ethiopia archaeologists make important fossil find sat mar 5, 2005 12:03 pm gmt
addis ababa (reuters) - archaeologists studying human origins in eastern ethiopia have discovered 12 fossils that appear to be older than the famous fossil "lucy," the team leader said on saturday.
I remember when I first broke free of the fear of reading information contradictory to the WTS or other fundies: I read many of AlanF's essays and looked things up on the talkorigins site as well as a few others sites recommended by various posters here.
All that reading not only opened my eyes and mind but also reminded me never to open my mouth about something I wasn't entirely sure of, 'cause you end up having to defend your views (which is impossible when it comes to young earth theories) to the likes of AlanF, hawkaw, Abaddon and others.
Give it up, hooberus, unless you like looking silly and uninformed.
poor thing, she's had alzheimer's for about 10 years and the last year she's been on hospice care because she's been so close to death.
the past few months she's been slowly filling up with water -- they gave her lasix (not sure of the spelling) to relieve the edema and it worked, sort of.
last weekend she actually looked a little better.
((Nina)) I'm so sorry for your loss. But I understand when you say that you're relieved that her ordeal is over, both for her and you. My mother's passing was very peaceful also, which is a comfort.
The sadness remains, but the burden is lifted. My thoughts are with you and Chris and the kids.
probably been discussed before but, we were just checking the monthly reports in this years km's and started looking back over the last few years to then getting out 1994/5 km's to find that basically in our country the number of publishers is about the same each year.
a couple of peaks and troughs, but basically the same.
"by their fruits you will recognize them" what about the lack of fruit?
And don't forget that some (or many) of those publishers aren't really publishing, as in their service reports are bogus, just a way of messing with Brooklyn's braindead. Not that I'm talking about myself, of course.
So the real numbers are much lower.
does your life have a purpose or are you just existing?
over the years i've learned to extract the good out of bad situations and it has given me a different perspective on life.
life is all about learning.
I make sure I notice life around me. I'm in awe with life. There is so much to be in awe about, however, we're distracted by the pleasures of life and personal pursuits. I'm not against such things its just needs to be in 'balance.'Hey Golf! How?re you doing? I?ve really got to pay you and the wife a visit one of these days.
A question for you about the above quote. Do you feel that Native beliefs help you appreciate nature and life?
As for me, I think this is a great topic. Like many here, I was running on empty during my days in the borg. I got to the point where I couldn?t feel anything: you couldn?t get too close to people in the congregation in case they turned out to be bad association, you couldn?t get close to ?worldly? relatives, and the god of the witnesses is such a petty, nit-picking monster you certainly couldn?t feel close to him.
Now it?s like I?ve finally come up for air and I can breath again. So I?m going to university part-time, doing some charity work and getting work done on my house. Plus accepting invites to birthday parties (my own and others!), New Year?s Eve parties, etc. It feels great to be part of life, so yes, now I am living.
hello it's been a long time since i was here just needed some input please from all loving parents...would you rather your daughter be:
1. married to a guy who's not really that great (history of having lotsa women, irresponsible) but seems to love/like your daughter.
2. be gay (with woman who is quite good, responsible and everything but - a woman...).
I don't know your history at all, I think this is the first post of yours that I've read. Do you still actually believe the Bible is the infallible word of god? Maybe when you realize that the Bible is as flawed as any other book out there, you won't feel so bad about your choices in life. Your feelings, be they straight, gay or bi, are not wrong.
Have you visited www.gayxjw.org ? There are many others with feelings like yours, please share yours with people who can understand you.
Please don't do anything to harm yourself; you deserve to be happy, with whomever you want as long as that person treats you with love and compassion. Being alone ain't that bad either, just depends on what works for you.
Please take care of yourself.
i hope i haven't jumped the gun on this one, but it was too exciting to keep a secret.
for all of you who followed my trial, and the diappointing results, will find this interesting.
i have always felt that this story, the whole story, needed to be told.
Way to go Vicki!! That's fantastic! I will be sending good vibes your way so that it all works out successfully.
You deserve the best!
hard to believe, but another year has passed.
once again, it's time for the darwin award nominees.

Hard to believe, but another year has passed. Once again, it's time for the Darwin Award Nominees. The Darwins are awarded every year to the persons who died in the most stupid manner, thereby removing themselves from the gene pool. This year's nine nominees are:
Nominee No. 1: [San Jose Mercury News]:An unidentified man, using a shotgun like a club to break a former girlfriend's windshield, accidentally shot himself to death when the gun discharged, blowing a hole in his gut.
Nominee No. 2: [Kalamazoo Gazette]:
James Burns, 34, (a mechanic) of Alamo, MI, was killed in March as he was trying to repair what police describe as a "farm-type truck." Burns got a friend to drive the truck on a highway while Burns hung underneath so that he could ascertain the source of a troubling noise. Burns' clothes caught on something, however, and the other man found Burns "wrapped in the drive shaft."
Nominee No. 3: [Hickory Daily Record]:
Ken Charles Barger, 47, accidentally shot himself to death in December in Newton, NC. Awakening to the sound of a ringing telephone beside his bed, he reached for the phone but grabbed instead a Smith & Wesson 38 Special, which discharged when he drew it to his ear. (For whatever reason, residents of Southern states always seem to figure prominently among the Darwin nominees.)
