it's a good board with alot of really good info but it's kinda hard to break into.
it's like they don't want to invest too much in you till they know you're going to stick around.

tolerance : the capacity for or practice of recognizing and respecting the opinions, practices, behavior or beliefs of others.. sadly, there is a double standard on this board practiced by many.
i have had a spat with stinky pantz about tolerance and we have both apologized.
this defintion is here for the others who think that tolerance is something that only christians don't have much of!
All in all a good post DJ, and I admit that in some instances I fall short in this regard.
I admit that I am not tolerant of all practices or behaviors or beliefs That would only leave me tolerant of opinions....yet, even then I am only partly tolerant. I tolerate the fact that everyone is entilted to an opinion, so I can say that I recognize the right to one's opinion on all matters. Yet, I fall short again.....because I do not respect all opinions. Some opinions are not worthy of respect yet I am tolerant to the fact that is a person's right to have an opinion.
There is nothing wrong with that. Some opinions should NOT be tolerated. Should Osama bin Laden's opinion that the United States and all it's citizens be annihilated whenever possible be condoned because he has a right to that belief?
Obviously not.
That is why I have such difficulty in being tolerant of certain individual's opinions when it comes to religion. So often religious fundamentalists spout off rhetoric on how they want you to have an open mind about their beliefs, and when you rationally debunk their faith-based theories with logic, you are branded as intolerant or argumentative. The Jehovah's Witnesses are a prime example of that. Do they have a right to believe as they wish? Certainly. Do I think that right is superceded when their beliefs endanger innocent people (blood doctrine, pedophilia) or infringe on the rights of others in examples such as invasion of privacy or not respecting someone's wishes that they not be called on at their door ? Absolutely.
More importantly than that, religion is so often the root cause behind atrocities. Throughout history, religion has been the motivating factor for wars and death. From the Spanish Inquisition, the Holy Crusades, the witchhunts, the Catholic conversion of Indians in the United States, the Palestinian intifadeh in Israel, and the so-called righteous jihad of Al-Qaeda and other Muslim fundamentalist zealots against Western society... tens, even hundreds of millions have died.
Am I tolerant of all opinions? No. Should I be? No, not when those beliefs encourage behavior which incites heinous acts against society.
Do I respect all opinions? No. Some people on this board have absolutely ludicrous beliefs. (an excellent example is AGuest, who believes God whispers things into her ear as though she is divinely chosen to be his mouthpiece, and has had visions that God resembles a dragon)
It is my inherent right NOT to respect all opinions or be tolerant of all others.
Just my 2 cents. I needed to vent on this topic, as I am sure some here (like azaria) feel I am intolerant and a hypocrite for some reason. But honestly? I could care less what others think of me. Life is not about satisfying other individual's opinions of you. It is about being happy with yourself.
Good thread.
was just wondering if you listen to music while you post here.
that inspires me to say just about anything.
music is so good.. you have already made 40 post(s) in the last 1 day(s) out of your limit of 40..
Sometimes I listen to the radio or a CD.
Music can have such a profound influence on your mood.
did you ever drink a zombie?
zombie recipe.

Oh right, you guys were talking about the alcoholic drink.
< innocent look >
now, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!
perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.
now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.
Damn I hit submit too soon.
The point is that Dumb Ass Dubya gets on the platform and delivers a Presidential speech declaring that Hussein should be removed for being a vicious dictator, and Bush cites reasons and scenarios that the United States itself is guilty of.
The United States government is a bully... PERIOD.
Do I personally believe that Hussein needed to be removed? Yes. Do I think the explanation that the United States government is giving the public is legitimate? No. Let us not forget that the Persian Gulf War embarrassed our current President's father who marched to Baghdad and stopped, and in all likelihood that action prevented his re-election.
Or that Hussein attempted to assassinate our sitting president's father.
Or that there is an overwhelming amount of money to be made in oil contracts, and we now see evidence that underhanded dealings are taking place such as the scenario with Halliburton.
If the United States feels the need to play global supercop and go removing tyrannical dictators.. why stop with Hussein? If anythin he should have been farther down the list. North Korea is FAR more advanced in developing nuclear weapons, and their missiles are within striking range of the western United States. Some will argue that diplomacy works better with Pyongang. However the Bush Administration feels the need to declare war and remove Hussein based on the notion that he possesses weapons of mass destruction that no one has found when North Korea is KNOWN to manufacture them?
Or what about Tehran? Iran is a much larger opponent than Iraq. Bush even took the time to list them on his "Axis of Evil" in his now infamous Presidential Address. Why is nothing being done there?
Bush is picking and choosing his fights, and because he is the Chief Executive and Saddam Hussein inadvertently humiliated his father and tried to kill him, Dubya wanted Hussein's head on a plate.
Let's be real.
now, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!

