the plaintiff, candace conti's goal from the very beginning was to bring enough attention to this problem to incentivize watchtower to change its policy of secrecy.

the award can be explained as it was decided: separate compensatory and punitive damages.

the punitive award is established in law to punish wrongdoing - here, the conscious disregard for others - and deter that conduct in the future.

No wonder he lost the case so miserably! I am not sure what planet he's from(oh yeh, he's from Watchtower planet) but as far as I know from my extensive research,

1. The confession of Child sexual abuse is not protected by Ecclesiastical Privilege.

2. Even if it was, once you pass the information to another person(such as reporting it to the Branch), you loose the privillege.

Someone can correct me if I am incorrect on these.

The WT may ended up taking the case to the Suprem Court for interpretaion of the law at cost of huge publicity. Either way it's huge blow on them.

many moons ago, i questioned the legitimacy of the steven unthank case and/or his manner of relating the news on his website.

official court documents were difficult to locate (at least for some of us, and after a certain date) and my only direct source for information was unthank's own website, though later i heard from a poster who attended one of the hearings.

i had my hopes up for a major case against the wt, but the little info i could verify left me confused.

I espcially impressed by Candace's sense of Justice.

She fought for the rest of JW past, current and potential victims. Her goal was to expose watchtower's dirty secret/policy to the world.

I thank you for your courage and integrity for the sake of justice! You spoke loud and clear for all of us!

Shunning ... when it's Convenient

i have a lifelong buddy (g) who is now df'd ....doing great and happy.

he has a nice boat.

a while back he gets a call from a very well known elder who, of course, shuns him.. elder: "hi g. i know this is a little strange, but i don't know who else to call".

I have been pre occupying with $28+million case. I haven't forgot about your feed back on my comment.

For privacy reason, I didn't reveal what was my statuts in the borg at the time when I wrote check of $1500 to a JW family. Now that this entire child sexual abuse case bring more light to our attention, I can better explain my situation.

I was one of immodest by running ahead and bring reproach on Jehovah and his orgranization at the time. I stood up against local child abuser elders. I wasn't Df'ed but was being witch hunted by the BOE of 3 congregations and was treated worse than DF'ed. I was shunned fully and this family was one of a few who kept their association with me. I thought they were my friend. I was glad to help them out. Little did I realize then that was my last personal contact with them. Of course I never got even $1 back from them. Looking back the JW took advantage of my situation and drew out from me while I was still in officially.

I had been taken advantage by numerous JWs over the years mostly financially. I was a sucker.

Wow! I have one too.

I was approached by JW who was in forclosure for not paying HOA for 10 months. I wrote them a check of $1500 and bailed JW out from going into forclosing their home. They got to keep their home. The next time I saw them in Wal Mart I wasn't good enough talk to. They shunned me. They are still living in that home today.

Old Goat, Isn't that shocking! Sad thing is that most JWs including many elders do not know their own core doctrine on this. That is,

Jesus is the mediator between Jehovah and the anointed of 144,000 only!

The rest JWs have to look up the FDS(=the GB) for their slavation. The GB use this teaching to obtain complete obedience and loyalty of their followers. Why don't non-anointed JWs partake?(they are discouraged to do so in the first place, btw) Because they are not the party of the new convenant. They are just observers! More precisely, most JWs are still under the old covenant in essence, according to Watchtower teaching. SHOCKING!

The WTS teaches one thing that Christians are no longer under the Old Covenant but deny their own words by altering the teachings of Jesus found in the NT, including the ransom arrangement and replaced them with their own doctrines. Just like Pharisses.

Ask CO or DO or call Service Department!

JW victims: Every effort was made to kick out child abused victims and their family who are helping victimized children by JW elders.

JW media: the congregation needs to be protected from their influence.

JW victims: the congregation needs to be protected from their speaking out the truth. Victims are forever silenced with label of 'unrepentant wrongdores'

JW media:The Bible clearly states that: "Remove the wicked man from among yourselves."(1 Corinthian 5:13)"

JW victims: Please do! Remove your wicked child abuser elders from your congregation. Why removing their victims instead? God is watching YOU!!