Nominee No. 4: [UPI, Toronto]:
Police said a lawyer demonstrating the safety of windows in a downtown Toronto skyscraper crashed through a pane with his shoulder and plunged 24 floors to his death. A police spokesman said Garry Hoy, 39, fell into the courtyard of the Toronto Dominion Bank Tower early Friday evening as he was explaining the strength of the building's windows to visiting law students. Hoy previously has conducted demonstrations of window strength according to police reports. Peter Lawson, managing partner of the firm Holden Day, told the Toronto Sun newspaper that Hoy was "one of the best and brightest" members of the 200-man association. (Nice to see another Canadian province getting into the awards.... The Maritimes always have been heavily involved.)
Nominee No. 5: [Bloomberg News Service]:
A terrible diet and a room with no ventilation are being blamed for the death of a man who was killed by his own gas emissions. There was no mark on his body, and an autopsy showed large amounts of methane gas in his system. His diet had consisted primarily of beans and cabbage (and a couple of other things). It was just the right combination of foods. It appears that the man died in his sleep from breathing the poisonous cloud that was hanging over his bed.Had he been outside or had his windows been opened, it wouldn't have been fatal. But the man was shut up in his nearly airtight bedroom. According to the article, "He was a big man with a huge capacity for creating "this deadly gas." Three of the rescuers got sick, and one was hospitalized.
Nominee No. 6: [The News of the Weird]:
Michael Anderson Godwin made News of the Weird posthumously. He had spent several years awaiting South Carolina's electric chair on a murder conviction before having his sentence reduced to life in prison. While sitting on a metal toilet in his cell attempting to fix his small TV set, he bit into a wire and was electrocuted. (South Carolina entrants are always perennial favorites.)
Nominee No. 7: [The Indianapolis Star]:
A cigarette lighter may have triggered a fatal explosion in Dunkirk, IN. A Jay County man, using a cigarette lighter to check the barrel of a muzzle loader, was killed Monday night when the weapon discharged in his face, sheriff's investigators said. Gregory David Pryor, 19, died in his parents' rural Dunkirk home at about 11:30 PM. Investigators said Pryor was cleaning a 54-caliber muzzleloader that had not been firing properly. He was using the lighter to look into the barrel when the gunpowder ignited.
Nominee No. 8: [Reuters, Mississauga, Ontario]:
A man cleaning a bird feeder on the balcony of his condominium apartment in this Toronto suburb slipped and fell 23 stories to his death. Stefan Macko, 55, was standing on a wheeled chair when the accident occurred, said Inspector D'Arcy Honer of the Peel Regional Police. "It appears that the chair moved, and he went over the balcony," Honer said. (Another Ontario entry....I wonder if people are moving there from the Maritime Provinces.)
Finally, THE WINNER!!!: [Arkansas Democrat Gazette]:
Two local men were injured when their pickup truck left the road and struck a tree near Cotton Patch on State Highway 38 early Monday. Woodruff County deputy Dovey Snyder reported the accident shortly after midnight Monday. Thurston Poole, 33, of Des Arc, and Billy Ray Wallis, 38, of Little Rock, were returning to Des Arc after a frog gigging trip on an overcast Sunday night when Poole's pickup truck headlights malfunctioned.
The two men concluded that the headlight fuse on the older-model truck had burned out. As a replacement fuse was not available, Wallis noticed that the .22 caliber bullet from his pistol fit perfectly into the fuse box next to the steering-wheel column. Upon inserting the bullet the headlights again began to operate properly, and the two men proceeded on eastbound toward the White River Bridge.
After traveling approximately 20 miles, and just before crossing theriver, the bullet apparently overheated, discharged, and struck Poole in the testicles. The vehicle swerved sharply right, exiting the pavement, and striking a tree. Poole suffered only minor cuts and abrasions from the accident, but will require extensive surgery to repair the damage to his testicles, which will never operate as intended. Wallis sustained a broken clavicle and was treated and released. "Thank God weweren't on that bridge when Thurston shot his balls off, or we might both be dead, "stated Wallis.
"I've been a trooper for 10 years in this part of the world, but this is a first for me. I can't believe that those two would admit how this accident happened," said Snyder. Upon being notified of the wreck, Lavinia (Poole's wife) asked how many frogs the boys had caught and did anyone get them from the truck??? (Though Poole and Wallis did not die as a result of their misadventure as normally required by Darwin Award Official Rules, it can be argued that Poole DID, in fact, effectively remove himself from the gene pool.
i just recieved this note from one of our faithful and discreet slaves... keep an eye out for the march 2005 km.
word is that the awake will only be published once a month starting in january 2006.. sincerely,.
district overbeer.
Actually, it's not the printing of the books that keeps them in business, it's the contributions for the books. So, if they put the updates into an envelope with a tear-off contribution stub, or sold the updated pages at the literature counter, they would still get all their money, while reducing costs
I'd love to bet that Brooklyn will come up with "new light" and do exactly as you've suggested they do. And it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that they monitor this board for ideas they can't come up with on their own

Just heard from the dub here at work. At their pioneer meeting the elders hold once a year one of the elders said that it'll be in the March KM. As of January, 2006, the Awake will be published once a month.
I also mentioned to my dub "friend" that the Organized book will be updated and a new one published and given out at the special March 20th meeting. This dub (ex-missionary, friends of GB members, still very much in and true believers) said to me:
"How can it be kept up to date if they keep changing things all the time?" She was less than impressed at the news.
The part about the Awake, however, floored her.
