Frozen2018, Those are lovely. I personally have been so wrapped up watching the news about Covid , navigating all the changes of life due to the pandemic I totally neglected to sooth myself with good news. I saw those two vids on the 'Goodnews network' (a news network with only good news) no politics, no religion. It brought tears to my eyes, which is surprising since I'm supposed to only have a cold dead black heart. lol
I just found this old horse commercial .Super cute!

Legal Concerns About "Zoom" Meetings!
by Atlantis inthis whole "zoom" thing has got me wondering whether some of it is legal or not.
if a person has to dress up for a zoom meeting the way the watchtower dictates, doesn't this really go "beyond" cult?.
even the cults who committed mass suicide were able to dress the way they wanted for their meetings.

And if an elder takes down notes because a JW wears jeans in his own home for a Zoom meeting, doesn't this border-line on breaking the Data Protection Laws?
No. And if it did how in the world would you make a case of it. Zooms legal terms of agreement when you use their services, free them of any liability.
An elder can write what he wants...You can dress how you want. In turn, they can also df/ shun/ call you spiritually weak/counsel you/ or whatever strikes their fancy so long you remain a member.

Sister Not Sure If She Is 144 000 or Great Crowd
by Awake at last ini haven’t posted here for years as i have now moved on and am satisfied with the choice i have made to leave watchtower.
however in light of the coronavirus and people in australia and other countries being asked to stay at home i became concerned for a witness sister who lives in melbourne alone who is 88 years old.
today i gave her a call as i don’t trust the local witnesses to care for her.

notsure- yes it is strange.... I understood what you meant. I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't. Sorry.
I was more wanting to hopefully off set someone who might read the post but not really consider the angles and comment about how they should wake her up not realizing shes 88.

notsurewheretogo- Shes flippin 88! Would you condemn her to the last of life trying to loosen her cognitive dissonance? She could die from the stress of it you know! In my mind that would make me a murderer.
It is the right thing to do in this circumstance given the info.
Example- My uncles father was hallucinating in the days before he passed away in the hospital. He saw (thought he saw) a spider on the wall, his son with tears in his eyes went to the wall and smacked it and said 'I got it dad, its gone." His dad calmed back down. Did the son lie? Yes! Under the circumstances that was the right thing to do.

I like what Pete Zahut said-JWs love to think of Jehovah as a reader of hearts. It brings them comfort to think that no matter what, he knows their true motive and understands their human frailties.
Tell her that Jehovah undoubtedly understands how conflicted she is and undoubtedly appreciates her taking the matter seriously and being respectful enough to withhold from partaking from the emblems when she’s not all together sure.
& TTWSYF's It's great that you have even reached out to this lonely elderly woman. Just giving her your time is showing great love.
I think considering her age simply telling her that jehovah is the reader of hearts , combined with just listening to her (giving her your time) will do wonders. I would ask about other things that are important to her or things she likes. Make idol chit chat. Let her know that your there for her if she needs someone to talk to. That will do wonders.
My Great Grandmother was pulled into the borg when she was 75 by her daughter. She got baptized and then disfellowshiped at 78, for being a 'slut'. LMAO.(actually not very funny) She had Alzheimer's and Dementia and would frequently have guys over to help her with fixing things. So someone saw it and turned her in. Dfed, as she got violent(dementia) and was unrepentant(she did nothing wrong). And it made the old age declining mental health problems way worse. I loath those probably now dead elders and my bio fam for doing that to her. I spent lots of time with her even when she was dfd and she simply adored the company. And I enjoyed listening to what she shared about her life.
My point to that is at her age 88, I would let her lead the conversation and just be there with a listening ear. She's lonely, a little hurt and scared. Just needs a person to talk to. Keep it up beat as possible. In this case I wouldn't bring up anything contrary to her beliefs. Sometimes the greater sacrifice or way to show love is keeping our mouth shut when we want to scream. I feel for her.And for you.
Good luck.

Update....Not That Anyone Cares
by 1234 inthis isn't a poor me thread.....just what is going on here in my small world.. since both my son and me own tour companies, when the lock down happened three weeks ago our businesses literally died over night.
we both depended on the tourist that come to phoenix and sedona, so that all went away as people stop taking vacations.
all future tours have been cancelled.. my son moved in with me two days ago, much to chagrin of his jehovah's witness mother.

