  Using history as a means to pinpoint possible future events.

  the purpose of this thread is to share some history with the community.

  i am an active jw.

  the reason i picked this forum is due to the openness and ease with which information can be accessed.

  Hi HS,

  I'm looking forward to seeing how you attempt to tie things/history together. This is an intriguing thread title you chose.

  Hebrews 1:2; 11:3 & Romans 13:1 all suggest that human history has in some way been orchestrated or managed by God. So, in theory at least, one might be able to observe a pattern and/or some sort of organization to how history has played out so far, with an eye towards the future. But getting the right perspective or point of view so that it all comes into focus may be the most difficult thing.

  At any rate, looking forward to what you present with interest.

  Here is a comparison I did of the "faithful & discreet slave" parable in the synoptic gospels (Luke, Mark, & Matthew). I'll let the reader decide how it compares with the WT's explanation of the parable.

  it takes place tomorrow from what i gather.

  does this mean they still do fs in the morning?

  If I understand correctly, the "annual meeting" is something corporations do to keep shareholders up to date on how the 'business' is doing. It might even be government mandated. See here and here.

  In the case of the WT, they have always held these. Its just that the R&F would always find out about what happened afterwards. But with KHs having video equipment now, the WT invites the R&F to watch (and donate).

  KH dedication

  correct me if i'm wrong--.

  when a new-build or existing property is acquired for use as a kingdom hall----is it still the custom to have a sort of "dedication to jehovah" type of service ?.

  if it is--what happens when the property is sold ?

  This is interesting. When it comes to dedication and baptism, the Society says a person's dedication cannot be recalled or undone. Building 'dedications' on the part of the Society are a sham.

  will gladly tell you that matthew 24:14 proves that only they are god's true people/religion, because they are the only people preaching the good news worldwide today.

  crucially, they double-down on this lame bet by adding that their worldwide preaching proves another wtbts teaching, namely, that we are living in "the last days.

  If you are interested take a look at my posts on this thread (on another site), and especially this post which tries to show how Mt 24:14 and Mt 24:31 complement each other. (Mt 24:14 fulfilled before the Roman-Jewish War; Mt 24:31 afterwards.)

  You could add Romans 16:25-26 to the evidence that Mt 24:14 was fulfilled in the first century:

  25 Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mysterythat had been kept secret for long ages, 26 but now is disclosed, and through the prophetic scriptures has been made known to all the nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedienceof faith –

  What is the Baptism all about?

  does the act of baptism make us a "member" of any group or organization?

  or, is it something much greater in its purpose?.

  when we as former jws came to the truthful conclusion that what the wtborg cult inc. was teaching/preaching was not an accurate representation of the word, many of us decided to look into every nook and cranny to see if we could discover the real truth.

  See my first and second posts on this thread for some background on WT baptism. I find it telling that the WT never references Romans 6:1-7 when speaking of baptism. Never. For the WT, baptism is an initiation rite to "associate" with them. By being baptized you become someone who is granted permission to 'associate with God's spirit directed organization.'

  lately i have been finding myself doing a lot of thinking.

  not that i am smarter than the keurig coffee maker in my office, which lately has made me reevaluate the perception of my professional career.

  somewhere along the way between winding down my relationship with my now ex-boss and starting a new one with my current boss, i noticed that the machine complaints with a message on a touchscreen….

  Here is an outline of the Mosaic Law regarding slaves, Hebrew as well as Gentile. For their time, Israel's slavery laws were revolutionary for their humaneness, in comparison with slavery among Gentiles. (No doubt, there were individual exceptions to this. And actual practice may have been sometimes different to what the Law stated.) There is a section in the link that discusses female slaves from war.

  Israelite slavery does not compare well with modern democracies - in theory anyways, In practice, modern democracies have outsourced their 'slavery' to third world nations so that their own citizens have the appearance of freedom without any slavery. The same can be said for some of the more wealthy Islamic nations.

  JWs Reveling In The News Of Hurricanes And Earthquakes

  as you know, this week the human race has been hit with hurricanes and earthquakes.

  I friend of mine who attends a not-too-distant KH told me that they were having some sort of 30 minute video presentation tonight (9-22-17 Friday) at their KH. She said it was "concerning the weather." That's all she knew. It's not their CO visit, by the way. And this is in an area that was affected by hurricane Irma, but not too badly.

  Anyone heard anything about/like this?
