I know that even when I was still in, I leaned pretty far to the left. I never felt comfortable with the Watchtowers views on women or homosexuals, and even though I was supposedly "neutral" during the 2016 election, I was very much rooting for Bernie Sanders before the primaries ended, and then very much against Donald Trump before he took office.

JWs - Liberals or Conservatives?
by neat blue dog inwhere they stand is a strange mixture.
yes, they don't agree with abortion and homosexuality, they believe in the bible and wear skirts and ties to church .
but in many ways they're liberal.

Don't cave to their illogical demand that you sacrifice your best chance in life to get a college education. In my opinion college is a wonderful experience in and of itself that will change you for the better if you let it. I know for me personally it expanded my ambition, compassion, empathy, and capacity for logical thought, all on top of increasing the knowledge I have in my desired field.
Do your best to ignore their arrogance that leads them to think they have right to tell you what to do with your own life, because in the end you have to live with results of those decisions, not them.

Are We In A Computer Simulation?
by Brokeback Watchtower inelon musk believes we are and he's a pretty smart guy that runs spacex, a lot black hole physics may seem to present the 3 dimentional space as a hologram of a 2 dimentional sphere.. i think this is open for serious debate.
what are the pros and cons?.
-
Saethydd
If I recall the interviews correctly, Elon didn't say we are in a computer simulation, rather he said he considers it to be statistically more probable than not that our reality is some sort of computer simulation based on the idea that the capability of our own technology is increasing at such a rate that it could someday reach the point of creating a simulation that is indistinguishable from "reality."
That is perhaps a subtle distinction, but I think it is an important one.

We missed you at the meetings...
by punkofnice inhow many times have you heard that trope?.
i found it more irritating than a dose of farmers on the bum.
i've even said it when i was a brainwashed jobo drone.

I guess one nice side effect of being officially out of the religion is not having to deal with this particular kind of bullshit.

When God takes a day off!
by eyeuse2badub init’s really a bitch when god takes a day off.
he’s supposed to be watching over all things-except when he doesn’t and he can control any situation-except when he doesn’t.. so he gets all the credit for the good things that are and that happen due to his “dynamic energy”.
it must be tiring because he obviously takes days off.

I was homeschooled for the last 6 years of my primary education. I'm regularly, on the President's List at the community college I'm attending before I transfer to a University to study Electrical Engineering.
However, I believe this is despite my homeschooling, not because of it. My parents didn't do much to improve or accelerate my learning, in fact, it was basically my responsibility to teach myself and prepare my own lessons in that time period. My mother did try to use field service as a "class," one which I didn't much enjoy.
For my high school years, I was given a Penn Foster Curriculum which was incredibly simplistic and didn't challenge me at all. When I did finally start college (of my own initiative and without much help from my parents) I had a lot of acclimating to do. The first thing I had to work on was my math skills, my arithmetic was nearly flawless (which I had learned well in public school), but the algebra that I attempted to teach myself was severely lacking for any college-level course, so I had to go back and relearn most of it
Two years later I'm finally at the upper levels of Calculus and will soon move to Differential Equations. I'm on track to achieve my goals now, but homeschooling definitely set me back.

"The battle for your mind" july 17 WT
by Bad_Wolf inthis is such a strange article.
https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2017488.
notice the parts about one won't get truth if it's spoon fed.
-
Saethydd
I especially love this line.
Use your God-given thinking abilities and power of reason to make the truth your own.
Unless, of course, those "thinking abilities and power of reason" lead one to the conclusion that the writers of the Watchtower don't have the "Truth."

Will Watchtower target the inactive?
by ToesUp inif watchtower has no reason to df ones.
they have just become inactive.
do you all think wt will begin a witch hunt (df'ing) for these inactive ones?
-
Saethydd
Well I mean in a way they do go on the hunt for inactive ones, it's called "shepherding visits." As the policy currently stands they don't try to DF an inactive on so long as they aren't seen by the community as a Jehovah's Witness. I suppose it's possible they could change their stance on this in the future though.

I shudder to think of how my poor nephews are going to have these cartoons force-fed to them constantly while they're growing up, I know my mother went through most of them pretty much every time she took care of my sisters little boy.

My Mothers Ultimate Rejection

i found this on her desk.

Pardon my language, but that is one fucked up will. Even the Watchtower doesn't tell people to bar disfellowshipped family members from funerals.
