Growing up my parents hosted the bookstudy for 17 years and everytime after the meeting my mom would serve coffee, fruit juice for the kids, homemade cake or pie and plenty of fresh fruit. My parents are very hospitable.

so, i keep hearing reference to this.
was this just taking place in really small congregations?
i mean, i know the philosophy behind it; my mom would put a hat on to pray in front on my "unbelieving" dad.
I have LOLd so many times today as I remember that day with with sister Margaret. Although odd, she was very intelligent and a genuine person. I felt very bad when I heard all the bad things that happened to this lady. The main reason her husband left her was this d--mn religion! He couldn't take all of her absences from family gatherings, christmas, easter, mother's day, birthdays, etc...

Babygirl75- We were in a very upscale neighborhood too! I remember trying to control my laughter, it was the weirdest thing I ever saw up to that point in my life.

Interestingly, the last CO visit we had, the CO stated in our elders meeting that we should NOT be using the term "our mother says". He used to use it all the time in his talks, but NO more. Evidently, this is a directive from "mother". She is tired of caring for all these "needy" kids!

A D- The scripture they base the "mother" nonsense is in Galations 4:26 "...the Jerusalme above is free, and she is our mother." Jerusalem above they interpret as Jah's Heavenly Organization, which inlcudes the annointed who have been resurrected after 1918 and who play a part in the dispensing of "present" truth today via the FDS, "channel"!
Utter and complete NONSENSE!

When I was a kid 9 or 10 years old, I went out in the service after school with my friend, his older brother, sister and mom. Before we started wallking around the block, his mom took the FLOOR MAT from the passenger side and put it on her head to pray! I kid you not.
She claimed to be of the "annointed". I heard recently that her husband (non JW) left her, all three kids are out and she is in a mental hospital. Thinking back, she really was an odd duck!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Q
back in the early 1980s i was visiting my aunt in gresham oregon, a suburb of portland.
she was worldly but being a good witness that i was i picked up the yellow pages to find the location of the local kingdom hall.
well, i found it but i also found a listing for "jehovah's christian witnesses".
That "apostate" group was here in Chicago too at the same time, early 80's. I remember one weekday morning answering the telephone at the KH only to hear a recording from this group with an invitation to their meeting. Don't know anything else about them.
Q
in a recent post, journey-on had some very very interesting observations.
i am taking them a little deeper.. journey on said:i think they will go sort of mainstream if they see the slow leak has turned into a full blown rupture....but it will happen gradually and over time.
it is very apparent that you have given this a lot of deep thought.
Winnower-
Your statements are made with absolute conviction. Do you have a reliable source from the "inside" who is confirming these future changes?
Q
from the canadian supreme court's website, the court will hear a pivitol blood case whether a jehovah's witness teenager should be forced to have a blood transfusion.
this important case will most likely set the tone of the canadian government stand on a minor's right to refuse medically recommended life-saving treatment.. skeeter.
.
I hope and pray justice finally prevails and a legal precedent is set!
Q
Besty- That makes sense-
