The points expressed here were my points exactly in the previous thread.

Friend emphasized the fact that the WTBTS did nothing illegal and that they made a sound business decision, which is indisputable.

I highly doubt that stumbling any of the brothers has EVER mattered to the WTBTS. How many have stumbled due to all of the flip-flops of doctrine over the years? I'm sure the number is not small.

I also doubt that the WTBTS cares a whit about any of the "sheep" it purports to shepherd. Once they get the fleece, the sheep can fall off a cliff for all they care. As long as there are untapped areas to obtain new sheep, the spiritual deaths of former flock members do not matter.

Bloodguilty? Only if their prophecies turn out to be true and all of these lapsed members are actually condemned to death at Armageddon. Implied bloodguilt, surely, since these lost sheep, by and large, do feel that they are now condemned to death....at least for some amount of time.

At the very least, they are guilty of mental torture of their members due to the trememdous amount of neuroses they engender during their incarceration within the walls of the Watchtower.

jane saw that last night what a dog of a flick....friday the 13th 2,3,4,5,6,7...the howling 1,2,3,4,5,6.....elm street 2,3,4,5,6....porky's 1,2,3 screwballs 1,2,3,4,5...batman forever the one with arnold in it anyway, munchies, ndependence day, star wars special edition...cant believe i payed money to see a few nice special effects, any pauly shore movie...well almost?, godzilla..haven't seen it yet but it'd have to be bad, ummmm....rambo 3...the list goes on!

Meeting together, sharing thoughts, discussing points.....in fact, is that not exactly what we're doing here?

If we were all within commuting distance of one another, would we not find it interesting and mutually beneficial to assemble together and share these same points?

I highly doubt that the early congregations were set up the way that organized religion is today. Distance alone would preclude that.

I also doubt that any organized religion today can come anywhere close to what the Christian congregations orginally were set up to be. Today they are more like beaurocracies than anything else, and the main issue in most groups is control.

The entire concept of worship gets lost in the shuffle to support the organization (and I'm not referring solely to the WTBTS here).

I suppose my question boils down to: Can you be a Christian apart from the group?

I think the question needs to be reworded. Can you be a Christian in spite of the group?

Once religion gets organized and establishes rules, it frequently seems that the basic tenet of Christianity gets lost in the shuffle.

Rather than establishing a relationship with God and Jesus, the members are urged to look to the "church" so that they can approach God properly.

The voting issue?

now last year the society came out with an article on voting that completly confused everyone.

many jw's thought they could vote, but from what i hear the c.o.

's have been telling them nothing has changed.

Yes, all the recent "changes" are solely to look better in the eyes of the world.

Most of the JW's you speak to think this is absolutely wonderful. Nothing has changed other than the perception of the WTBTS by the world and the governments.

The label of "cult" is one that the WTBTS is studiously trying to avoid. Switching the onus to the individual is a very effective way of dealing with it. They can then honestly say that their members are not forbidden to do anything (vote, take blood, join the military, etc.) but in doing so the members "choose" to disassociate themselves.

At one point in time it was a matter of pride to be part of an organization that would stand up for what it believed, no matter what the consequences. Now it's pathetic to see the GB skulking around currying favor from those it once claimed to despise.

We women.....being such goddesses and all.... simply don't get it. Probably because we have to clean up so much of it. LOL

The worst one ever is one for which I can't even remember the title. It was a Sci-fi pic. One of the sponsors was Trissi Sports, so the spaceship was named the Trissi, and all the crew members wore jumpsuits with the Trissi logo on them.

You could see the string on the "spaceship" when it "took off" or "landed". The alien hordes consisted of nine guys wearing silver fright wigs who ran back and forth across the set so that it seemed like multiple bands of alien raiders.

It was so bad you just had to sit through the whole thing to see what other ridiculous thing they would come up with.

Demon-possessed inanimate objects

for years i heard stories that certain items in the home could be demon-possessed.

i was told to be careful of items bought at garage sales because we didn't know their origin, or who or what they were used for.. did we own a ouija board before becoming a witness?

could it be that items like these were creating misfortune?

My husband and I did have one experience with something like this while we were engaged.

We had gone to visit one of his cousins who was into a lot of occult stuff. She gave my husband a gift of British Sterling aftershave and cologne.

I went to pick my then fiance up the next day after work, and I found him walking sideways down the street. He was headed towards the chiropractor's office. He told me that he had gotten an adjustment earlier that day, but something went out of place, and he couldn't walk straight...only sideways.

In the office while I waited for him, I started getting some rather large nervous tics, with my head and arms spasming. I remember thinking that it was REALLY a very stressful day, and my nerves must have been strained more than I realized.

Since my fiance had an appointment later that evening with his regular doctor also, we stopped at a fast-food place to get something to eat.

By this time, my arm was jerking around so badly that I felt embarrassed about going in, so I waited in the car.

Later, at the doctor's office, I put all my concentration into keeping my arms still...I felt like an idiot. As I was sitting there willing myself to be still, I felt the pinkie finger of my right hand start to rotate in large circles. It felt as if someone was pulling it...hard. I clamped my left hand over my right to hide the weird rotations, and thought I must be going insane.

Then, my fiance mentioned the visit to his cousin and said that he really didn't want to go back there to visit....he had felt very uncomfortable there because of some of the things she was involved with.

At that point I remembered the gift. I suggested that after the doctor's visit we get it and take it to the KH and ask for the brothers' help.

As my fiance brought the gift set out to the car, my right arm starting flailing around widely, and banging against the windshield. We tried to make it to the KH, but it finally became so weird that I stopped near some woods, and my fiance took the gift set and flung it as far as he could. As soon as the item was thrown away, all of the jerking and flailing stopped.

Demons? I don't know.....but it was certainly negative energy of some sort.
