I heard this quite often. Both the "I'll get that house", or how they'd get one even bigger. However, more common was trash talking the houses and the people owning them. How they'd soon get it all taken away from them, how their efforts are fruitless, and how they probably never have time to enjoy their luxurious facilities because of long work hours and high mortgage costs. Cognitive dissonance at its best.

Did others experience this on the ministry or among JWs generally?
by slimboyfat insometimes it's hard to know if our own experience of jws was typical and what features were peculiar to our own area or the individual jws we knew personally.
i was wondering if others experienced this among jws:.
a few times on the ministry, when we were working wealthy areas with large houses, some brothers and sisters would make the comment that they look forward to taking ownership of one of these big houses after armageddon, when the worldly people have vacated them.

Hi everyone! Thought I'd introduce myself, give a little of a background story. I've been a short 3 month member of jwr, so now I'll try to visit you guys instead.
I'm in my mid twenties today, live in Sweden. Grew up in a family with an active Jehovahmom and inactive dad. Followed mom to meetings til I was 12, then stopped and lived a rather "normal" life until I was 19. Started to wonder about life, turned to JWs for anwers, went hardcore. Dropped med school, baptizm after 8 months, regular pioneer asap, and soon ministerial servant. Life was great.
Until 2 years ago, doubts began to rise. Cognitive dissonance kicked in, but 6 months ago I started to investigate for real. And woke up rather abruptly. So three months ago I pulled a fast fade, stopped visiting all meetings, field service, and also denied all contact except relatives. Things have gone quite well since then, much thanks to the support from jwr.
I still need to process some things, learn, and start figuring out what I'll do with my life. So I look forward to getting to know this board and its members! I'd also like to thank everyone who makes these communities what they are - including the closed jwr, and this board I'm writing in now. Without the hard work of admins/mods it would not be possible. Alongside all regular posters who contribute in their own unique way. Applauses to you all!

Hi, all old and new!
I can't deny that I was surprised, shocked and somewhat sad when I saw that the site has been closed. But that just highlights the importance of the site, and of these communities in general. When I had started to awake, I needed somewhere to vent, to get support, to learn. Even though I spent only a few months at jwr, it meant the world to me. It helped to kick-start my fading process, while giving me a positive feeling about my own future.
Every road has an end, they say. And there are other places to move on to, like this. But I'll never forget the loving atmosphere at jwr. And all lovely people who hang out there. Even though I'll probably never learn to now you in real life, I'll never forget many of your usernames, avatars, precious comments and nice chat moments. So thanks to you all - both admins and posters for making that possible!
