Hawk, the problem is (IMO) this girl has become a poster child, the case of the week, for WTS. Even if she starts to feel doubts, she is under a spotlight. I fear that that pressure has pushed her firmly into "don't question Jah's Organization" mode, far more so than at any time in her life.
Still, there is nothing wrong with providing factual information; you never know WHO it might help.

I received a "sheparding visit" in 1989 3 months after I was married. The elder told us that holding hands, or holding my arm around my wife during the song, was stumbling others. (In retrospect, this helpful visit was the first of many things which eventually caused my departure).
About a year later, I went to a meeting with about 1 weeks growth beard (I had missed the previous weeks meeting due to studying for final exams -- married and in University -- whew!). An MS in the hall had a full, neat beard (although I now think he received "papal dispensation" because of a bad skin problem). I was naive, and just grew my beard in, not knowing I had done anything wrong. Well, it was my turn to handle the roving microphones (FUN? WOW!) and as I started preparing mine, the same elder (who lovingly stumbled me the previous year) stopped me and quietly said I couldn't because of my beard. I was confused, upset, but mostly relieved.
The thing that bugs me is: if you show this thread of honest, personal experiences to a JW, they will dismiss it as "100% APOSTATE LIES", even though they have experienced some of this same "counsel".

Mom's reaction to the Golden Age "No Gravity" article
by Quotes ini recently sent my mom a copy of the 1932 golden age article which blabs on and on about how the theory of gravity is incorrect (read it here: http://quotes.watchtower.ca/gravitation_and_electric_energy.htm).
she left me a voicemail message and said that she and my father had read it over, thoroughly.
"your father said, 'well, it looks like a very unscientific person took it on himself to write a scientific article' (giggle)".

TheListener, thanks for the kind words. I'll continue to take it easy with her. In this case, I've waiting for a couple of months for the opportunity to "share this article from the Watchtower Society" with her (does that sound like a door-to-door presentation?) :-)
I wonder what she will report my dad said when I have dozens of these "unscientific" articles to share? Maybe something like "It looks like *several* unscientific persons took it upon themselves to *repeatedly* write unscientific articles on many and various topics and cause them to be published every month for several years". Which of course is probably pretty close to the truth! That describes WTS pretty well, I think. -

Scully asked:
==============
Since when was Shane Brady QUALIFIED to give a medical opinion?? I thought he was a lawyer.
==============
IMO, he is not even very well qualified to give legal opinions! ;)
In Hawks post:
=================
"Like every other Canadian, she was seeking a second opinion," Brady said, adding that their motive for going to Ontario was misrepresented.
=================
Um, I am just guessing here, but I'll bet good money that she was looking for a 19th or 20th opinion. Are we to believe that she was unable to get a 2nd opinion in her home province? I don't think so!
One more thought:
==================
The girl and her family had wanted to seek cancer care at a children's medical centre in New York with doctors experienced in providing cancer treatment without blood transfusions.
================
I would be interested to know if that "medical centre in New York" has an address 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn. At the very least, it would interesting to see if it is entirely or partially funded by WTS money. Creating your own (unscientific) medicine standards is not much different than the Mormon Churches funded science lab that is mandated with finding evidence for a 6000 yr old earth, and disproving the evidence to the contrary. After all, if you can't find competent experts to agree with your opinion, make your own! ;) -

"They have NEVER lied"
by Robert_V_Frazier inin this post over at carm, http://tinyurl.com/84ntg a jw from australia who goes by the handle "corvus" made a rather audacious claim:[the society] have never lied to, mislead or decieved anyone - they have made mistakes.. .
in response, i listed four lies that the society has made, three of which are easily investigated and proven to be lies.
1) the cover story that beth-sarim was built to house resurrected old testament saints who were coming back in 1925, when in fact, the house was built to get rutherford away from bethel.

