i'm very surprised that my family has not heard about this "special meeting".
we are a 3rd generation jw family, dad is the po, mom has been a reg pio for 25 yrs, brother is a bethelite.
can anyone tell me the date of this supposed "special meeting" and if there is a chicagoland location.. thanks
Thanks Eby
It will be very interesting to read up on the news from this "special" event.
I don't understand what the Society is trying to accomplish with all the secrecy surrounding this meeting. These are the things that feed the egos of the "pharisees" amongst us. I can just hear some of the "chosen" ones gloating over the fact they were invited. Personally, I could care less about sitting through yet ANOTHER meeting. My family and I, including my uncle and aunt overseas who serve in a foreign branch have always maintained a very low profile as we go about our service, never expecting acclamations for what we feel is our duty to perform. One of my dad's favorite texts is Ruth 2:12 "May Jehovah reward the way you act..." and this is his motto. I'm having a harder time lately dealing with all the pompous, over-righteous "boys" than I've had in the past. This event just gives them more fuel. Oh well-

Thanks AlanF for your input.
Does anyone know if there is going to be one in the Chicagoland area?

i don't post very often on this board and when i do i'm quite laconic.
it's my nature, im a person of few yet concise words.
that being said i would like to share my brief thoughts on the blood issue as i see it.. all jws are familiar with the words at luke 22:20 as they are read ritually every memorial: " ...this cup means the new covenant by virtue of my blood, which is to be poured out in your behalf.".

All JWs are familiar with the words at Luke 22:20 as they are read ritually every Memorial: " ...This cup means the new covenant by virtue of my BLOOD, which is to be poured out in YOUR behalf."
My simple reasoning is this:
Since Jesus gave his BLOOD for our salvation, what is so wrong with us giving our blood to save someone's life? Isn't the use of blood for the saving of life an approved practice since our Leader set the precedent?
Just my take on the matter.
I feel the whole blood issue should just be a matter of conscience.

i know a similar topic has been started before but im sitting here feeling a little nostalgic at the moment as i reflect on some of the truly sincere people i have been priveleged to meet in this organization.
one such person was david binkley and his truly wonderful wife esther.
they served us when i was a kid and i will never forget their genuine christian personalities!
I also wanted to ask if anyone else remembered the Binkley's and if anyone knew if they are still around and where they might be serving?

They were the humblest, meekest traveling couple I have ever met, just serving the brothers in their special role as traveling friends always with a "real" smile on their faces! I pray Jehovah will always look out for his True servants as they really do follow Christ's example of self sacrifice! Does anyone else have any fond memories of brothers in authoritative positions that were true gems?
i was wondering if anyone was privy to any insider information about whether or not the society has seen the need to cut back on the meetings to possibly 2 or even just 1 meeting a week?
Thanks for your posts guys. I agree with what you mention.
Im a 30s something life long JW in a very cohesive family which is VERY active in the congregation. Dad is the PO, mom is a 3 decade pioneer, sibling is a 2 decade bethelite, aunt and uncle serve in a foreign branch, oh yeah, and Im an elder too. Although I have had my serious doubts about the WTBTS for years, I continue to go through the motions for family reasons. As we all know, to be a dissenter would mean total ostracism from my dear family and friends. I couldn't handle that. I love them too much.
So, in the meantime, I was just hoping that eventually the GB would get the hint from the low meeting attendance here in the US and in western Europe and realize that the brothers are getting tired of the repetition. The bookstudy attendance especially is very low, our CO mentioned in passing that the figures here in the US are close to 55% of the reg publishers actually attending the BS!
