"it is not to be presumed that the prince of darkness will suffer the binding influences of the new prince, which are now at work to fetter his power without a struggle.
his rage will spend its force in distressing mankind in various ways, for he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
" 1884wtwr 03 01 07. well, that is as it may be, but we can now say without a doubt that this "short time" which the watchtower taught back in 1884 was nearly over is still 117 years later - taught by the watchtower to be in progress... "all know something of the failure of brother miller's expectations.
Hey Focus,
Good to see you are still here. I was wondering where you have been.
Thanks for taking the time to post this information.
I often wonder if the society sits back and laughs at the trusting rank and file. Or perhaps the society truly believes what it prints. Either way, it's a sobering thought.
If you consciously read these catch phrases over and over, day after day, year after year, you will start to believe it unconsciously. The WT definately has the mind control factor down to a science.
Their shady ways are so easy to see through now, but I remember when I was a witness, I truly wanted to believe that they had the truth. The alternative wasn't something that I was prepared to face. Now that I am out, I sometimes feel disappointed in myself that I was duped for so long.
: Do you get the feeling that the Watchtower attaches the phrase "without a doubt" to claims which it does not have a clue as to how to prove or substantiate?
Without a doubt.

Osarsif,
Thanks for posting those gems of theocraptic advertising.
I remembered quite a few of them. I also recall that they made good fans.
They came in handy because every convention that I ever attended,
the coliseums were hotter than Satan's Speedo.
I used to think that people slept through the afternoon sessions because they were bored. It turns out that most of them had actually died from heat stroke.

if a man knocked on your door and introduced himself as jesus christ son of jehovah, would you ask him in and feed him or would you slam the door in his face and call the cops?.
if your daughter came home pregnant and claimed it was an imaculate conception, would you believe her?.
why do you believe in the other virgin birth?.
O.T.,
First I would look out my peephole (lol) and make sure that it wasn't witnesses on my doorstep.
Once I concluded that it's not a couple of jw's, I would open the door. Judging by my mental picture that I have of Jesus, he looks to me like he'd be a swinging enough fellow.
I'd ask him what was up, and if he told me that he was Jesus the son of Jehovah, yeah I'd have to say I'd slam the door. Unless of course he first offered to turn some water into wine, because I think it would be sweet to get loaded with Jesus.

alright, this is one of those what was your favourite questions:.
when you were a witness (or even if youre still reluctantly attached like me), did you have a favourite kingdom melody (why couldnt they just be called hymns by the way)?.
i remember thinking they were ok as a young child, but that was until i got to secondary school and heard the other kids singing proper hymns in assembly, while i had to stand outside.
I'm with dedalus on this one. I despised the whole lot of that insipid drivel.
However, some of those tone-deaf 'brothers and sisters' were comedic gold. They would get all hopped up on jesus, and really cut loose. I swear some of them forgot that they were in fact NOT Aretha Franklin or one of the Three Tenors. That music would start up, and they would just let 'er rip. It was classic.

p.s. 'He says use the rod?' Yikes. I'm not touching that one.
having been an infrequent visitor at best over the past few weeks, thought i'd write and let you know how i'm doing.. first of all, let me say thank you to all of you who have written to make sure i'm ok.. i was hoping not to develop a pregnancy migraine, but i got it.
i had it for almost a month with eden, and it's going on three weeks now.
i have barely been able to keep up with work.
Lisa,
I'm sorry to hear about your migraines. I have noticed your absence around here, and I was hoping that you were ok. I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better today! Thanks for the 'happy b-day' too. I hope you get to feeling better very soon.

Thank you all for your kind birthday wishes
I know some of you are hiding because you don't want spankings or noogies. Erin, as I recall you have an April b-day also. Don't be shy.
Chuck, Yikes! And also Ouch! I remember those days, although us girls got off easy. The boys were barbaric to eachother, though. I about choked on my coffee when you mentioned the arm punches and Charlie horses. LOL. Ah, memories.

with all the confrontation/negativity on the board these last few weeks, maybe we all need to sit back and have a drink, or a cup of tea or coffee, if alcohol's not for you.. seriously, i'm not trying to pretend that i haven't gotten caught up in the negativity at times, or trivialize important issues/feelings, but things haven't been as fun, lately.
i've noticed a change even in the short time i've been posting.
i didn't start this topic to point fingers or to act like my opinion is somehow special, but wouldn't it be nice for all of us to see an increase in civility?.
Woohoo! Now this is more like it!
Looks like all we needed was a few drinks and some good conversation.
Now we need some music to REALLY get the party going!
Chuck, would you mind doing the honors? After all, you are the resident d.j.
