For some reason, this video of mine has rec'd more than 10 times the views of any of my other videos; presently 13,211 views. I suspect the word "neck brace" makes it popular, for some perverse reason.

So I've been issued a challenge......
by Vachi 8 He Is inmy elder of an uncle came to visit recently and taking note of how crappy-go-f#@ky and bored of life i seemed starts in "why don't you want to go to the hall?
what changed?
" i give him the rundown of my disappointments in god, my issues with the bible, and how the religion is basically formed on the interpretations of russell and/or rutherford.

I don't know what your situation is, but it might be good to exercise caution and prudence.
Putting your thoughts down on paper, even if you were encouraged/solicited to do so by others, could be used against you in an Elder-Kangaroo-Court.
Unless you want such a letter being "Exhibit A" for the Prosecution, don't do it.
OTOH, if you are fully out and don't care what they say/do, go ahead and write it down; the other suggestions on this page are great.

Did you SAVE money by using a hotel on the recommended lodging list?
by truthseeker ini haven't seen this question posted here before, but did any of you who stayed at one of the hotels on the society's recommended lodging list save money than if you attended a hotel not on the list?.
having seen a few of these lists, it seems the rates given are expensive..

Thanks LDH, good point.
The free rooms would only be at the (few!) nice hotels on the list.
For the rest, it is likely "a straight cash payback / secret commission".
In my profession, one of the points of ethics makes "secret commissions" (i.e. "kick backs") a license losing activity.
Too bad the WTS doesn't have the ethical limitations of a bunch of evil, worldly, doomed-to-destruction engineers. No, they are ssssoooooo much better than us evil, worldly people!

Page 8, para6: "When preaching, our goal is not to win arguments; neither is it simply to convey information. We want to reason skillfully from the Scriptures."
Wow.
Isn't "conveying information" *EXACTLY* what JWS are doing? When cornered about "trying to convert people", don't the JWs defend their activity by saying, "No, we just want to Witness to our faith in God's promise. We have been given a commission to preach" --> But is not preaching, basically, simply, CONVEYING INFORMATION????
And isn't "reason skillfully" just a euphemism for "winning arguments"?

Sorry, I'm really having fun with this stupidity.
Page 3, para 9: "When entering an apartment building, wipe your shoes and close the door securely behind you. By showing such courtesy, we alleviate the tenants' reasons for complaint."
In the JW Bizzaro world, apartment tenant complaints sound like this: "Gee, I don't mind them bringing their books and their wacky religion and confronting me right in my home when I'm trying to enjoy my day off. But what DOES bother me is when they don't wipe their feet, and when they somehow prevent the automatic door closer from closing the door automatically. THAT is what bothers me. If they would wipe and pull the door closed, I would have no complaints!"

Page 3, para 4: "If the locked building has an intercom outside the entrance, we can use it to find someeone who agrees to let us in to speak with him."
Page 3, para 5: "Some tenants may prefer that you tell them the purpose of your visit over the intercom."
Are we to understand that, from para 4, you randomly buzz people and only say "Hello, I would like to come up and speak to you. Would you please let me in the building?"
The implication of para 5 is clear: DO *NOT* PROACTIVELY TELL THE TENANT THE PURPOSE OF YOUR VISIT unless they ask. Try to get access while hiding your true purpose.
Reminds of the way Amway (or whatever they call themselves now) recruits. They too are trained to NOT say what it is for, just tell the person you want to "discuss a business opportunity". You are 45 minutes into the presentation before they drop the Amway bomb on you.
So, WTS is counseling clever deception via deliberately delayed disclosure, as a ruse to get access to a building.

Page 3, para.2: "In the face of the threat of crime and violence, a growing number of apartment buildings are locked and have doormen or surveillance cameras."
Hello, Watchtower? Are you listening? Crime, and Violent Crime, has been on a steady DECREASE since the mid 1990s. You always forget to mention that, don't you? It doesn't
Speaking personally, the "high security, door manned" building I live in has a specific purpose for all the security: TO KEEP UNWANTED PEDDLERS OUT (THIS MEANS YOU).
So far, it has been successful. I have NEVER had a JW knock at my door. I was telephone witnessed once, about 5 years ago. It seems that the 1.4 billion hours of public preaching work is not as thorough as they would lead us to believe!

Perhaps you have seen this? Keep an eye out:
There is a video clip that I have seen repeated on TV many times, involving a car chase that ends at a gas station (after quite a long chase, all recorded on the police dashboard cameras).
The "suspect vehicle" crashed through the gas station and somehow started a fire (I guess fuel and sparky metal is not a good combination).
The vehicle is sitting in the middle of the flames, but makes not effort to move or escape. As the TV announcer says, this seriously deranged person seems intent on dieing in flames.
Risking their own life, one of the police cruisers uses his vehicle to push the suspect vehicle out of and away from the flames. Once in a safer location, the cops surround the vehicle and force open a door.
When the door opens... (wait for it...) you can hear music blasting at top volume. It was totally recognizable.
What music you ask?
(Wait for it...)
Why, Kingdom Songs, of course!!!
I suppose, that doesn't prove the suspect was a JW, but I'd bet money that it was a JW. I always wondered what the story was: did they have a nervous breakdown after getting DFd because the couldn't stop smoking (or some other minor infraction), and were so filled with self loathing (thanks to WTS mental conditioning) that they wanted to take their own life? Did they refuse to stop because they believed the WTS teaching that cops are controlled by Satan, as they are part of "This System(tm)"?

If it were only about WTS trying to help you save money, then they wouldn't care if you used expedia.com or velocity.com or hotels.com, if that gave a better deal. It seems evident (to borrow a WTS weasel phrase) that there must me some other motive.
Like any good investigation, a good place to start is by answering the question: "Who benefits?"
According to both an "in the know" post here at JWD several years ago, and also according to basic facts known to anyone that has worked in convention arrangement in the real world, the key issue is FREE ROOMS.
When you reserve a block of rooms for an event (any event: your wedding, etc), part of the negotiation is how many (and also, how luxurious) FREE ROOMS will be provided to the organizer, and what percentage of "fill" for the reserved block is required to get those FREE ROOMS.
So: it is in the interest of the WTS to fill the reserved blocks, to insure that the WTS Bethel senior staffers, GB members, etc. get their FREE ROOMS. That is why they insist everyone only call the hotels on the list, and identify that they want the JW block of rooms. If the blocks aren't filled to some pre-agreed-upon percentage level, then WTS does not get the FREE ROOMS.
This also explains why they continue to insist on this, year after year. If you take rooms "outside the arrangement" at either a hotel on the list, or one that is not on the list), the hotel(s) will figure it out, and next year decide they don't have to negotiate and offer the FREE ROOMS incentive. So the hotel doesn't negotiate the following year, and the FREE ROOMS disappear.
And we can't have WTS actually pay money for the hotel rooms for their senior staffers -- people that have taken a vow of poverty, and so can't afford it themselves. No, the WTS likes to keep the money flowing in one direction only: towards itself.
The hotel arrangement is about FREE ROOMS, not about saving money for the Rank & File.
