have us believe these "works" are preaching and meetings.
however, could that be what james was referring to?

i am well aware that this thread could diverge into a discussion of the legitimacy of the watchtowers view of heavenly class and earthly class and what not.
... but that's not the thrust of my question.
i just replied to a thread about going to memorial and started thinking how after jesus started out no one talked about actually doing it after the initial time.
Apognophos is spot on.
Blondie is also right, especially 1 Cor 11:20-34. They did partake after the initial meal Jesus had. The thrust here is about not partaking unworthily, and from verses 20 - 22 it shows what that is: hungry or intoxicated. In other words, don't come to the Lord's evening meal expecting to get a full meal to fill your belly, and certainly don't come drunk. Verses 27 - 30 are not about scrutinizing whether one is anointed or not, but really, whether one is giving due honor to the reason for the occasion. I'm not sure how else to word this.
this is the question that came up in my mind.
now dont get me wrong i know the dates from 607 - 1914 are rubbish, but how would you explain to a witness when they will automatically say, look at the momentus year 1914 was.
that is evidence enough that 607 is correct!.
BTW, I am still "in" and am going through all the same questions you are. 1914 is a really big one to me. Proving it to myself is crucial. Unfortunately, the closer I look at it, the less I believe it.

Landmark in what way? WWI started in late July of that year. The 2,520 years didn't end until October. If Jesus was enthroned as King in October and threw Satan out of heaven then, how could it be said that WWI was related to that event?
after today's watchtower study which was basically a mind controlling article about shunning your loved disfellowshipped ones, i've come to see just how sick, twisted, vile, rotten, repulsive, disgusting, and just plain evil you all are.
so i stormed out.
i don't know if i'll ever come back to your meetings again.
A comment was made at ours that the C.O. once said that if we secretly communicate with disfellowshipped ones, we could be blocking holy spirit from operating on that one to draw them back. Wha....? Us lowly humans can block holy spirit? I think holy spirit will do what holy spirit wants to whether we're involved or not.
... there'd only be 901 years left to the thousand year reign.
just a thought that occurred to me a few minutes ago..

for those who do not believe 1914 is a big deal and it's not necessary to understand it, think again.
once (and if) my friend acknowledges that 1914 just simply isn't true, i want to make it clear that this would mean that every single time a statement was made with respect to 1914 it was a lie and according to your wt cd, there were at least (x) times this date was cited.
i want to ask how many awake magazines may have been distributed in the number of years that it held that 1914 statement.... cause everytime an awake magazine with the 1914 statement was distributed by the adherents, they promoted and distributed a lie.
Not sure this can be easily quantified. There are 6329 occurrances of 1914 in the WT CD Library (which only dates batch to 1950 for Watchtower and 1970 for Awake, so it's not complete), but not all are about the doctrine. Some refer to things written in that year, or events that happened in that year. It would take quite a bit of research to quantify every place that is strictly about 1914 from a doctrinal standpoint.

Now, WTS would have us believe these "works" are preaching and meetings. However, could that be what James was referring to? No. In fact, in all five chapters of James, not one reference is made to the need to preach. Just the opposite, actually. The very next verse, James 3:1 says, "Not many of YOU should become teachers, my brothers, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment."
So, then, what are these works? Paul made reference to works. At Gal 5:19-21, he described the "works of the flesh". Then, he followed that with the "fruitage of the spirit". The Greek word for "fruitage" is karpos (Strong's 2590) which has the literal definition of fruit, but metaphorically, an effect of a deed or action. One could say, then that the "effect of the spirit" are those things listed.
To further this a little, James talks about works and fruit in James 3:13-18, which is similar in tone to Pauls words.
What do you think?
