my computer crashed so i am not fully informed of the recent antiwatchtower organization.

i must vent, however.

perhaps i am the only one on the face of the earth (or the entire universe) but i found cedar's opening announcement insulting.

There is no need to state my protest and academic credentials. My entire professional and private life has centered on abuse of power. The reason I am obsessed about the topic has to do with my Witness upbringing. First, for people around me to form a protest movement and not invite me is one of the rudest actions I have had to cope with in my long life.

The self appointed leaders could have invited masses of forum members through pm. From what I do know for a fact, secret groups could be easily penetrated by true professionals. A mass movement could work. Furthermore, loose leadership and inclusiveness would empower all legitimate forum members. Not only would the WT suffer but we could empower ourselves in a very powerful and real manner.I have been a forum member long enough to know that the rank and files members of this forum have more accumulated wisdom and sophistication than illkegitimate leaders.

I am a bit confused. Are you saying that you do not agree with an anti-watchtower policy activist group or that you just dont believe in leadership to get the ball rolling?

Do you feel with the right leadership it is possible? Is it inferred that the current leadership of said group is not credible?

What about members of the group? Do any of them have credentials to be effective?

A positive for you is that you were not "force added" by a friend and therefore you could not be "outed" if that was a concern for you.

JW Divorce Rate

anybody know what the jw divorce rate is these days?.

how many dub couples do you know that got divorced?.

The elder that performed my wedding talk informed me that he had done the talk for 17 couples over his years, and they were all divorced including his 2 sons. I made 18 for him.

Of a group of around 20 kids my age growing up in the hall, none of them are still married to their first spouse. Only 4 of them remain captive today to the org.

It is staggering but not surprizing at all.

1. Key Objectives

AAWA is committed to two key objectives:
1.Raising awareness both inside and outside the Watchtower organization of its damaging beliefs and practices
2.Assisting those who wish to leave the organization by making it easier for such ones to get the help and support they need

To achieve these objectives, AAWA will:
¦Establish a network of willing volunteers who may assist AAWA according to their individual skills and circumstances
¦Devise and implement new campaigns and strategies with the help and cooperation of its associates

Zed, I agree with you. It has gotten off to a rough start and alienated many specifically over security reasons. Yesterday Simon made some excellent points to remedy the situation that would satisfy some. I genuinely hope AAWA will address those concerns and take steps to rectify the initial wave of membership so that others can feel more comfortable with membership.

I feel rebooting the membership and preventing "add to group" capabilities, only allowing approved requests to join that have been carefully screened is a way to close the resident security issues. This specifically if the group remains "secret"

Better still is if membership is rebooted, the group is made "open" and the veil of secrecy is lifted so that each requesting member knows exactly what they are in for in a very public way.

AAWA's mission statement has nothing to do with "taking down the Watchtower" Its members have many and varied belief systems. The dissention has been difficult to watch. Over 10,000 have done so and no doubt find themselves on one side of the fence. Uniting surviving cult members is difficult.

Lost, you are a sensationalist still struggling with doomsday indoctrination. Ad Hominem and straw man argumentation will not help to further your own agenda which is clear by your posting style. If the spirit of complaint is all you want to bring to the table and repeat attempts to deconstruct AAWA with your personal contempt, this discussion will go absolutely nowhere and will possibly result in lockdown such as the other AAWA threads.

Bring solutions please. AAWA is going to be around for a long time. Let's help to make it better.

I believe some constructive critcism has been stated on the forum and AAWA may benefit by taking an honest look at it. Many concerns that have been stated are valid and I would say motivated from a desire to see AAWA improve and succeed.

Some of the dissent has not been helpful and instead baseless attacks predicated on predisposed agendas and personality conflicts with board members of AAWA. That is unfortunate to say the least.

It is also unfair to brand JWN as a whole for being apathetic to AAWA mission. This forum is host to a plethora of brilliant minds that would be beneficial to AAWA's cause if they could be brought in by efforts to listen to concerns that can be addressed and implemented.

I hope these issues will be dealt with and that there will be common ground that even the most stringent nay sayers could possibly get behind. Much responsibility is placed upon AAWA's board members to act as ambassadors to a vast ExJW community. Humility and accomodation will be important qualities to develope and maintain if they will see success in member affiliation alone.

I see no issues whatsoever with AAWA's credibility. The board members have a vast collective history of pro active success against Watchtower. Barbara Anderson was a solid founder and will no doubt continue to support AAWA as she can.

In conjunction with the board, there will be thousands of more than capable volunteers carrying out the tasks of activism. AAWA could certainly review its membership and possibly conduct a reboot to put many people at ease. It will ultimately be up to the board of directors.

AAWA will be fine. Let's revisit in a year and talk about the success.

...Barbara Andersons Resignation from AAWA...

barbara is no longer vp at aawa..nor is she a member of aawa... she will not be discussing aawa on jwn,or on any other forum... barbara has friends at aawa and will help them out when she can... .

barbara has not given reasons to anybody for resigning... i believe she had too many irons in the fire... she had been expressing for weeks to friends that she was exhausted... from working on another project... everyone concerned will see the fruits of this project in the future... .
