The absolute insanity that religion breeds
by LoveUniHateExams inhowever good certain religious principles may or may not be, there seems to be complete insanity that only religion breeds.. a buddhist monk in thailand has apparently chopped off his own head to give himself 'good luck' in the afterlife.. .

'Theocratic Careers' and the Covid Pandemic
by eyeslice inthe watchtower has always banged on about not pursuing worldly careers and that best career was 'theocratic service.
but now i am wondering what line they will take.
let's have look at the options;.

- Missionary Service : Almost all missionary homes have been sold or closed and most missionaries in parts of Central South America/Africa have been sent packing. Most recent Guilead graduation was field with bethelites or former missionries. Most of them are sent back to the same location or back to some branch office. There was a massive cull in Brookly as well when the started moving to the new HQ.
- Bethel Service : Recently they closed all bethels in Central America and sent many back to the field aka back home. Massive reduction in the bethel in Mexico and many were not pleased. Before that, the bethel in Mexico printed for Mexico and Central America, with the reduction of the magazines from 1536 pages(per year) to only 46 pages (per year). You read that right, only 3 WT per year with only 16 pages. Calendars, and many publication have been discontinued which means you need less workers.
- Serving Where the need is Great : Most of those who had plans to serve where the heat is greater have had to rethink that. Many already established would probably have gone back home because of the instability ($$$$)caused by the pandemic
- Construction Work : Quick builds have been dead for a long time. What seems to be happening is that many congregations are being merged and KHs sold. They sometimes build a new KH and merge multiple congregations into the new hall and just sell the remaining. There is less enthusiasm for members to contribute $$$ to the local congregation since the GB took over the halls and raided the bank accounts of many congregation. Imagine how people felt seeing a KH you contributed to and helped build being sold and the organization pocketing the cash.
- Foreign Language Groups and Congregations : The lastest update from the GB is that the FL groups and congregation are a waste of time and $$$ so they are closing them down. A lot of disgruntled elders losing their fancy position in the FL field. Now add those elders to main language congregation with a lot of elders and each vying for the little position that is left. Some congregations are huge with 150 to 200 publishers. Very little room to shine. The competition will be interesting
- Pioneer service : Due to the pandemic and people having a hard time meeting the hours requirement, they have just decided that pioneering has no hour requirement. Just do what you can. The difficulty will be getting those people to get back to active preaching once the pandemic is over. Once you taste the good life, going back to hardship will not be easy
- Circuit Overseers : The days of the COs are also numbered. With the merging and FL groups being dissolved, that means there will be a reduction in the number of Circuits. Some overseers will be getting the boot sooner or later. Another difficulty for the COs will be going back to visiting each congregation every week when you have experienced over a year of bliss running everything through Zoom. Once the meeting is over, you are home and don't have to deal with spiritually trying to encourage others. The stress level must now be lower.
That above leaves very little room for those aspiring (ambitious) for spiritual position in the organization. There is little left to reach out to. Even talks are now video sent by the organization for assemblies. You can't add your personal touch and shine like before. The future will be really interesting.
BTW, only those who have been in the organization long enough will appreciate the shift in the organization strategy. The younger ones (under 30) really wouldn't have a point of reference and they will not share the same point of view.

Over population
by mickbobcat inso i see some very counter intuitive videos on how there is no over population issue.
that the world will grow to about 11 billion and stop.
well that would be the first time in human history that population just stopped.

There is no need to panic. Greed will lead us were we deserve to be and by the time that happens, a lot of people who are worried about over population will be dead. Then, something major like major war, tsunami, pandemic, etc will happen and it will wipe out a few million people (Population control).

Covid Virus and serving where the need is greater
by eyeslice ini get the impression that many of those serving where 'the need is greater' have had to return to their home countries due to the current covid pandemic.. just over a year back the society was pushing people to go to places like india; not the easiest places to get to grips with at the best of times.
now i see that the covid pandemic is pretty much out of control in india.
it seems to me that 'needs greaters' were the watchtowers way of getting missionaries on the cheap.

there isn't much to do when most JWs are now writing letters and making unwanted phone calls to people in the phone book. You don't need to be a needs greater to accomplish that. The normal preacher will likely not resume until well into 2022.

Unfortunately if you put your kids thru the school system, they will be educated in liberal philosophy.
Education system has always been about indoctrination. Today, it is woke and liberal. Most of those retired now went through a conservative school system and that didn't turn out great either. Apparently, teacher used to be able to apply corporal punishment. Every generation has something to complain about.

Do You Think White People Are Being Discriminated Against?
by minimus insome call it reverse discrimination.
whatever you want to refer to as, in your opinion, are white people being unfairly picked on?
it seems acceptable that if you are white you are viewed with disdain.

Little of that type of racism has any real effect on day-to-day life.
So giving an inferior candidate your spot at university ...
Promoting an inferior work colleague because of a diversity quota & PR ...
Not hiring someone on the basis of their race ...
You don't think these have any real effect on people's day-to-day life?
The issue with the above statement is that it tries to place the blame on the victim (inferior candidate) of a rigged system. He didn't build the system but it this case the system works to his advantage and he will be foolish not to take it.
If a male colleagues gets more salary and a female employee for doing the same job. Blaming the male employee for benefiting from an unjust system is only trying to shift the blame. The problem is with the employer.
The point of "inferior candidate" is relative. Some of those taking your spot at a University are giving your spot because their parents are loaded. Why blame the inferior candidate taking your place when the system gave it to him?
As they say, "don't hate the player, hate the game"

As an institution, I think people expect law and order. They want to be able to, expect to be able to call for help. I think people who are good citizens do care about keeping law and order.
That is funny (good citizens) because it is actually not true. Here is a list of some people who are considered good citizens and they still didn't care about law and order : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_federal_politicians_convicted_of_crimes
A professional criminal/thief will still expect law and order so that other criminals do not break into his house and still his belongings. Humans are strange

There is a small, vocal, and very violent minority who are given disproportionate coverage in the media but I don't think they have widespread support in reality.
That is the real problem.
Most people don't care about the police in the way you don't care what happens to your turd after you flush the toilet. You just want the process to work as designed. You only "strongly care" when the turd starts to float upwards.
