he's a good friend of mine who will have plenty to add here.
(he's written volumes on the dubs) having recently attained some much needed freedom he was able to join the forum.. he may be a little hesitant to come forth at first, but with a little coaxing...he's got a good "coming out of the org.
" story and lots of insight!.

"if they are well acquainted with the lyrics of the "grease" soundtrack, weren't allowed to see the omen or the excorcist, had a massive video player at home, can't recall using mobile phones, they know who killed jr." and what else?
Hershey chocolate bars were 10 cents!
Gasoline was 49 cents a gallon!
My parents bought a 3 bedroom bi level house for $58,000 in 1977, today it would sell for $450,000
don't know why i just thought of that.
do they go or are the "exempt" from going from door to door?.
George Gangas was notorious for doing street work.
so said an elder's wife who is considered the most respected sister in the congregation.
she said this at my mom's bookstudy where many elderly attend.
when my mother told me what the elder's wife has said, i said, "well, it's better to know now where you stand with jehovah than later, i guess".
Mary, I just realized you had already asked the same question.

On what scripture did the elderette base her comment? What meetings did Abraham attend? As I recall he is the only one in the Bible referred to as God's friend.

i noticed that we have a lot of new lurkers here - and, in particular, some elders who are agonizing over how to get free.
from the watchtower without causing too much damage to themselves.
here are some suggestions that have worked.
Metatron-
First, let me say that I especially enjoy reading your articulate, well placed posts! I always look to find your latest tid bit of wisdom on this board.
I totally agree with your suggestions. I am in the process of planning to do exactly what you suggest about moving to a different congregation, in fact, I am working on moving out of state. If it were not for wanting to finally live MY life, and not continue to live my current artifical JW life, I never would have desired to move away. I totally love my current address. However, my sanity is at risk, and nothing is worth my long term happiness.
Thank you for your continued contributions to this site.

i'm talking about the new posters, like kitten whiskers, who started posting today (hope this works: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/120817/1.ashx).
and it seems like we're getting a few like this nearly every day.
people who were raised jws, really worry that they are doing the right thing in leaving, yet who have been made to feel not good enough by the wts, who felt they never measured up, who struggled with it, but came to realize that what they'd been brought up to believe was just not the truth.. the same stories are told over and over again, and they come from sincere, good people - not whiny, fault-finding apostates like the rest of us riffraff around here!

I couldn't agree more!!

Welcome Doubting Bro!
Your story sounds a lot like mine. I too am still in, (elder, BS overseer) going through the motions strictly for family reasons. I would have left 5 years ago when with the help of Freeminds and this board I started doing real research for the very first time in my life. However, my love for my die hard JW family (regular pioneer mom, po dad, foreign branch bethelites aunt and uncle) and host of life long friends currently is making my outing myself a little difficult. That is not to say that I will be able to take much more of the insanity of this religion, this upcoming KN #37 campaign "takes the cake" when it comes to the insane things this religion continues to do. I do hope within the next two years to make my exit.

Maybe JapanBoy can give us an update? Is he out of the hospital? Is he back in NY?
