When are you coming to fix my steps and sweep the pine needles off the roof. I know I should be able climb up to the roof but my hip may give out.

Thought Reform and the Psychology of the 'Safeguard Your Heart!' 2012 Convention
by breakfast of champions into make attendance at my second district convention "mentally out" both a little more bearable and meaningful, i decided to take some notes of key points as if i were an outsider studying the thought reform methods of jehovah's witnesses.
at first, i was only going to share these notes with my therapist, but inspired by the "parsing the watchtower double-speak" thread, i figured i would share my amateur analysis with everyone.
here are some of the highlights:.

Breakfast of champions:
Excellent post and analysis. I have asked myself why, as I was growing up, I never had a clear idea of what I wanted in/or out of life, or even what I really felt about life. As you have pointed out, the borg/FDS (so called) manipulates and damages your self-concept until you never question what you might think or want. I can't believe that I accepted and let these people decide the course of my young life for nearly forty years. I never thought that they might not have my best interest in mind. As 00DAD stated:
So let's review. The WT gave us an "expectation" that was very exciting: Paradise Earth, Eternal Life! We put our hopes on it. Some of us bet everything on it. It has been unfulfilled because they are--to put it bluntly--wrong. And we're not supposed to be disappointed by this? WTF are these guys smoking?!?!?
How cowardly of them to continue pretending they "have the Truth" when all they do is lie. They are fraudulent, religious con-artists making promises that they can't keep and then blaming us for their failures. It really should be criminal what they do.
Why oh why did I ever believe these guys?
My sentiments exactly.
I see that they are becoming more demanding of the members. They are demanding your mind, heart, and soul, without letting you ask, or dare think, about what they are declaring as true. This is scary because so many will think and follow whatever the GB tells them to do. I have close to a hundred members of my family in this organization (only five of us out) and I have no hope that any of them will ever leave it.

Positive energy needed
by JeffT inabout three years ago my wife went through a bout of problems with her eyes, double vision, trouble focusing and the like.
after weeks of going to specialists etc no one knew for sure what it was and after a few weeks it went away by itself.
a couple of weeks ago it came back along with some other symptoms, notably weakness and pain in her legs.

I've been enlightened.
by Emery inive been lurking for quite sometime and now feel the need to come and noob it up.
it's taken a lot to bring me to read anything critical of the wts.
i used to glance at these apostate sites and shutter in fear because of the obvious demonic venom that can be found :) i am still an active witness and have been in this struggle to stay both in and be removed mentally from this organization.

Welcome. Glad you are finding out the truth about the truth while still young. Many of us wasted years in the organization before our eyes were opened. Look forward to more posts from you.

Do you have an invisible friend who talks to you?
by Glander inthis would be considered a strong indicator of mental illness.
but if it causes you or others no concern it can be quite harmless.. .

No, but sometimes I talk to the tv and I talk to my dogs all the time.

Princess Daisy Boo, I understand your frustration. It is difficult for me to sit through a JW funeral. I can't stand to sit there and listen to all that garbage. Sorry about your uncle's death. Maybe someday your cousins will see the
light, I mean the truth about the truth.

Grammer Fer Idiots
by Farkel inending a sentence in a proposition can get a guy slapped a who bunch of times.. conjugating stuff should only be done in a proper marriage.. a split infinity leads to babies.. gerunds are little animals certain movie stars put in places where the sun don't shine.. transitive refers to people who live under bridges.. intransitive refers to people who live in houses.. double life imprisonment is a compound sentence for really bad guys.. a compound/complex sentence is almost the same thing, but the judge was on drugs and didn't have a clue when he issued it.. parsing a sentence should only be performed by people who don't have a clue what they are doing.. an example of a propositional phrase is "hey babe!
your place or mine?".
alliteration is what happens when a whole bunch of people toss garbage out of their car windows on the highway.. punctuation is what every 14 year old boy wants to do to every 14 year old girl and every other female on the planet for that matter.. using a semi-colon in a sentence is the same thing as using a period, except it isn't.. using a colon is something best done in private.. most people, use commas, way too much, and this, should be, avoided, however.. exclamation marks should be used sparingly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I have also noticed that in spelling, British(and Australians) prefer 's' while Americans favor 'z'. For e.g.: organiSation vs organiZation, realiSe vs realiZe. Or were they misspellings?
Farkel, Do you have one for non-native English Speaking?
blindnomore, I noticed the difference in them using 's' instead of 'z' also. I thought I must be misspelling the words but I guess there is just a difference in spelling. Interesting.
