IXav, I’m glad you got a definition from Wikipedia so that you could respond. Really glad.
you are welcome

many politicians and people agree that we are all affected by the scourge of systemic racism.

Sorry, I’m at work and am just getting back here. Why do you need me to give you a definition? You don’t know what systemic racism is considered?? That’s bs . Look up the definition if you need to.
You have been in this forum long enough to know how these things work and how this can degenerate into a us vs them. It is actually not BS given that some people actually don't believe systemic racism exist.
Now back to your question. If you go by Wikipedia's definition then, I will answer the question. "Is it as pervasive as some will suggest" ?
The very meaning of "systemic" will suggest that it is as pervasive. It means it is baked into the system.
Now, this is where is gets complicated. Some see racism everywhere when that is not the case. Some confuse racism with classism. Others like to think that systemic racism is a left and right issue when that is not often the case. Still, some believe that systemic racism died in the 50s/60s

what’s your view of this?
I think the concept of "systemic racism" was created to push political policies that wouldn't pass on their own merits. And that most claims of systemic racism are bull shirt. The claim that the foundational principles of this nation are racist is hog wash.
But if it is defined as "government preference by race", then it exists - exemplified by the Democrat party
You have a right to your opinion and you can call it BS but having a definition will still help your argument.

what’s your view of this?
It's confession by projection. The left thinks racism is everywhere because their fundamental view is racist.
it still doesn't answer the original question and you cannot really answer it until you define the main issue.

I'm not ashamed to be white. That said, there are too many white people in this country who look down on people who don't look like them. Trump made that problem worse, but it was already here.
Good point.
Let's wait for @minimus to provide a definition of "systemic racism" so that the actual discussion can begin.

What's your definition of "systemic racism"?
Good question. Without a proper definition, this thread will likely go to #%@#$%@#%
we are encouraged to all, if possible, get the vaccinations.
if you don’t, we are told that we definitely could get the virus.
fair enough.. but what happens if you decide you aren’t going to get the shots?
Stan LOL, is that an upgrade or not? That is the real question
actors' acceptance speeches have often been a little dodgy - viewers don't care what political or social views actors may have, we typically appreciate actors acting well.. this year's oscars awards ceremony seems to be going above and beyond, however.. here's frances mcdormand's acceptance speech, in which she dedicates her victory to 'our wolf' and then howls like a bitch, lol.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-_be0awgwk.
It goes both ways, of course. I'm a right-winger and want immigration to be controlled and illegal immigrants deported. But if some right-wing actor said during his acceptance speech that he wanted illegal immigration stopped, I'd be like 'What. The. F**k?! This is a film awards not the Daily Politics - f**k off from the stage, you tosser.'
What you said sound correct but it doesn't make sense in the real world. If you want to go down that road, Hollywood will likely stop making films.
If I quote you "Hollywood is about making good movies and entertaining people. Giving priority to current political opinions is ridiculous"
The issue with that comment is that entertainment or what we find appealing is often linked to our daily reality. Charlie Chaplin made films about the Nazi occupation during the second world war, what that Woke and out of place. Saving Private Ryan was another great film but it has its root in politics and the propaganda of defeating the Nazis.
Even the great Shawshank Redemption was a film about social injustice where you end up in prison and the system takes advantage of you. You can't just separate social issues from entertainment and insert them when it suits you. The only option left will likely be Science Fiction and not everyone will consider that to be entertainment.
You just need to consider maybe one of your favorite films to see how involve it is in daily reality

Are people in this forum really ok with this sort of tone ? 2021 and calling people ‘blacks’ and complaining about people of colour being on screen?
Okay, I'll be your Huckleberry. What should we call them if not blacks? You did not like it when they were called, even by themselves, N---ers. You whine if they are called Negro. And the term "person of color" can also be used for Caucasians as they are WHITE, according to the PC crowd. And if they are a "person of color"...WHAT color? And I also do not like the idea of blacks being inserted into movies just because they are black and it fits the "woke" agenda. It is just as offensive to me and senseless as inserting QWERTY characters in movies and television strictly because they are "gay".
LOL! You know that is not what he was talking about. His whole point is that some people feel that having black or so called POC in movies is being Woke and out of place. Why doesn't it bother the poster so much. If you don't like it don't watch.
see the article called just in: joe biden scores whopping 85 percent approval among those who watched address to congress .
i sure was impressed with it when i saw it..
I'm wondering about youtube's pro-left, anti-right agenda, then you gave an example of a banned right-winger but claimed this was because of his channel becoming too hot.
I agree that most social media are often left leaning but not necessarily anti-right. The example I gave is one of many right-wing channels that existed for years on Youtube and there were no issue(not too hot!!). You can't make a general statement as if those channels weren't given a voice for years.
What changed? It became too hot at some point and the potential commercial impact on youtube meant that he got the chop - why doesn't YouTube ban left-wing channels that become too hot?
You made a general statement here and I asked for an example which I believe is how "honest debate works". You make a statement, you back it up with sources/references. I even agreed with you that right-wing channel were banned and I even gave you example. You should be able to find a left-wing channel that is "too hot" that has not been banned on Youtube.
