Any funny stories of when a"brother" giving a talk, said something "funny" or "questionable", and didn't even realize it?
by Dunedain inthere were always all types of speakers in the org.
myself, growing up a "witness", must have heard all types of talks, and given by all manner of speakers, especially on sundays, when almost every week we would get a "visiting" brother giving the public talk.. sometimes, you would have a "great" speaker, all fluent and animated.
other times we would get a comical speaker, one who would maybe purposelly get a few laughs outta the audience.

I remember one time a brother giving his first 30min talk repeated the word sex at least five or six times in a row. The theme of the talk wasn't even sex. -

I heard some say that once the child is knowledgeable he is ready for baptism. When Jesus was 12 he could out debate the priests. But he still didn't get baptized till he was 30.
...and he also had a beard

The right to shun - wrong?
by Simon inmany people are understandably upset and angry at the notion that jws have the right to shun people.
it seems such an obvious "no brainer" cruel and inhuman thing to do - it must be wrong ... surely?.
of course we look at things from the perspective of those hurt and harmed by shunning.

Silence after stating my confusion about "144,000"
by tidalblitz inthe other night, i was told about a question that a friend's bible study had asked them.
the bible study asked: "if jesus is perfect, why does he need the 144,000 to help him rule?
" this friend does not know how to answer this question.

by Island Man inwas it designed?.
rabies' purposeful mode of transmissionrabies is caused by a number of lyssaviruses that attack the cells of the nervous system disrupting their normal function.

Well if God doesn't create harmful creatures then God didn't create Satan which begs the question, "where did Satan come from?" -

Were we meant to live forever?
by konceptual99 inso i believed for years that humans will one day revert to being able to live forever.
i was told the only reason we don't already is because adam and eve sinned.. if this is the case then why is nothing else in the universe capable of the same thing.
everything else has a finite lifespan.

What the JWs often forget is that even if Adam and Eve didn't eat from the tree of knowledge they would eventually die unless they eat from the tree of life (Genesis 3 22) -

I was just going to start a topic like this.
The Tongue-Eating Sea Louse: Was It Designed? This sea louse makes it house inside the fish mouth and feeds on the blood from the tongue till the organ withers away. The parasite very cleverly attaches itself to the remaining stump and continues to feed on blood and mucus in the mouth. It may seem as a consolation that the fish can use the louse exactly as its own tongue.
There is a whole series of parasites: http://alltoptens.com/top-ten-incredibly-dangerous-parasites/ -

Gog and/of Magog...
by peacefulpete inhere is a scan of articles from the dictionary of deities and demons in the bible.
it appears
a derivation from sumer-ian gug ('black spot', 'cornelian', or 'shining', depending on the identification of the root) has been proposed (a. van hoon-acker, za 28 [1914] 336), but is highly implausible.

"Ha Satan" means the adversary. Many scholars point out this character in Job is actually very much like a lawyer putting Job on trial.
