Is changing the "truth" / presenting "new light" really so bad?

playing devil's advocate here.... what's the difference between the gb changing bible interpretations compared to parliaments all over the world changing laws?

although the us constitution (=bible) remains untouched, congress passes i don't know how many new laws every year.

and of course people are expected to follow them.

For a witness of jehovah it is important to ask what means "BEING IN THE TRUTH" actually.

when jesus asked "what is truth" this could be understood as hint that human awarness is limited. Human awareness of truth....the new testament teaches that faith and revelation of god himself overcome the limitation and that the way to this truth is a way of relationship between man and god.

Nobody disposes of this truth absolutely, it can be made accessible time and again anew along a way, as pope Francis wrote in La Republicca, 9/12/13

„You ask me further if it is an error or or a sin to believe that an absolut truth does not exist. First I would say that also for a beliefer we would not speak of an "absolut" truth - for a christian the truth is the Love of God to us in Jesus Christ, thus a relationship! and each of us goes from own impulse when he adopts the truth and expresses is: dependent from his culture, history and situation ..... This does not mean that truth is subjective or changeable in contrary. But it offers itself to us as a way and as life. Did not jesus himself say: I am the way, the truth and the life? (translation mine)

Being in the truth - What do JW understand ?

a) being in the state of having all correct understandings of any doctrinal matter ..... certainly not

b) always telling the truth except in cases where Jehovahs name is in danger ... certainly not

c) living in harmony with JehovaH and his organisation, being in the way in the protected group .... more probably

d) accepting the gospel as "truth" ...less? probably

e) jesus is the truth and all words that he said? probably

...

in hebrew bile the word "truth" means something like "Amen"..... reliabilty ~ loyality and the gamut of reality

If this was seen as the key christian teaching than authority of the GB would not be so important but the relationsship with god.

Summary:

The christian "truth" is not

a speculation about philosophical absolut truth
nor an organisational value systems/ legal system/doctrine
nor everlasting new flashes of light or explanations/prophesies from a channel

but simply the relationship of love between God and men in Jesus.

Changing the truth ? If you speak a true statement than thats truth, If you speak a false statement than its not truth, but an error, a lie or a mistake. You can change a mistake, correct the mistake to speak then the truth, but you are not changing the truth but changing the mistake, you are making conformity between the reality and your former false statement.

It turns around conformity to reality, facts and circumstance, purpose, sense as well as to conformity to own awareness experience and conviction = truthfulness.

But there are other meanings of truth in a certain , the conformity towards a matter, a person or a term.

Whether someting is true depends of the value system that is used like in formal semantics, maths...

i found this little jem this morning .

it's a little dated but describes the self-proclaimed jesus of nazareth by the name of a.j miller.

he was raised in the jw religion and was also an elder and pioneer.

Luke 17: 23 jumps up in my mind of course.

People will tell you "There he is" or "Here he is".

What reads like a senseless and banal comment in the gospel - did jesus himself really say these words? - is so easily really possible.

The mind of people is very plastic and ductile. They call the cult "in the truth" but end up in sexual, emotional and financial exploitation.

i haven't seen anything here about the annual meeting just a month away now.

The GB already did much in following this way: Faithfully they built a new HQ in Warwick with The absolute GEM: a Bible exhibition in Warwick that puts Gods name Jehovah in the centerpoint, which will be visitable for tours already in the late spring of 2017.

Let us not listen and waste time with apostates news but follow his way! Cause we know the time is running out and preaching work is soon to be completed. Therefore the efforts and finances have to focused on the essentials. The turkish girl holds her turkish watchtower and will try to preach in Turkey to syrian refugees as we should do also "in the streets of philadelphia".

2017 will be the year of starting tours to Warwick.

Joseph and his generation

so the wt used ex 1:6 to define a generation from the very beginning.

then in the this september broadcast the same person (splain) who spent 20 min with charts to explain a generation, makes a point that joseph and his brothers were very close in age?

(min 4:29).

Does it not dawn on the cart witnesses?

i sat in town recently, right in the window of a nice wee pub.

within minutes i realised that i had a perfect view of a jw cart and the two ridiculously dressed jw's (they have absolutely no individuality at all.

what's more, they all look like they're going to a funeral).

On a business trip in an other town (50.000 population) this week I already had three encounters with literature carts at different frequently passed places in the city.

1. On wednesday afternoon: next to a gallery and next to a kiosk at a main access road to the center (a man in a warm suit and his daugther stood in the hot afternoon-sun protecting their eyes with sunglasses and looking at me when I looked at her sunglasses and thought, what if she would be my wife, would I stand here with her and sweat? Impression: Wow there message must be important, if a cool girl stands here

2. On friday morning on a main road next to a farmers market and a discount store.(a young man and an older woman, they were ignored by me, the young man was dresses good. Impression: how clever these jehovahs are everyone who passes by to buy for the weekend can see the trolls.

3. On friday afternoon: i was downright astonished..again, 2 sisters chatting with each other on the main square in front of the town-hall next to a beautiful lantern, bench and flower-boxes. Next to them a cart. Somehow they and the cart fitted to the scenery. Everybody passed by relaxed and looking for a good place in a bar or restaurant or for an ice.

Impression: As if everything went its way while the earthy circles in ordinarity and as if the peaceful world of promenaders was the eternal blessing of god and as if the Jehovas people are part of the ordinary city life, a kind of socially engaged people filling a hole in the religious emptiness.

Last week I had on encounter in front of a metro in the capital too, of course I would never speak to them. Impression: there was such a rush, not really a place for communication.

So at least I noticed that these carts exists and that Jehovahs people starred a tme when I looked at them.

It seems that It is more acceptable for the Jehovahs to use the trolleys than to stand on the street with the watchtower and awake in the hand alone.

Its hard to say how people "put notice" in general, what they think, because the message has changed a little bit from armageddon to family bible study. They will hardly talk about Armageddon to the promenadors first. Some may even look at it positively, a positive social message of hope in a time with horrible news but not looking behind. I think many people are tolerant towards religious groups althoug not interested.

Other Religions use the Name JEHOVAH too

are jehovah's witnesses really the only religion that promotes and preaches the name of jehovah?.

jw's are always claiming that they are the only religion that preaches and uses the name jehovah, and that is why only they will be saved.

I am not native speaker - confusing "spell" and "pronounce" belongs to my favourite mistakes for many years.

Although we know quite sure what the name means (likely from old paleo-hebrew verb for exist (hawah/ hayah) and therefore we need not pronounce it to honour his name , for me it remains though a mistery how the pronounciation of such an important name could be lost.

Sadly it is difficult for non-linguists to understand the matter.

If I cant explain such an important subject like the name of God in three sentences its useless time consumption.

The Greatest Story Ever Told (or not)