Give me a frickin' break. When I say he was the worst of the worst, I don't mean he was literally the human being with the most evil intent who has ever lived. How the hell would I measure that? He was indeed right up there with any other evil despot, Hitler, Pol Pot, et al included. If anything because he is now, he is worse. This not midevial history, this 2003. Good lord people, wouldn't it be nice if we didn't limit this to just a numbers game? Maybe that way we can save some lives in the future before the numbers get up into the two-three million plus range.
No need to get condescending and snippy with your remarks Six. I was merely pointing out that if you look into history, Saddam Hussein is nowhere near as bad as others. Could he have been? Potentially. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. One cannot speculate, we should only address facts.
If you also consider that he did allow Christian people into his country... whereas other fundamentalist Muslim nations such as Iran and the shahs forbid it.
Or how about the accusations the Hussein be removed for using chemical weapons on his own people? Is not the United States government guilty of this? No one seems to remember the Tuskegee Incident (in which African-American United States citizens were injected with syphilis to determine the effects, and this is in the 20th century) or Agent Orange in Vietnam.
Or what about removing Hussein from power based on the premise that he was aspiring for nuclear weapons? The ONLY country in history to ever use nuclear weapons is the United States of America when bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The nation with the largest stockpile on earth is the United States. However most Americans have difficulty in remembering history when it shows America's hypocrisies and actions in a bad light. Double-standard? You bet ya. Hypocritical? Sounds like it to me.
Thusfar, no weapons of mass destruction have been found. The fact remains that the justification for this war was solely that. If someone had the military might and invaded the United States because they may possess weapons but they are never found.. would everyone object?
Have an unbiased look at matters and view things with an even administration of justice and you will see the hypocrisy here.
yea, i did something i tought i'd never do.
i finally threw most of my jw hard cover books away.
i must have had about 50 jw books laying there on the floor in the closet.
. It's all in good fun.
I know. I am just a smartass and being sarcastic right back at ya.
You should come over to Oz and see how cool us Aussies girl are.
I'd enjoy that. Too bad I live on the other side of the planet. One can wonder and hope though for sometime in the future eh?
this will no doubt get buried in a thread bob posted this in re: u.n. /watchtower fellowship:.
>> i just got a xerox of the following letter on thursday night.
the recipient is a friend of mine who is still technically an active jw.

LOL so true! Under the premise of "theocratic warfare", Jehovah's Witnesses will lie to anyone's face so long as it helps preserve the image of the Watchtower Society entity.
Your post made me laugh, I can only imagine the naive Dubs jumping into a river when they realize they have dedicated so many years of their lives to a lie.
sf - Good post. I enjoyed it.

I agree Prisca, as I stated at the beginning of this thread, some people feel a sense of relief by ridding themselves of JW literarure in a sense a ritual to extricate the plague from their lives. However, all too often sometime later they regret having acted in haste, because that literature proves valuable in exposing the Watchtower Society as two-faced liars who contradict themselves in doctrine time and again. Not to mention even if you do not wish to keep the books for your own records and reseach, auctioning them or selling them can be a valuable enterprise because some articles go for a pretty penny.
There, I posted back on the relevant topic. Happy now?
this past week was really crappy.
tuesday was a disaster... literally - with a water pipe bursting, and flooding quite a bit of my mobile home.
i am now sitting in my office, in a room with floors that resemble a roller coaster ride.
Little things can mean so much sometimes can't they?
Happy you had something to raise your spirits.
