It's really not too easy to just click off. I tried to do this for years. On the outside everything was just fine, but there were the "thoughts", the knowledge, the knowing. Once you begin to see what really is, it's almost impossible to totally shut off ever again.

waiting, while I agree that the Society does not cause these problems, the prevailing attitude within the Society does tend to exacerbate them.
I know that things have loosened up as far as seeking psychiatric help is concerned, and this is good. It used to be that any form of mental health therapy was straight from Satan and was strongly discouraged, if not forbidden.
A lot of people with problems are drawn to a religion such as the JW's where one needs only to "wait on Jehovah" and all one's problems will miraculously disappear. All one needs to do is to be a "good Witness" and Jehovah will make everything fine.
Certainly many people do experience a remission of sorts when they get totally involved with meetings and service, but then there is the emotional crash when they realize that whatever they do, it's not enough.
The Society is certainly not to blame for these unrealistic expectations. However, as I've stated before, elders need to have some sort of basic psychological education so that they might be able to recognize a person's symptoms and recommend professional help.
Doing more in service is not sufficient to handle severe psychological problems.
i'm looking for a discussion board, or mailing list or something that's a little different than this.
i've been checking around and haven't been able to find just the right flavor.
this isn't too bad but in some ways it's just a more civil version of h2o.
I don't think any board is free of negativity totally. Even when things are calm most of time, there will always be some upheaval from time to time.
You might check out www.Support4xjws.org. There's a good discussion board there. Also, www.Observer.org has several discussion boards...but they've been pretty quiet lately.

Fall is a great time in Newport. Most of the tourists have left, but there's still plenty of life left in the city. Our timeshare week is in the late Fall to early Spring period.
I love going there close to Christmas time. All the shops are decorated so beautifully. We've gone there in February, which is still a nice time...especially to view the ocean (I just love the look of the ocean in Winter)....but it is COLD then!!
Narragansett beer is still around? For some reason I thought they had gone out of business.
By all means, let me know when you're out this way. Bring carrots for the Red Horse!!

Oh, ye of minimal gustatory experience. Chorico and linguica are two types of Portugese sausage. Chorico is VERY spicy, whereas linguica is spicy, but relatively mild....then there's Polish Kielbasa, which is also a type of sausage that is on the bottom rung of spicy.
Now, when you're in Rhode Island, be sure to order a stuffie, a grinder, and a coffee cabinet.
The grinder is known elsewhere as a submarine sandwich, or hoagie. The coffee cabinet is a frappe....made with ice cream.
If you order a milk shake in Rhode Island, you will get milk with flavored syrup. If you order a milk shake pretty much anywhere else, you will get milk with ice cream.
After downing your excellent lunch, you might want to get a drink from the bubbler (water fountain). You can imagine the amused looks I got when I attended an assembly in Seattle and asked where the bubbler was....everyone thought I was insane. But, then again, the conversation out there tended to revolve around logging trucks. Interesting subject, to be sure....but after three hours of conversing about logging trucks you begin to wish someone would implode.
Seven....Newport? Really? It's a beautiful city. We have a timeshare there right on the harbor, but we haven't been able to use it for awhile since we have no one to take care of the horses. You must have been down Ocean Drive. I think that's one of the most beautiful spots in RI.
If you ever get out this way again, perhaps we could grab a cup of coffee.

Frenchy, here in RI we have a cartoonist, Don Bousquet (a Frenchman, no less) who has made his living drawing cartoons about quahogs and those who love them. He's published quite a few books...sort of like The Far Side with bivalves.
my wife's congregation recently bought some land to build a new kh on it but then signed over the ownership to an offshore company controlled by the wtb&ts.
they were told that it would make it harder to 'grab' when 'the persecution begins'.. has anyone else heard anything like this?.

Dubby, According to the Society - elders are not supposed to inform their wives" on private congregational matters." I would think this would pertain to cong. money matters. You're not suggesting that elders don't follow this teaching, are you?

Yep, a stuffie and a coffee cabinet....yum!
A quahog is a large, hardshell clam. A stuffie is pretty much stuffing made with quahogs, various spices, and sometimes some chorico or linguica, then piled onto the empty quahog shell and baked.....excellent!
