jeremiah18:5-10
As he stood in the ice cream parlor, Johnny waas perplexed, dismayed, and somewhat irritated. All his life he had only had vanilla ice cream. His parents had never bought anything else, in fact they usually made it themself. Johnny loved ice cream and had never even considered that there were other colors and flavors. He had no desire to find out. His ice cream had been great with everything- pie, cobbler, cake, even by itself.
But now, as he stood in the parlor, he couldn't believe his eyes, so many colors and flavors. At first he thought, "this can't be" and was inclined to run out and act like he had never gone in or seen this. But as he stood there he had a growing curiousity and desire to taste them. He fully expected that each flavor would pale in comparison to his beloved vanilla.
Johnny finally decided to try chocolate, then strawberry, each flavor was indescribably good, all in all he went on to try 10 flavors. Then he got to a very familiar looking ice cream- vanilla. So he sampled it and again thought nothing will ever compare to this. But much to his surprise the vanilla tasted very ordinary. It was so plain and simple. It was no longer appealing to him. At that moment, Johnny decided, "I'll never settle for vanilla ever again".
So is the sheltered life-experience of a born-in JW. Never getting exposed to other "truths" or even allowed to know they even exist. Born-ins are totally satisfied, until they learn of the existence of something else, then my oh my what a wide new world exists and how difficult it is to ever go back.
I know I'll never settle for vanilla ever again.

Crosses, Beards and Wings
by Cold Steel ini've always been fascinated by the pictures in the watchtower.
back in the 70s, i was intrigued by pictures of a beardless jesus hanging on a stake with two theives hanging beside him.
he usually had a full head of hair, but it looked strange for a beardless jesus to be standing in the midst of his disciples, all with beards!

On a lighter note:
The title of this thread "Crosses, Beards, and Wings" could be the name of a Biker restaurant

Great, become a Witness of Jehovah. While you're at it become a Witness of Jesus, just DON"T become a PUBLISHER of the WTBTS!!!
That's the worst move anyone can make, and one has NOTHING to do with the other!

Regarding cross or stake:
If all of a sudden history revealed Jesus was executed on a stake rather than a cross, what would happen? Perhaps people would just switch to a stake around their neck. Whatever!! WTS asks, "If someone dear to you were murdered with a pistol would you wear a pistol around your neck? Would you glorify the means of death?"
That's not what people are doing! Jesus and the prophets made a big deal out of the fact that Jesus would be executed as a common criminal or common man. Whatever the means that Jesus was hung on, the point is he was executed in that manner. It has nothing to do with "glorifying" the means of death. This argument really gets under my skin. The main point is ALWAYS missed!!!
Seriously, what difference does it make?
Even when "in the truth" as an elder and pioneer, I refused to place any significance on stake or cross. I would say it doesn't matter, what matters is he DIED willingly and undeservedly.
