how much of what i injest for the start of my day is controlled by the culture i live in and the habits i have come to consider "normal"?
Grits. Had some really horrible grits at an assembly once....they tasted like someone predigested them, then burnt them.
Once at a hotel while at a computer convention, however, they served grits with honey. They were WONDERFUL.
We don't generally get grits here. We do have Jonnycakes, though....same ingredients....different style.
this has been brought up from time to time in other posts relative to other arguments but i thought it deserved its own thread.. the first century christians formed congregations.
there is no debate about this.
that these congregations were not entities unto themsleves is attested to by the travels and subsequent letters of the apostle paul.
I used to feel that gathering together was extremely important. No matter how I felt about the unloving nature of the congregation, I considered it extremely important to continue in fellowship.
I finally got to the point, however, where I had to admit to myself that the gathering together was not upbuilding in any sense. In fact, it was only serving to destroy my spirituality.
I have been inactive as far as meetings are concerned for some time. However, I have continued to associate with those who value a relationship with God, whether JW's or others. This type of "gathering together" serves to upbuild, and I seek it out.

My problem is that I simply don't have sufficient time to read everything I want to.
I know I subscribe to way too many magazines, but there's always something out there that I find intriguing. And books....well, I keep the mailman busy with stuff from Amazon and my book clubs.
I guess I'm making up for lost time. I want to sample a little bit of everything.

in various threads on this forum the term is used as if everyone understands what it means and there is no fuzzy edges.. i wonder if all here assume that only those that follow "jesus" are to be considered "christian"?.

I've also come to the conclusion that there is not just one proper way to approach God.
In a previous post I mentioned the "narrow road" and expressed the thought that perhaps that road was being walked by people who were truly spiritual and pleasing to God, rather than adherents of any particular faith.
As far as the question of the meaning of the word "Christian" is concerned, technically it would be those who believe in Jesus Christ. However, I find myself using the term to apply to those of whatever faith who espouse the principles taught by Jesus.

for all of you who are thinking about da or df, my advice is don't do it.
you are falling into a trap that the wt has set for any who disagree with them.
wouldn't it be much more productive if everyone who left, held on to their status even if they didn't go to the hall and exposed some of the bull****t ?.
I definitely agree with these points. However, as I mentioned in my previous post, some people really NEED the closure that a DA letter brings.
It is true, though, that as long as the lines of communication are kept open, the opportunity remains to help others.

i accepted eagerly the teachings of the watchower bible and tract society over the last 7 years.
i have been a dedicated pioneer for four of those years.
