I am enjoying SE Tennessee along the river, the Cumberland plateau and Appalachian Mountains and near the edge of the Smokey Mountains.
Nantahala and Ocoee white water rivers, and the heart of the Smokeys are about 3-4 hours way.
Some stunning scenery all over the place.
Plenty of outdoor sports here. Mild winters. Reasonable cost of living. The people are very friendly.
Close to Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville and Birmingham. A little more then 7 hours to the northern gulf beaches.
I came close to buying this house on the side of Signal Mtn and making it into a air B&B. I was selling for about $120k. I kinda wish I had. https://i.pinimg.com/236x/84/6c/ae/846caef821e8a71aa30f6aa72b6ad644--unusual-buildings-unusual-houses.jpg

OMG I just watched some of "the family" on Netflix and the similarities with the JW are strong. I just saw the in beginning of one episode, that it began in Eisenhower administration! Of course! His mother was a Bible Student. ( JW)The ideas had to be familiar. USSR and the USA were a Holy War in his mind.
Of course there are some big differences too, but a whole lot of control and belief similarities.
I am also struck all the sudden, why did Lloyd Evans pick John Cedars as his screen name? It is probably coincidence, but does he have knowladge of this "brotherhood"? That John is one of the highest of chosen ones, and the house where the "chosen" gather in DC is called the Cedars house?
This secret organization is centered on Jesus, loyalty to the death to the chosen ones, and the belief the one in position's of power in governments are chosen to be there by God, no matter what they do.
This is so thought provoking.

Syrian conflict
by Holden Caufield ini feel that assad even though he is bad is a better alternative then islamic extremist taking power.
what do you think?.

The problem is once the US gets involved, it must stay involved in order to keep a vacuume from happening that will allow the extremists to fill it and take over. It is a very dangerous position for the US troops to be in. There absolutly must be back up allies to help avoid the vacuume of power. It is not a short term answer, it has to be long term. Is that really where the US belongs right now?
I have mixed feelings about the centuries old conflicts, with very real tyrannes, and atrociaties.Yet the precarious stabilities of those same countries that are not overrun with the extremist islamists.

I am one of those that Joe134cd describes.I turned up here for lifeline support.
It is a massively heartbreaking and extremely difficult experience that cannot properly be described in words.
I wish that on no one, ever.

What Are Your Predictions for 2020 and Beyond?
by The Bethelite in2020 the society will continue to have financial problems with massive pay outs because of their lack of protecting their young people from a religion that harbors thousands of pedophiles.
thus this and other religions that has an 1800's mentality will continue to lose their young people.
with the religion's lies easily found on the internet the smart ones will continue to leave in droves.

Only hindsight has 2020 vision.
The Watchtower is a perfect example of that.

The Holidays Are No Big Deal Anymore
by minimus inyou used to hear christmas music blaring on every radio station.
not anymore.
people used to jam the roadways and malls to do their christmas shopping and now it’s no big deal.
-

On;line shopping has relieved some of the crowds. But Christmas is every bit as special as it used to be.
It is about family being together in most people's celebrations, then gift giving to make it even more special. Having Christ in Christmas has been reducing in my observation, but the importance of being together on Christmas is alive and well.
Finding a person who will be alone on Christmas is important for many to be able to invite them over to share the celebration.
Volunteering and donating is higher during the Christmas season. ( I forgot my source for this)
However, you are quite correct that it is increasingly politically incorrect to say "Merry Christmas". In business it is considered necessary to wish Happy Holidays.

by nonjwspouse ini have been putting together a legacy box ( these are local guys that created this huge company by the way) and getting my jw in laws old 35mm slides put together with bar codes to ship off for them to be digitized and returned.
curiously, the box of 25 slides that had some from the 1975 assembly had the whole batch of assembly slides missing from the box!
i am so curious if they destroyed them!

Curiously, the box of 25 slides that had some from the 1975 assembly had the whole batch of assembly slides missing from the box! Like 8 or 10 of them.
I am so curious if they destroyed them! There are some slides loose in the box that will have digitized without a title label for the thumb drive. I wonder if it is in those loose slides. I will immediately get them out and look at therm when they arrive.

Do You Think “Higher Education “Is All That??
by minimus inas jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.
i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.
it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.

A well rounded education is necessary for a good education. Yes, the specialties are needed, but not to the exclusion of learning about history, government, science, math, English. They all come into play in your life regardless of what you eventually choose to focus your studies on.
That being said, a determined person can get that well rounded education without attending a college class. Reading, and traveling, working and learning to lead are all things that can get you a well rounded education without attending the university. It takes a LOT of self determination, goal setting, hard work, and time.