I understand the feeling and situation. I was there and am swiftly headed back. Not to derail your post by any means.....Maybe it will make you feel better, idk.
When the 2008 recession hit I lost a land deal I had 10,000 invested in plus labor @ min wage (as a low ball figure to work with) easily another 10,000.
I too had my own business, a luxury service that dried up. Not to mention I worked at night two different restaurants alternating days.
In one week the land deal gone, my business, and both my other jobs.
Many businesses just closed. Like now. I was really connected in the art scene at the time and was quite the net worker. So I rounded up over 100 artist and threw 3 of the largest private silent auctions this area ever had, to help save two iconic and cornerstone businesses in town. It raised enough money to keep them both afloat for the next year. I housed several people and couples with kids for a while. Free no strings attached ever.
The crap icing on the cake was when I needed the help (literally a place to park my truck and camper) I was turned down by the very people I helped with housing. That drove the final nail in my coffin and I went crazy. Literally. The way I saw supposed friends back stab each other and me made me shut off. I probably will never fully trust another human again. Nor will I help one damn business stay afloat. I learned my lesson. I'll keep my eyes out for decent beings I just wont bank on it.
I survived because, well honestly I don't know how I did. I moved in the mountains. I was already living off the grid. It was a posh off the grid setting. Solar, backup deepcell batteries, generator, grey water system, fresh water delivered, propane for cooking, wood stove and internet due to the only "on the grid thing" I had a phone line. Oh and cell phone. (before smart phones). So I had some off grid experience just not Totally Off. So I moved deep in the mountains and just came in to town when I had a doc appointment and got groceries then. Man was I broken. And stayed that way for long time. Until recently, now this.
I plan on moving back into the mountains shortly. I don't want to but I may not have many options. Its the only skill that I have that others or at least 99% of people cant take from me, mimic or even actually do with out freaking out a few days in. I'm already scoping the next years worth of spots. The only real reason I have a storage is to keep those 'mountain supplies' just in case.Glad I didn't listen to people telling me that I don't need that stuff. Not sure about surviving this one but its more the initial shock for the first couple weeks in the mountains. Once that part is over it goes more smoothly. Also I expect I'll have at least some consulting work from my "Off the grid" consulting business. No guarantees.
Again, I didn't mean nor was it my intention to derail your post.
I just wanted you to know if I could go through that alone. You can get through this.
__________
Stan-how can you be expected to pay alimoney if you have no cash or income ? half of nothing--is nothing.
The states will stop at nothing. They don't care AT.ALL. It will just rack up if not paid. Unless the person receiving it is really understanding and commits to going back to court to amend it. It happens but not likely. Its a broken system. Unfair and unjust.
____________
New Boy/ Keith- I made some really crappy financial decisions last year when I was in full on grief mode. In hindsight I have no regrets barring one (which I refuse to discuss).
I like that Chinese proverb.
I like this one too- -“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
The only thing I really wanted from life anyway, was adventure. Wish granted! lol

It has the potential to get really crazy. In the USA 1/3 or more of families rent. 1/3 or more of Americans just lost their jobs. (nearing 100,000,000) so far. 1 hundred million. And many more who's hours got cut drastically.
Though there are eviction freezes in place in many states already. There are so many landlords who will evict anyway.
Yesterday, one of the local grocery stores I was at I got to talking to the manager and he was saying that many people are really afraid there will be ciaos and violence come rent time.
Two weeks ago when the state announced an eviction freeze the local big wig realtors office that owns the majority of rentals here sent out a letter and post it online to all their tenants saying that they will evict even if you have lost your job. There was such immediate public blow back that they retracted it the next day.(Dispite the fact the first couple round of bailouts will go first to them since they are an LLC.)
Many private home owners with rentals have said they will not honor the states no evict temporary law.
The court house is near closed anyway and could not handle a mass evict anyway. So on just the renting front that will be, scary, quite frankly.
I know no one wants to think about stuff like that, I certainly don't want to inject fear or panic, but its things people are talking about more and more as April nears.
We wont really know for sure until nearing mid April.

Cabin fever? I have that now and I was just coming out of my shell for the first time in years. Go figure.
I'm sure many have cabin fever right now.
What is sucking for me is that I have a friend that I started to hang out with. He and his wife are total social butterflies he hates being stuck in (I don't blame him). I happened to be in the same vicinity of someone telling him to stop visiting with every Tom, Dick and Harry and showing up to peoples houses as if nothing in the world is going on. It hurt his feeling pretty bad. But he really needed to hear it. Sucks for me cause he'd become my romping bud to go up into the mountains, rivers beaches ect, and find stuff to make or just explore.
