i've been reading this forum page for about a year.

at first i thought it was a meeting place for practicing jw's but after reading many posts found that most people here have been hurt or don't see things eye to eye with the wt org.

i am not a jw but i have been associating with them for about 3 yrs.

Hi Peacepipe, its refreshing to read your honesty about this board -
I am new too and I must say that this board has helped me regain my perspectice in life in conjunction in conjunction with being an ex-JW. The one thing that stands out above anything else is that once you're one of JW's, there is no honourable way out, no matter how honourable you yourself may be...That is the inherent freedom of choice one cannot have while being a JW. That is one of the reasons I left as an elder and once I left I realized for the first time that I was a human being again....This may sound strange but is ohh so true: freedom of choice..., freedom to breathe...., freedom to think..., freedom to love.
Peacepipe, if you are happy by remaining in the "truth" whether you're baptized or not, is your and only your decision; but you must know also that whenever you are baptized there is no way out; the door is shut behind you and if you ever try to leave for whatever noble or proper reason, you will find out how coldhearted these JW's will become, in fact they will treat you as if you have died.....

Sorry peacepipe, I do not want to discourage you, but I just wanted to share some of my true feelings....

after reading the book "crisis of conscience", i have now more than ever convinced that the jw's org is extremely similar to how the pharisees were "ruling" immediately prior to jesus' days on the earth.. this book is written in a completely unbiased fashion yet showing all the facts and irregularities being perpretrated from the top hierarchy.

it was portrayed by raymond franz in a extremely balanced manner for which i thank him profusely!!

Proplog2, I was quite amazed by your blanket statement that you take exception to Ray Franz as he profited from his endeavours (whatever that may be) by presumingly having written successful books following his departure from one of the places of the hierarchy...
I am a little bit puzzled by your rogue remark, which I personally think reeks of jealousy and an inability to understand one man's viewpoint in its relevant setting....

To add to my comments about the absolute frankness and impartiality of Ray Franz is summed up by Dr. Ingemar Linden from Sweden when he said that "a common fault with authors who feel they have to disclose errors - real or imagined - within a movement they later have been forced to break with, are feelings of hatred and bitterness. You will find little of this in 'Crisis of Conscience'. To the contrary, the calm, objective tone awakens respect and admiration."

Thanks Ozzie for your post - I agree that most JW's as individuals are intrinsically good and humble people, however it is the continued control and manipulation of their "hierarchy" which makes that Organization highly suspect, in fact very similar as the Pharisees used to run theirs. True, Raymond Franz was part of that hierarchy once, but he did not sympathize with some of the directives of this dogmatic leadership, in fact he tried to amend, correct and enlight the Borg with scriptural reasonings from within the organization. Ray always took the Scriptures as the ultimate authority coupled with compassion for the individual witness rather than showing only regard for the "integrity" of the Borg by saving face because they were wrong in their "interpretations" of so many doctrines.
If Ray would have remained with the Borg then he would have similarly been guilty of complicity and "apostasy".

how WT directions can destroy lives

it is true that many persons have been disfellowshipped wrongly, but what is more disturbing is how a person's life could be so totally destroyed.

this reminds me of an incident that happened some years ago where a sister was disfellowshipped for this reason:.

she found out that her witness husband had been having sex with an animal.

She found out that her witness husband had been having sex with an animal. She reported this to the elders and told them that she could not stay with such a man anymore in all fairness.
The Society at the time ruled that bestiality was not viewed as adultery so the woman had no right to leave her husband by divorcing him. She did divorce him anyways and some time after she married another man for which she was disfellowshipped.
Some years after the Society changed their view by ruling that bestiality is now also grouped as adultery or fornication and subsequently any marriage mates can thus divorce their spouses if they so wished.
The disfellowshipped sister was so discouraged and shaked by the earlier decision to cast her off that she left the Organization. Yet years later the Society changed their stand on this issue and now this same sister would not have been disfellowshipped for the course of action she undertook at an earlier stage...
Now, would this ex-sister be re-instated in her absentia in the congregation or would she be viewed as a "wicked" person for the rest of her natural life so long as she doesn't return back to the fold????
What would be the right thing the Society should do? Of course restore her credibility and re-instate her even as an ex-sister, for that would be the loving thing to do. Of course not..the Society's thinking is to stay loyal to God's organization and follow the letter of the law (rule) and put as secondary the life of a person...

This is just an example of how much power they wield over innocent lives.

How many brothers or sisters have been disfellowshipped because they went to the authorities (police) reporting the crime of pedophelia on the part of a baptized brother....
Yes, they were disfellowshipped for "pushing ahead", which is against the Society's directive and in so doing they were viewed as wicked rather than the perpetrator of the crime itself...

This reminds me so much of the account of the good Samaritan where both a priest and a Levite completely ignored an injured man, yet the Samaritan did everything he could to help the individual.
The comparison? Well, it seems to me without a shadow of a doubt, that the Samaritan represented a caring and loving class whereas the priest and Levite group illustrated a callous, harsh and cruel hierarchy. I am now more than ever convinced that the mindset of the JW organization points to the direction of the priest/Levite class rather than the Samaritan group! Anything which is outside the bounderies of Witness theology and subsequent behavior, is totally unacceptable, wrong, satanic and the like....
I remember so clearly how often it was that the elders pointed out to me how unhappy I must be since I did not attend the meetings anymore (This was prior to having been df'd), as only in Jehovah's org can you be truly satisfied, whereas in fact the opposite was true in that I increasingly experienced a deliverance from a lifestyle of bondage and mindcontrol to freedom of thought and spirit where I can control my destiny and serve God in a free and unobstructed manner by aiding not only myself to become a well-rounded person but more so to have the capacity and insight to continually assist, help and love others genuinely from the heart......