The claim that the theory of gravity is incorrect is, arguably, a lie (http://quotes.watchtower.ca/gravitation_and_electric_energy.htm). Sure, some may claim that this was a "mistake", but in 1932 the theory of gravity was strongly established; complete with Einstein's Relativity being proven by observation during an eclipse. For someone to claim in 1932 that gravity theory is an incorrect theroy, well, youd have to be either crazy or lieing.
WTS spokesmen lie in interviews; claim that abstaining from voting or military service is a "conscience matter" when in fact JWs are TOLD (by WTS, not by their conscience) that they must not do these things. See http://quotes.watchtower.ca/spokesman.htm to see JR Brown caught in several lies, with links to the proof he is telling a lie.
WTS lied on its web page when they said "Those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned. " (see http://quotes.watchtower.ca/DF_DA.htm). They later changed that web page; I always wondered if it was because it was causing JWs to think there was New Light(tm) and that they didn't have to shun their ex-JW family.
WTS lied when it calimed "Jehovah's Witnesses never coerce anyone into baptism" (see http://quotes.watchtower.ca/baptism.htm). They had the cajones to state this lie two paraghaphs before a loaded, cercive statement "Is Something Holding You Back?". See this baptism quotes page for more examples of coresion towards baptism.
WTS lied when they said they have a cure for skin cancer (http://quotes.watchtower.ca/cancer-cure.htm). Some will call this a mistake; I say there are some mistakes so big that the only logical explanation is that it was a lie, not a mistake.
WTS lied when they said (in the masthead of EVERY magazine) that the "generation that saw the events of 1914 would see armageddon" -- and then defined a generation as meaning someone who was alive in 1914 would be alive to see armageddon. Some would call this a mistake; I say the lie starts when they say that this doctrine is "clearly, evidently shown in the bible". Once the doctrine changes (which it has), the only possible explanation is that the old doctrine was NOT AT ALL shown in the bible. Stating it was in the bible is a lie.
WTS diatribe against aluminum is filled with (as comdian Steve Martin would say) "Lies and Made Up Facts". As Martin would continue (in an imitation of a revivalist preacher) "They should have told me ahead of time, that they did not want me to lie and make up facts."

She left me a VoiceMail message and said that she and my father had read it over, thoroughly. She then said:
"Your father said, 'Well, it looks like a very unscientific person took it on himself to write a scientific article' (giggle)"
The way she said this, with sarcasm in her voice and a gigle at the end, indicates to me that she thought my dad's response was pretty stupid.
Of course, I would like to ask my dad exactly how some individual can "take it upon themselves" to write an article in a WTS publication -- the excuse implies a community effort which does not exist. Also, this is in direct violation of the belief that everything published by WTS is approved by the Gov Body. Finally, it implies that this was a unique, fluke accident. Which gives me more motivation to work on the Golden Age sharing project (mentioned in another thread) to demonstrate that this lunacy was the rule, not the exception.

Good news (but don't pop the champagne just yet)!
I am in the process of adding an entirely new dimension to the Watchtower.ca web site (or should I say, family of sites in multiple languages). Using "WikiWiki" technology, it will be almost trivial for us to collaborate on this (or any other) subject.
I'll announce more soon, but anyone reading this may be prompted to start scanning and OCRing Golden Age magazines, in preparation.

A reminder regarding who "Glen How and Associates" really is.
I have in my possession a letter sent to me from "Glen How and Associates". You can see a copy here:
Page 1
Page 2
Notice at the bottom of page 1, the letterhead lists the following address for this "Law Firm":
"Office: 13893 Highway 7"
That address is the "emergency services address" of Bethel Canada (emergency servcies addresses are required for 911 emergency services in rural areas). In case you need proof that this address corresponds to Bethel Canada, just plug the address into Google Maps Satellite Images:
Click here for google satellite image of this address
Google pinpoints it slightly down the street, but this is due to a slight error on google's part (the service isn't perfect). This confirms the point: Shane Brady's "law firm" is not independent counsel; rather they are the IN HOUSE consel for Watch Tower Canada. Brady's claims to the contrary are bald-faced lies.
In the next few days I'll be taking a trip out to that address to confirm, first hand, and take photos.
~Quotes, of the "thinks lawyers shouldn't lie" class
Edit to add: click the Google link above; that is the WTS bethel canada just to the left of the pinpointed location. -

When you left the JW's, did you keep all your books & magazines?
by Rod P ini had a collection of older publications almost second to none.
along with the 30-year publications index, i felt invincible in the research department.. then i got disfellowshipped and divorced, and my ex kept them all.
" i couldn't tell her "for research" because that would have sounded like i was going to write a book exposing jw's, which would have made things even worse.

I kept mine, but my wife took many things when she left me.
I still can't understand why she took my copy of the "Reasoning" book? She had her own copy! Same for the "Organized" book.
Oh well, I am replacing my "Reasoning" book (thanks to Ebay) this very minute.
Some people say they literally burn their old pubs; I say SELL THEM ON EBAY! Keep the truth about Da Troof in circulation, and make some money too!
